Biden Makes Dog Joke, Says Economy in Good Shape But Needs More Competition

President Joe Biden demonstrates his plain decency and humanity by joking with a Republican who rises to ask him a question at last night’s live town hall in Ohio:

Not an insult or a cheap shot, just a friendly rib with a fellow dog lover. Hail to this Chief.

Danielle Lippi asked President Biden, “Are you concerned about the higher inflation prices, especially as we see gasoline, automotive, and food prices increase rapidly? What is your administration doing to help prevent the economy from overheating, such as the poor and middle class are not hurt by the higher prices of goods in the long run?” President Biden responded thus:

First of all, the good news is the economy is picking up significantly. It’s rational, when you think about it, the cost of an automobile is kind of back to what it was before the pandemic. We compare what the prices were for the last year in the pandemic and they are up. They’re up because, in fact, there was not much call for.

For example, automobiles. You know, you had the rental car companies selling off their entire stock. You found yourself in the same way with automobile dealers. And all of a sudden, now it’s coming back.

We’re going to grow at 7 percent, it’s expected. We created more jobs in the first six months of my—our administration than any time in American history. No president has ever—no administration has ever created as many jobs.

And all of a sudden, people are saying—

[APPLAUSE]

No, I don’t say it—but it goes to the legitimate question being asked about the concern about inflation. The vast majority of the experts, including Wall Street, are suggesting that it’s highly unlikely that it’s going to be long-term inflation that’s going to get out of hand. There will be near-term inflation, because everything is now trying to be picked back up.

And by the way, that’s one of the reasons why I also signed an executive order dealing with the whole idea of competition. You know, the idea that we’re in a situation where there are so many companies who are keeping people out of the competition.

For example, you have over 600,000 people out there signing—6 million people signing—I better check the number—signing non-compete agreements, not because they have any—any secret, but because they will work for one fast food restaurant and they’re told they can’t get 10 cents more going across town going to the other fast food restaurant. Why? To keep wages down.

And so what’s happening now is all of a sudden people are having choices. You know, I always thought the free market system was not only that there’s competition among companies, but guess what? Companies should have to compete for workers. Guess what? Maybe they’ll pay more money [President Joe Biden, televised town hall, Mount St. Joseph University, Delhi Township, Ohio, transcribed by Cincinnati Enquirer, 2021.07.21].

Decent, funny, well-informed, and sympathetic to workers and competition in a truly free market—Joe Biden is a heck of a President.

And after the town hall, on the tarmac, catching the late flight back to the Capitol, President Biden thanks conservatives and Fox commentators for their apparent “epiphany” on our safe and life-saving coronavirus vaccines:

Even after a hard day’s work, President Biden doesn’t sound sleepy.

Yes Joe, let the job market take care of itself. Someone told me they were earning almost $13 at our fast food restaurant. Our economy is still here, we have to remember we’ve printed trillions of dollars which is the old definition of inflation, it has devalued the money supply but things didn’t collapse, so lets be thankful for that. We have a much, much better president, one who is sane and knows how to compromise (the other one’s name feels like a stab wound) but I fear we are going to have more civil unrest ahead of us. The cost of housing is way up, building materials are coming down now, but the last building lot on Pelican Point Road at Lake Herman is listed at $300,000. The cabin there has flooded three times and must be removed, but as a barometer, it magnifies the cost of housing even in our small towns has escalated. Food is high. A combo meal is $9 that used to be $6. An entree at our Mexican restaurant is over $13 that use to be $9, but we’ve made it through thus far and the worst might be behind us knock wood. I think it’s fair to criticize Biden (and Merkel) for allowing the pharmaceutical companies to have a monopoly on the vaccine. The rest of the world is still suffering that’s just not right, a crime against humanity for the sake of profits we must have the right blend of government regulation. Biden is the moderate I hoped for and he’s doing a pretty darn good job in the face of extreme challenges with no help from the Republicans how Mitch McConnell is able to look at himself in the mirror is a mystery maybe he doesn’t cause he looks so these scrum bums should be worried about how history will judge them.

Im so happy with the current presidency though not even being a politician myself but something has improved. In spite of ongoing problems we are focusing on dealing with issues. We must realize our president needs All of us to make America work and thrive.

  4. Well happy, the pubs still might cause the economy to crash, there’s always hope.

Seriously, how bad was drumpf’s economic performance? Pretty damn bad!

Across Trump’s four years in office, the nation recorded its lowest overall rate of GDP growth — at 1.6 percent — since President Herbert Hoover’s administration during the Great Depression, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

He had it all from the start and then golfed it away. That is bad.
