Mr. and Mrs. Jensen Both Running in District 33; Scott Switches Races from House to Senate

I don’t know what the story is in District 33, but I’m sure there is one.

Looking just at the Republican side of the ticket, we can see that Rep. Taffy Howard filed her petition to run for reëlection back in January. City councilwoman Amanda Scott filed on January 31. Last week, Rep. David Johnson joined them, triggering a primary.

But then on Friday, Melanie Torno of Somerset filed to run for District 33 House. Four-way primary for House? What fun!

Then things got weird on Monday. District 33 Senator Phil Jensen’s wife Janet filed a petition to run for District 33 House. (Husband and wife serving simultaneously in the Legislature. Don’t we have enough family ties across chambers?) Amanda Scott then withdrew her House petition and filed to run for Senate against Phil Jensen.

One might think that Scott left the House race to make room for Mrs. Jensen… but if she was feeling so courteous, why would she then challenge Mr. Jensen?

Remember, these are all Republicans, so as of right now, both House and Senate in District 33 have a primary.

As of this lunchtime writing, no Dems have poked their heads out of the District 33 holes and seen that it’s springtime. (That’s a metaphor, Dems: file your blooming petitions and run to win!)

Good grief. They think they’re the Romanoffs.

Stay tuned … good Democratic candidates will be duly filed in Dist 33.

    District 33 is a gerrymandered district. And…

It’s not just the low licensing fees that make South Dakota an attractive place to register a vehicle. There’s no state income tax, and there are no state taxes on inheritances or personal property. And unlike other states, South Dakota doesn’t require vehicle inspections or emissions tests. http://rapidcityjournal.com/news/south-dakota-officials-target-vehicle-license-plate-fraud/article_3d0515e8-7d34-11df-b02e-001cc4c002e0.html

These mailbox voters dump thousands of largely republican votes into elections by mail. 58,000 of them. http://rapidcityjournal.com/news/local/out-of-state-vehicles-registered-in-south-dakota/article_3e686788-256a-55c7-9e21-7e8cb0750c80.amp.html

No Cory, the Dems usually can’t stand each other – although I suppose that also describes some married couples.

Get ready for more potty bills if the anti-LGBT Jensen duo both get elected.

I honestly don’t understand how democrats can stand to live in South Dakota anymore. State govt just gets creepily worse year after year.

How boring it would be to live in a functional state. ;-)

As with parent/child duos like the Ottens and Greenfields and the recent Haggars and Novstrups, we should ask whether having such closely related people representing the same districts is a good idea. That affiliation is a step closer than shared party affiliation. A married couple moves in the same circles, goes to the same parties, watches and listens to the same news programs together at home. They bring less diversity of experience and knowledge to the Legislature than even two Republicans who live across the street from each other.

Cory: Consult the RC Journal today. The article states that Jensen’s wife is going to withdraw her name…. I’ll believe that when I see it but that is what the article states. We don’t need another irrational incompetent trying to use the power of government to advance hypocritical morality. The one track mind idealism out here is a mental health issue.

Step up to the plate, Rapid Citians in 33, and smite down the overgodders and stop sending those who are insaner than most to the legislatures. grudznick implores at you from your neighbor district 30 where he is too busy trying get the insanerites out of the legislature or he’d come over there and knock some sense into you fellows, too.

Consider it done grudz!!! Cory: Lilias Jones Jarding just announced her candidacy for the House in District 33. This woman deserves every bit of support anyone can provide… I”ve known and worked with this lady for quite a number of years and you won’t find a more pleasant, intelligent, well reasoned, objective and conscientious person on the planet. This woman thinks before she speaks and she is a politically battle hardened, principled stalwart that will take everyone’s thoughts into consideration on any issue but you can bet that her decisions are going to be made on substance opposed to some screw loose hypothetical. She’s proven over and over that she can work with anybody. Don Pay may know her……… If their is any campaign money open for distribution, send it her way……..

This married couple are crooks. I dealt with them through their Saladmaster company. After falling behind on a few payments they showed up at our house uninvited, made up all kinds of stories on how it was being resolved. Stole the product apparently leaving us responsible for the debt and them keeping it to sell to someone else and make double the profit.
