Noem Back on De-Fence, Will Spend Secret Cash to Barricade Governor’s Mansion

So that’s what she’s saving those coronavirus dollars for….

Governor Kristi Noem won’t wear a mask, but she will spend our tax dollars and donations to build a fence around her mansion… and she won’t tell us how much she’s spending:

A $400,000 project was proposed last year and Stanley Design Group, a contractor from Rapid City, was paid $35,545.25 for the plan.

Seidel said Wednesday that plan would be used.

She confirmed that a private fundraising has been under way, in addition to the federal security-grant, but said the amounts and sources wouldn’t be publicly released.

“There isn’t a target,” Seidel said [Bob Mercer, “Security Fence Will Be Built Around S.D. Governor’s Residence,” KELO-TV, 2020.08.12].

What? I thought Kristi said she trusts her people. Walling yourself off from your constituents doesn’t exactly shout trust.

"Let me ride through the wide open country that I love..." representation of fence Kristi Noem wants to build around Governor's mansion.
The fence is back!

Plus, Noem discourages South Dakotans from taking far cheaper and more effective actions to protect themselves from far more clear and present threats to their health and well-being than any marauding Pierre hooligans have ever posed to occupants of the Governor’s house.

Noem tried to fence in the Governor’s mansion last year but backed down after significant public criticism of her plan and its $400K price tag. She must figure that, with so much other news going, she can slip the project by us if she just keeps the price tag quiet.

Fine…… as long as there is no gate. And include electronic jamming too.

  2. chris 2020-08-12 13:46

Lol, leave some room for a classy helipad.

  3. DaveFN 2020-08-12 14:34

Her underlying paranoia surfaces. Fits the pattern of the freedom-spouting, conspiracy minded to a t.

  4. Loren 2020-08-12 14:37

Donnie do, Kristi do! Just like the Big Guy. Pander, pander, pander. Watch for another trip to D.C. to reassure Pense she really, really isn’t trying to replace him on the ticket. She is just kissing Trump’s (ring) as a sign of respect.

  5. jerry 2020-08-12 15:45

Is this in Castlewood or Pierre? Where does Tinker Belle GNOem and Bry Bry actually live? Would it be cheaper just to put her snipers on the roof?

  6. Jenny 2020-08-12 17:10

Kristi likes Spending The people’s money on herself. With all that Missouri River water Around Pierre Her Royal highness should just hire some local redneck peasants and have a moat built and stocked with pretty goldfish and some waterfalls. Come on Kristi you can do it on the cheap. South Dakotans will work for nothing almost.

  7. Scott 2020-08-12 17:57

Kristie has become an EXTREMIST Right Wing Trump blind follower. She should reverse course and be a moderate, like most of us South Dakotans are.

If she feels threatened, it is because she has gone off the right end of the political spectrum.

Noem is trying to blame people who disagree with her stance on masks and coronavirus for the need for a security fence:

Ian Fury is a spokesperson with the governor’s office. He says it’s no secret some people have taken issue with the governor’s responses to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It only takes one individual taking that level of disagreement to the next level of violence. In America, obviously, we debate topics, we don’t turn to violence. It only takes one, and the governor’s security team has seen such threats and is recommending we put a fence up around the residence in order to deter that” [Lee Strubinger, “Governor’s Office to Build Security Fence Around Mansion by Fall,” SDPB, 2020.08.12].

Umm… Kristi? It only takes one knucklehead not wearing a mask to spread the coronavirus, but you aren’t doing jack about that.

  9. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2020-08-12 18:20

So, yes, if you don’t agree with Kristi, she will take it as a personal threat and build a fence to protect herself from that disagreement.

Make sure to lean the razor wire in at the top of the fence. Noem Nothing has a high opinion if herself if she thinks someone would threaten her. And fences, with/without rzor wire can neither stop ingress or egress of viral pandemics, which should be her one and only focus, but isn’t.

