Trump Immigration Ban Doesn’t Include Countries 9/11 Attackers Arrived from or Countries Doing Business with Donald

Folks at JFK Airport, in the Twitterverse, and around the world are protesting President Trump’s order banning over 134 million human beings, including 500,000 legal residents, from entering the United States of America, just because he wants his base to think it’s o.k. to hate brown people.

Multiple reasons exist to oppose Trump’s ban on entry to the United States from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, plus refusal of all refugees for 120 days. I spotlight two:

1. An order invoking the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, three times in its Purpose statement does not ban entry from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, or Pakistan, the countries from which all of the September 11 attackers and subsequent radicalized Muslim terrorists entered the United States.

2. Claiming this ban’s purpose is to keep “radical Islamic terrorists” out of our country, Trump did not include the Muslim-majority nations of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, or Saudi Arabia, in all of which Trump “has done business or pursued potential deals.”

This would be hilarious if it weren’t America’s international esteem, moral example, and national security that the President is destroying.

Al Novstrup and other Trumpy yahoos are trying to ban refugees like journalist Rukmini Callimachi from South Dakota. I’ll have more on their uninformed, un-American cowardice in another post.

    And so it begins……..

  2. Darin Larson 2017-01-28 17:20

Trump’s ban is a bone-headed, knee jerk, stir up the base, emotional reaction based on fear. How about a thoughtful, compassionate, long term strategy based upon humanitarian concerns, understanding of Muslims, love for our fellow human beings, and even our own self interest in defeating terrorism?

Trump is now the best recruiter for ISIS on the planet. He has played right into the terrorists hands by making this seem like a fight between Islam and the West and between Christians and Muslims. He is as short sighted as he is ignorant. Now, any unstable individual who was questioning whether America was fighting Islam, and not just terrorists, has an excuse to believe the worst about America.

Since 9/11 we have had much more of a problem with home grown terrorists than any problem with terrorists getting into the US from other countries. The CATO institute published an analysis that an American’s chances of being murdered in a terrorist attack by a refugee is 1 in 3.64 billion per years. After Trump’s idiotic ban and rhetoric against Muslims, I think you would have to conclude that he has increased the chances of a homegrown terrorist attack in the US.

  3. mike from iowa 2017-01-28 17:23

Drumpf sez he will give preference to kristian terrorist immigrants. So now real terrorists have a blue print for fooling the fat fool in the White House.

Drumpf is so dumb it is frightening.

  4. Mark Winegar 2017-01-28 17:27

Is this the United States of America?

  5. jerry 2017-01-28 17:30

The question now upon us is this, what kind of Americans are we? This is not about party followings and the like, this is about all of us who actually believe that this place is worth saving. If we do not have the integrity to take care of our fellows, what is our point? We Americans have fought two overseas world wars, we have battled in Korea, Vietnam, all over the world in the name of democracy and freedom. Has it occurred to our congressional leaders, our civic leaders and our church leaders that we have just taken a turn into dictatorship? I realize the extreme right wing probably thinks this is just fine, but they should know that you reap what you have sown. Tomorrow would be one helluva day to discuss this in an open congregation. BTW, for all of those who may want to adopt children, what ya gonna do when the dictator takes your kid because he came from a funny sounding country’s name and then puts him back on that plane to go back there? That is exactly what is happening right now to folks with dual citizenship. These people are taxpayers that are contributing to this country that has just kicked them in the arse. Is this the kind of country we want to call home?

  6. Darin Larson 2017-01-28 17:43

Trump is also undermining the fight against terrorism around the world by his ban on refugees and the ban on people from the seven countries. As an example, take the case of a person in Iraq or Afghanistan who would be willing to be a translator or risk their lives informing on Al Queda or ISIS or the Taliban. Would you be inclined to do so if there is no option for you to come to the US? You would fear reprisal against yourself and your family. America will one day leave Iraq or Afghanistan, but the fact that you worked with the Americans will be remembered forever.

Our success in combating terrorism in these foreign countries depends almost exclusively on winning hearts and minds and gaining the cooperation of the people in these countries. Trump is undermining these efforts bigly.

  7. Dana P 2017-01-28 17:46

Every single day it is yet one more thing that puts this country in danger.

  8. mike from iowa 2017-01-28 17:56

There is no religious test (supposedly) to hold public office. Can that same thing be said to be true for immigrants? If there was a test that would be establishment of religion, imho, and would be unconstitutional-if we were dealing with rational people, which the wingnuts in the WH ain’t. Impeach them all!

