Brown County GOP Already Discounting Trump

I mentioned the opposite placement of the Trump and Reagan cut-outs at the Brown County Republicans’ booth at our county fair. Here’s the Reagan side:

If I were a Republican, I’d say I want my signs right where John Thune’s are. And if I were Shantel Krebs, I’d be dropping by and telling management to get my sign out from behind that Trump-Pence slogan and staple it to Reagan’s lapels.

Saint Ronnie’s steady gaze must be reminding the party faithful of better days and discouraging interest in Trump swag. The Brown County Republicans were asking $20 for their cheap garbage-bag Trump-Pence signs.

They’ve scratched that with a 50% discount, and we still have the three biggest days of the fair to go. Expect them to paper over that dollar-ask completely by Saturday lunch.

The Brown County Republicans are also auctioning off Trump caps. Bidding is less than torrid:

Visitors don’t have to pay anything to enter the drawing for farm/hunting caps signed by Rep. Kristi Noem and a basketball signed by Senator John Thune.

Thune ball, Noem caps
The perfect emblems of symbolism over substance from do-nothing Congress critters whose job is to win elections through image, not enact effective legislation. Brown County Fair, 2016.08.18.

Heck, I’d settle for one good signed piece of farm legislation.

Better check that Trump hat to see if it has a Made in China label. Check the hats Noem signed while you’re at it.

OldGuy, when I’m at the booth, I’m campaigning, not taking pictures… but I’ll get one of my colleagues to snap a shot of our lovely front porch.

I wonder why the Repubs are featuring a Jackley campaign sign. He’s not on the ballot and is term-limited as AG. Weird, huh?

That Thune basketball is absolutely incredible. It is if they are taunting us with the reality that many of us have claimed multiple times on this blog site and others about the Republican party’s continual and increasingly dependent need and wish to express and practice image over substance.

Many years ago, the late great Senator Eugene McCarthy of Minnesota claimed that the US Senate was becoming merely a place for former astronauts, former professional basketball players, and the children of family trusts.

Although, technically never a professional basketball player, even so, the promotion of the Thune image through a basketball with a Sharpie in hand speaks loudly of the concerns Eugene McCarthy expressed many years ago and of what has unfortunately become the new norm in American politics today and especially in South Dakota, I am afraid.

On another note, apparently you can have your picture taken with the Trump cut-out at the Republican booth at the Brown County Fair, I am assuming. My only question is…. Are they also handing out fake (In more ways than one) Trump University diplomas to interested parties when they wish to have their picture taken with the Trump cut-out?

And let me also get this right, are you telling me that the Trump cut-out is near an eagle’s nest? If my memory serves me right, another political leader of the western world once attached themselves to an Eagle’s Nest, too…. ;-)

The SDGOP needs to build a wall around the Trump booth and make the Brown County republicans pay for it.

Mr. Curt, the same is true for that Barnett fellow. His pa is in the firm of Siegel, Barnett and Schultz. Remember them?

Curt, they have the whole herd up there—Jackley, Krebs, Sattgast. It’s maybe not a bad decoration choice, reminding voters of all of the party’s electoral successes. But I would respect a Republican who said, “I won’t have my name in the same booth as Trump.” I’d want Roger’s wall!

I assumed the others (Barnett, Sattgast, et. al.) would probably plan to play the musical chairs game once they reach max terms. Krebs won’t need to play that game in ’18 since this is just her 1st term, but it’s hard to imagine JackBoots settling for a mere constitutional office.

The GOP might be discounting or giving up on Trump, but Trump is not giving up on being president. His brilliant new campaign team has him reaching out to African-Americans with the compelling argument: “What the hell do you have to lose?”

Oh, I don’t know, Donald. People might be worried about Life, Liberty, and Happiness if you were elected. Or maybe they don’t want this:

I will give the democrats some credit on their booth. I am glad to see that they have something to spend their money on since that cannot recruit candidates worth a hoot….

    :)

DR, thank you. Our chair and her husband have done a fine job putting together a sturdy and reusable booth (ah, recycling!). We candidates are working hard to live up to her example. :-)

I guess I have a questions as far as campaign finance. Who paid for the materials to build your front porch? I have looked in the reports and there is nothing reported.

Who paid for your Trump and Reagan cut-outs? Are they itemized?