  11. Caleb 2020-08-12 18:58

The absence of any threat specifics disturbs me, because I can imagine a hypothetical situation in which the threat is a boogeyman to justify fortifying state armaments as we drive further toward a totality under the top wealth owners, kind of like the many border walls popping up around the world and coinciding surveillance tools of mass control in both public and work spaces. How can we trust any real threat exists, or that it is indeed substantial and compelling, when we’re told essentially nothing about it? Such opacity hinders my trust.

  12. grudznick 2020-08-12 19:07

The militant Antifa is massing. This is probably really no different than setting up a covid checkpoint roadblock to make sure all picnic goers have been screened.

Or, perhaps it’s a shiny object to keep people focused and drooling about this fence, when there’s really something else insidious going on that you are distracted from. I’m hoping for the later.

  13. Dale Christensen 2020-08-12 19:20

Should have another Fox News Recording Studio as well as fence at Mansion

  14. Jenny 2020-08-12 19:33

This is just classic narcissism. It’s all about the narcissist and What Kristi is doing a symptom of her condition. A sense of entitlement and a grandiose sense of self importance and spending tax payer money without guilt or shame.

  15. jerry 2020-08-12 19:46

Guess she will have those snipers after all as there will be a manned guard tower. Gwaad, what a peanut head ol’ Tinker Belle GNOem is. Her Lird must have told her that she is on her own.

Will the next governor wall Pierre itself? Maybe put a moat across the big MO. Build that wall..Lock her up! I like that one better.

Maybe Mexico can pay for it

  18. grudznick 2020-08-12 20:29

A manned guard tower? That’s awesome. About time people start taking some of the dangers of the criminals seriously.

  19. Bob Newland 2020-08-12 20:58

Ian Fury? You’re kidding. I’d prefer Ethan Disgruntlement.

  20. Debbo 2020-08-12 21:14

As Loren said, “Donnie do, Kristi do! . . . Pander, pander, pander.” I try not to think about what sort of acts she might perform to please Demented Donny.

Wilful disregard of the state’s genuine needs to focus on her wants. Shamelessness is still not a virtue.

  21. T 2020-08-12 23:34

    Please
Explain to me how this can be kept private when she holds a public office

  22. kj trailer trash 2020-08-12 23:37

Scott is correct about Noem turning into a Trumpian extremist. Lock, stock and barrel.

  23. jerry 2020-08-13 08:37

South Dakota State Police will have to man the guard towers at Fort Tinker Belle so that means more workers on the public payroll. I calculate at least 20 more State Police will need to be hired to keep the Visigoth’s in check. (I would rather see doctor’s and healthcare providers in general, but that’s just me, or teachers…).

Doing the math for 20 more with families at $55,110.00 would be $1,102.200 for their salaries. Add to that their family healthcare coverage of $3,000.00 per month and that would be another $720.000.00 and then the incidentals like uniforms, machine guns, tanks and mortars…We, the taxpayers, are gonna have to foot that year in and year out to the tune of a bare minimum of $3,000,000.00 per year of an unfunded mandate.

  24. mike from iowa 2020-08-13 08:58

CBS picked up the fence story. I will not endanger your lives by linking to it. Noem Nothing spokesperson says Noem has used a hands-off approach to handling the pandemic. Fondling it might be more appropriate way to explain her approach.

Noem basically massages and then gives the virus every conceivable
favorable condition to flourish and spread. She and drumpf deserve to get dumped in November.

  25. Donald Pay 2020-08-13 11:13

I understand her fear. She’s been criminally negligent with the lives of people in your state. Someone might just take matters into their own hands and seek revenge for a family member’s death. That it absolutely understandable, and predictable. We provide little justice for the crooks holding office. The fence is really a prison she made for herself.