  9. John 2017-01-28 18:00

Yesterday an interpreter for the 101 Airborne Division (Air Assault) was detained at JFK on his way home to Houston. The potus didn’t think this out – as is the case with his other knee-jerk, thoughtless acts. Clearly this exord is unconstitutional since congress decided long ago that the US cannot use religion, nationality, nation or origin, etc., to automatically bar entry.

  12. mike from iowa 2017-01-28 18:16

Not a single Muslim extremist from any of the seven designated countries has ever committed an act of terrorism on American soil.

But residents of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, and other US “allies” are exempt, even though their citizens have committed acts of terrorism here. By coincidence, these are also countries where Trump has commercial interests.

The executive order mis-cites the relevant immigration statute. Ed Whelan wonders if this means the Office of Legal Counsel is out of the loop:

  13. jerry 2017-01-28 18:24

It is not going to get any better either. We have no leadership from either party, just following orders. Kind of the same type of orders that our daddy’s and granddaddy’s heard another tin horn give in the 30’s in Germany. Then it was Jews, today Muslims, tomorrow Catholics then darkness.

  14. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 18:43

    Canada wants them, problem solved.

  15. Roger Cornelius 2017-01-28 18:52

Protests have broken out at JFK International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare and will soon spread to other cities across the U.S.
The protests will certainly breakout in the countries affected by this bastard of a president.
Iran has retaliated by issuing their own ban against Americans traveling to their country.
Tonight we have protests in the street, tomorrow we will like have violence around the world as ISIS smiles and says this is our reason to hate America more.
Like it has been mentioned here, Trump has put America in peril.

  16. mike from iowa 2017-01-28 18:53

    Greg Diplorable-No.

  17. Roger Cornelius 2017-01-28 18:53

  20. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 19:17

It was one of his major campaign points and he won. Enough said.

  21. Darin Larson 2017-01-28 19:23

Greg, it was a stupid idea when he campaigned on it and it is a stupid idea now. Even your other Republican leaders said so. Enough said.

  22. Porter Lansing 2017-01-28 19:24

Enough said? Does that mean you’re gonna stop defending President Trump? Don’t do that, man! You’re starting to get your feet in the stirrups.

  23. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 19:39

ALL immigration has been suspended in the past. Quit acting like this is something new.

  24. Jerry Sweeney 2017-01-28 19:39

I hold no brief for the 45th President of the United States. He is unqualified to exercise the duties of the office he now holds. That said, headline or no, he is entitled to be addressed as Mr. Trump, or President Trump, not by his given name alone.

  25. jerry 2017-01-28 19:42

Ruh oh, bough is starting to break deplorable. You all put this country in peril indeed and now, sensible republicans are biting the tin horn dictator on his backside. Don’t worry, Thune, NOem and the EB5 crook don’t have the stones to do anything but watch it all go by. I think the twit will get on the twitter again. Someone needs to drug test him.

  26. Roger Cornelius 2017-01-28 19:52

    Jerry,
Trump is entitled to nothing, I address him as Trump only because that is the nicest title I can use without getting censored by Cory.

  27. Darin Larson 2017-01-28 19:53

Ya Greg, we used to have slavery and rounded up Japanese Americans in internment camps and discriminated against Asians and Chinese immigrants. We’ve been here before. I just thought we had learned more from our history. Well, I think some of us did. But as the saying goes, those who don’t know history are condemned to repeat its mistakes.

  28. mtr 2017-01-28 20:06

The dominoes are starting to fall. The narrative of refugees=terrorism will be difficult to unwind. What will happen when other countries (like Iran) begin retaliating against Americans? I’d surmise that within the next 72 hours something will happen in a Muslim country against Americans that will justify broader retaliatory action. And people will approve the chaos cheerfully.

  29. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 20:07

Obama, G.W. Bush, Clinton, H.W. Bush, Reagan, Carter have all acted under Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952.

And from 1924 to 1965 there hardly was any immigration because of quotas put on.

  30. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 20:12

For all the tears being shed; history, facts, the election and law are not on your side. Deal with it.

  31. Darin Larson 2017-01-28 20:18

Greg, why are Republican members of Congress coming out against Trump’s actions? Even Tea Party Republicans are coming out against Trump’s insanity.

  32. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 20:21

A bunch of them were against his position in the primary and they lost.

  33. jerry 2017-01-28 20:25

Deplorable, all of these presidents did not ever endanger, nor did they disrespect green card carrying taxpayers like punkin head has done. As reported, an American soldier, back from some crap hole in Afghanistan, detained as if he were yesterday’s trash. An American fighting man detained, by an order from a man that is clearly deranged, just does not stand.

