Brown County Considers Making Money on Courthouse ATM Withdrawals

The Brown County Commission yesterday discussed switching ATM operators to cash in on cash.

According to Elisa Sand, 605 Ventures of Aberdeen is offering to operate the courthouse ATM and give the county a cut of the $3 transaction fee. At current usage rates, the county would get about 50 cents per transaction, or $40 a month. Currently, Spearfish-based Great American Bancservices takes the entire $3 fee on each withdrawal.

Venture 605 salesman J Arlt is working on more local government ATM deals. This summer he secured a deal with the city to put an ATM in the Wylie Park campground lodge, from which the city will get $1 out of every $3 transaction fee, assuming the ATM gets 100 transactions a month.

Meanwhile, we all find more banks and other middlemen finding ways to charge us money to use our money. Plan ahead: stop at the bank before you go pay your speeding ticket!

The only objection I might have to the arrangement is if an open competitive bidding process is not employed in selecting the contractor.

    I don’t see the problem ;-)…
