Democrats, target the new open seat in District 3. Republican Representative Dan Kaiser says three terms in Pierre is enough for him. On this morning’s In Touch program on KABD Radio, Kaiser said he wants to get back to policing all the time and run for sheriff next year.
Kaiser’s announcement turns a little light toward current sheriff and fellow Republican Mark Milbrandt to declare his intentions for 2018. Milbrandt worked as a Brown County jailer back in 1979 before becoming a deputy. Milbrandt has been sheriff since before Kaiser could legally drive and hasn’t faced a challenger since 1998. Since he’s close to retirement age, Sheriff Milbrandt could clear the Republican path for Kaiser to seek work closer to home and maybe even run for Kaiser’s part-time job in the Legislature. But as of this evening, the Aberdeen American News is saying Milbrandt plans to run for re-election.
While the Brown County Republicans sort out their allegiances, Brown County Democrats will have the pleasure of prepping a candidate for another crack at an open House seat.
Will he show up for work, or collect his paycheck and no-show?
Those doing 65 in a 55 on the county oil will hope for the latter.