  34. Darin Larson 2017-01-28 20:25

OK, avoid the question then. Sitting Republican Senators and Representatives have come out against Trump’s ban.

  35. jerry 2017-01-28 20:33

Federal judge just kicked the door down on punkin heads plans. Immigrants stay. Time to repeal punkin head.

  36. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 20:34

Its pretty cut and dried Darin. Most of the Republicans against it are doing it for a couple reasons: 1) attention seekers (McCain), or 2) they are afraid of being labeled racist by the media, or 3) have an axe to grind with Trump (Graham, Sasse).

  37. mtr 2017-01-28 20:48

Federal judge granted an emergency stay. Let the activist judiciary tweets begin in 3…2…1…

  38. Porter Lansing 2017-01-28 20:56

OK. Somebody start a list of all the times Greg Deplorable has egg on his face for defending something a judge shuts down, during President Trump’s first term. Or anytime he looks like a horse’s ass for defending the President.
    That’s one.

  39. jerry 2017-01-28 20:59

Deplorable cannot help himself, he is who he is and not much at that. Go on now Deplorable, get yourself ready to sit in the amen corner tomorow and lie to yourself on what a stellar feller you are.

  40. jerry 2017-01-28 21:03

South Dakota used to have a governor that had something to say to punkin head, where the hell is that guy? Seems like he is looking at his two year stretch and will want to further his pocket earnings after that.

Speaking of two years, anyone have any idea that mid terms are coming?

  41. Porter Lansing 2017-01-28 21:17

It’s ok, Jerry. He can always say that this stay is only for those in current transit and no other’s from those countries will depart their country to USA. That’s what President Trump wants and that’s what’ll happen. Elections have consequences.
Greg, I wasn’t putting you down, man. It takes a while to learn to play defense and not over react when the left gets agitated. You’ve got all the cards. No need to make a hasty play.

  42. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 21:24

No offense taken, not too worried here. It will all sort itself out.

  43. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2017-01-28 21:48

“all sort itself out”—that sounds like how Trump is governing: just burping up orders from his gut and hoping someone else will clean up the mess.

GredDep, you miss the fourth explanation for why Republicans would oppose: like McCain, they are decent patriots who recognize that America’s best interest is to act like America.

But which your three categories—attention seeker, pansy, or axe-grinder—did Mike Pence fall into in 2015 when he said a Muslim ban was “offensive and unconstitutional“?

  44. Darin Larson 2017-01-28 21:55

Pence was in the 4) category: momentarily honest

  45. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 22:07

Does it surprise anyone that a ’15 Obama appointee put a stay on portions of the order? That is the only card to play. Whether Trump now goes down the Obama path and defies a federal judge’s ruling is another story. It will be interesting.

  46. Roger Cornelius 2017-01-28 22:15

“It will all sort itself out”, but at what costs? It is already a huge monetary cost to those being detained at the airports, not say anything about those family members separated from each other by six feet retainers.
This Muslim ban is already being played out like an American Horror Story for those snared in the trap of Trump’s racism.
I’m waiting for tomorrow when we see the full international reaction to Trump’s idiocy, it could get dangerous real fast.

  47. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-28 22:23

Count your lucky stars you are here, there are so many reasons in sect. 212 to deny entry that I’m not so sure all of you would’ve made it!

jerry might not have made the cut….

(II) to have had a physical or mental disorder and a history of behavior
associated with the disorder, which behavior has posed a threat to the property,
safety, or welfare of the alien or others and which behavior is likely to recur
or to lead to other harmful behavior, or

  48. Roger Cornelius 2017-01-28 22:29

By that criteria Deplorable, you should be one of the first to be deported.

  49. Darin Larson 2017-01-28 22:31

I thought they should have gone to a judge with a Middle Eastern sounding name. Trump would’ve fire off some racist tweets enraging everyone and we could get the impeachment train rolling.

  50. Chip 2017-01-29 00:58

Sorry Mr. Deplorable, but your understanding as to the extent of the use of section 212 by previous administrations leaves a bit to be desired. We’re really talking about something comparable to the difference between using a scalpel and a chainsaw for a delicate surgery.

Even this pathetic excuse for a comparison leaves it’s own argument (and yours) invalid:

    https://www.google.com/amp/amp.dailycaller.com/2016/06/16/the-past-six-presidents-have-all-used-executive-power-to-block-certain-classes-of-immigrants/?client=ms-android-verizon

Previous invocation of this law has been done with intention, in a prescribed manner, unlike the PGiG* who has absolutely no plan here what so ever.

