Feds Supported South Dakota with $2.249 Billion in FY2018

The FY2018 state audit report that the Government Operations and Audit Committee will review at tomorrow’s meeting includes this schedule of expenditures of federal funds in South Dakota. Even under the madness of King Donald, the federal government still manages to keep South Dakota afloat with $2.249 billion of support for public functions:

Schedule of Federal Expenditures in South Dakota FY2018, in Department of Legislative Audit, Single Audit Report for the Year Ended June 30 2018, p. 200.

$754 million for health and human services, $452 million for environmental protection, $357 million from the Department of Education that Mike Rounds has said more than once he’d abolish, $262 million for transportation, $240 million for agriculture… wow! Whether we’re eating, drinking, driving, learning, or breathing, we South Dakotans really depend on the federal government.

Maybe we’ll take more seriously in 2020 whom we elect to lead that federal government instead of voting for an id-reinforcing toddler and hoping all the people around him keep the federal money flowing the way we need.