From 1924 to 1965, although it was a much more blanketed method, more along the lines of Orange Hitler, there was still a process. Also post war we saw a huge influx of refugee immigrants. You may want to read up on this a bit.

  51. Jon Holmdal 2017-01-29 02:44

  54. mike from iowa 2017-01-29 07:15

Wingnuts voted to cut embassy security by 50%. Benghazi!!!!

  55. OldSarg 2017-01-29 08:22

“Trump is now the best recruiter for ISIS on the planet.” Folks, they already hate you. They have already expressed their desire to butcher you. The travel ban is for just 90 days.

Here is the problem with your view of those from islamic countries: You “think” they think as you, have the same values as you, have the same culture as you. You are wrong. Women are slaves and cattle, children are used as sex toys, homosexuality is rampant but if publicly exposed warrants killing. These are the “values and morality” of the middle east. Do you understand why Bergdahl had his head shaved? By the way, it wasn’t just his head but his whole body. He was shave to resemble a bacha baizi. He was used as a sex toy.

As far as ISIS goes, ISIS was created by the Obama administration as a created state to fill the gap Obama left in Iraq when he prematurely pulled out our soldiers. Why do you think we were in Benghazi? Benghazi was a site used to train, supply and arm ISIS soldiers to fight in Syria. Turkey played the same role. Do you honestly think those hundreds of oil tankers traveling between Iraq and Turkey, used to provide funds for ISIS somehow snuck under our observance? Stop playing the fool.

  56. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2017-01-29 08:56

OldSarg: your use of “they” is your error.

ISIS hates us, you bet. Trump’s immigration ban has no impact on the beliefs of ISIS members. “They” cannot be won over; “they” can only be beaten.

However, large majorities of Muslims in Muslim countries do not support ISIS or the use of violence against civilians. “They” are our best bulwark against ISIS recruitment. When we treat “them” all as the enemy, we reduce “their” resistance to radicalism. “They” may not all look at Trump’s ban and say, “That’s it, I’m joining ISIS!” But “they” may let more radical comments from their friends and family slide. “They” may shrug when radical leaders say “their” country should not cooperate with U.S. anti-terrorism efforts.

Trump’s ban needlessly sacrifices global goodwill and strengthens ISIS.

  57. barry freed 2017-01-29 08:57

If one doesn’t feel like protesting, they should remember that trump said on the campaign trail: natural born Americans should face losing Citizenship for doing things of which he disapproves.

Seemed far fetched then, now, not so much.

  58. OldSarg 2017-01-29 09:12

It’s the law. Trump is following the law. . .

8 U.S. Code § 1182 – Inadmissible aliens: (f) Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.

  59. Chip 2017-01-29 10:09

Whell OldSarg, the President is also allowed to fire nukes. Do you think he should fire nukes at ISIS, just because he can??

  60. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-29 10:14

Adults are in charge now. The steady stream of un-vetted refugees even alarmed then CIA director Brennan.

The bottom line of this whole un-fettered immigration to the US is a Soros funded move to destabilize Western & Eastern democracies with another Arab spring. His own leaked memos even said as much, that these new normals & destabilization provided new opportunities for global influence to his organization and donors.

By all means lets have an immigration process, but we have existing laws that should be followed for the safety of the people already living here. Whats wrong with having rules and following them?

  61. Nick Nemec 2017-01-29 10:26

Paranoia runs deep, into your life it will creep, it starts when you’re always afraid.

  62. jerry 2017-01-29 10:38

Yep, we need to declare war then. That is why those laws were put on the books in the first place. I think there are still some laws allowing sex with your dog as well, but I digress. Yes, have congress declare war on the Muslims and bring it.

  63. jerry 2017-01-29 10:41

We need to start the draft for this war, immediately. We still have the draft registration. Talk about a jobs program, damn straight. We will be able to put millions of men and women into uniforms made right here in the heartland.

  64. jerry 2017-01-29 10:44

Send our young men and women to Syria for starters. Nothing says picking sides like that. All to hold Russian and Iranian positions for sea access. Of course, we taxpayers will need to step up to fund all of this, no problem as Old Sarge will lead the way, storm trooper that he is of course. Deplorable will just have to learn the trade of soldering from his new mentor.

  65. mike from iowa 2017-01-29 10:47

For what it is worth, Nick, be it Buffalo or Springfield or a combination of both.

No Syrian refugees- those that are excessively vetted for up to two years have committed any acts of terrorism in America-ever. Many (15 of 19 9-11 hijackers) from Saudi Arabia-where Drumpf has business dealings did commit acts of terrorism inside the United States, but aren’t being kept out.

Obama and aids spent up to a week at a time perusing and studying legalities and other considerations of EO. Drumpf apparentlu is not having these EO vetted through legal channels.

  66. mike from iowa 2017-01-29 10:50

Here is the problem with your view of those from islamic countries: You “think” they think as you, have the same values as you, have the same culture as you. You are wrong. 67. mike from iowa 2017-01-29 11:21

The truth behind Drumpf’s claim of a yooge standing ovation at CIA HDQ- THE FACTS: Trump never told the CIA officers to sit at the beginning of his speech, and it’s standard protocol without a directive from the president, they wouldn’t have sat down, as Huffington Post’s S.V. Date explains.

What an insane freaking maroon wingnuts and the FBI and the Russians foisted on America.

  72. Greg Deplorable 2017-01-30 10:00

So much for O Canada fostering good will and not making the terrorists mad.

Mr Soros added. “Our plan treats the protection of refugees as the objective and national borders as the obstacle.”

  73. jerry 2017-01-30 10:19

Canada fosters good will indeed. We know nothing about the shooters and where they came from, do you Deplorable?

Deplorable is an equal opportunity Klansman, hates Jews and Muslims with equal repulsiveness. I imagine Mormons and Catholics will soon be on your spit of hate if they are not already. Thanks for showing your arse.

  74. Dicta 2017-01-30 10:27

Whether or not the shooters are muslims is besides the point. Numerous intelligence experts have been saying for a while that ISIS and Al-Qaeda seeks to weave mistrust between muslim and non-muslim populations because it feeds into the us vs. them mentality and increases their influence. Complete neanderthals like Greg are unable to accept this because feels are more important than reals, and anecdotes trump data.

  75. Mike Boswell 2017-01-30 23:29

No matter what your opinions are Trump has the law on his side.

“Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate. ” https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1182

    Great close, Mr. Boswell

  77. bearcreekbat 2017-01-31 17:14

We keep hearing about Trump having a personality disorder and that he is a narcissist. I wonder why no one seems to address the evidence of another interesting personality characteristic – Trump acts like a coward.

He plays a strong leader but in reality his executive orders seem to show that he fears refugees, including women and children. He fears Mexicans. He fears immigrants. He fears that our Nation’s law enforcement and military cannot protect him if he allows his bogeymen to enter the Country. He acts like a man who would be too afraid to stop to help an injured child on the street. He is behaving like one cowardly fellow.

I wonder how Trump might react if the media publicly called out Trump’s ban and other acts as evidence of a frightened coward. He does express a bit of worry about his image (crowd sizes and all), which shows he also is frightened that he will look bad.

Drumpf is also afraid of germs and stairs.

Drumpf claims his ban is like Obama’s in 2011. Obama didn’t ban anyone and his re-vetting of 58000 people was in response to a specific act where two men who had made bombs in Iraq had gotten visas.

Drumpf’s reaction is knee jerk. There was no real need for this. His EOs do not get vetted as per protocol apparently because his inner circle is afraid of leaks. I can’t say he has the law on his side when several judges have put stays on his EO. Now it is a matter for the courts to sort out. Of course if Drumpf and wingnuts stack the fed judiciary as they plan then all laws are moot. This past congress had the distinction of confirming the fewest judges since 1952, if memory serves.

mfi, good point. And a subset of the germ phobia, or maybe even a standing alone phobia, is his “personal Vietnam” STD phobia that he described on the Howard Stern show.

His behavior suggests he is either a bald faced coward or in serious need of psychiatric care.

    Bear,
I can’t help but link Trump’s cowardice to his being a habitual liar. Cowards often lie to protect themselves and to give them cover.
Why Trump’s obvious mental health problems aren’t being headlined in the national media is as puzzling why the media doesn’t openly call Trump a liar when they know the facts aren’t consistent with his comments.
Instead the media says his lies are misrepresentative or misleading.

Good point Roger. When someone fears the truth he will often lie to try to cover the truth up.

    Deplorable-
Turns out the shooter is a white Trump supporter. Go figure.

Diplorable-since 1975 not a single American has been killed by a terrorist from any of the 7 banned countries. However terrorist Saudis, Egyptians and couple other countries where Drumpf has businesses have murdered well over 3000 Americans.

Drumpf is just like dumbass dubya. The terrorists come from country X the thing to do is attack country Y.