  26. David Swanson 2020-08-13 11:58

Years ago I was renovating a property owned by a large insurance company and towards the end of the 6 month job they decided on mass layoffs. So one Friday night we had a large crew go into the executive offices and replace the interior and exterior windows with bullet proof glass and reinforce the walls and ceilings to be sure no desperate employees could get at management. The employees just went home on Monday when they were let go. The evil imagined was only in the minds of the douche bags in the bunker it turned out. I suspect that some terrible thing is being planned for the citizenry that they are afraid will provoke retaliation.

  27. DaveFN 2020-08-13 13:39

“There’s no governor in America that has trusted their people to make the right choices more than I have,” she has said.

    Unfolding martyr complex?

  28. Bruce 2020-08-13 13:42

    Will there be a bunker?

  29. Eve Fisher 2020-08-13 13:48

Kristi Noem, who repeatedly says, “we trust our people to exercise their Freedom and personal responsibility to make wise decisions” doesn’t trust the people enough to continue to have an unfenced Governor’s mansion. Interesting.
    I smell bone spurs.

  30. Jake 2020-08-13 14:09

That SD taxpayers had to pay for a 4 ft replica of Mt Rushmore with Trumps likeness imposed on it (sorta reminds me of a biblical “Golden Calf) and now she wants to fence herself in is revolting as a taxpayer. What’s next-a Secret Service of her own? Be wary, SD GOP!! When you voted for her did you foresee her taking a midnight joy ride with him on our Air Force One? What happened to the SD Values? Trust in elected officials? CAN they be trusted?!

  31. Bruce 2020-08-13 14:56

Somewhere there must be a picture of said replica, and was it by chance made of butter?

  32. Loren 2020-08-13 15:29

Really makes it sounds like she is copying the Tangerine Terrorist in D.C. If congress won’t give you your wall, declare an “emergency” and start putting money where you want it. An “emergency” is your get-you-what-you-want card. Play it often.

  33. Donald Pay 2020-08-13 15:56

I think she’s being rational about her own culpability, and the likelihood someone will gun her down for her negligence. When someone designs policy with the likely outcome that those policies murder people, and there is really no way to hold that person responsible under the law, people will find an extralegal way to mete out justice.

  34. DaveFN 2020-08-13 16:00

Connecting the dots since that’s all we have. Is she making some hare-brained connection between law enforcement, the Department of Public Safety, and her fence in order to fund the latter with federal COVID relief monies?

All this fear pushing by the Republicans is getting through to her. Former political advisor to Trump and now her advisor, Corey Lewandowski, told her this needs to be done since the White House recently installed a taller fence. What are they planning that they know will put people in the “Storm the Bastille mood?”

  36. jerry 2020-08-13 18:40

Fort Tinker Belle will have to have a heliport for a fast getaway so she and Lew and Owski can all get out of there in the case of the Visigoth’s swimming the Mighty Mo to lay siege. It’s only property tax money they will be using, not like real money and at $3,000,000 a year, who will notice it? Still won’t protect her from the trump virus though…build a taller fence that will catch the wind like her sugar daddy trump has on the Mexican border.

  37. Debbo 2020-08-13 20:20

Mary D, “What are they planning that they know will put people in the ‘Storm the Bastille mood?’ ”

I think it’s going to be when Licentious Louse trashes Social Security and Medicare. It’s guaranteed to happen if he’s still in the White House on 1/21/2021.

  38. Jenny 2020-08-13 20:22

Minnesota is spending 3 million to renovate and update its governors mansion in St. Paul. Security will be updated as well. Appraisers noted numerous deficiencies, the place was built in 1912 and is a 16000 sq ft brick Tudor.
SD is not MN though. The MN gov mansion is in the middle of a major city known for protesting and civil unrest. Minnesota has had thousands of protesters right outside the mansion at numerous times since I’ve lived here and a thug tried run through the security fence when Dayton was governor. Three million sounds low compared to a four hundred thousand wall for the SD governors house in a tiny town In the middle of nowhere that most people have ever heard of.

  39. Debbo 2020-08-13 20:24

Every word, Jenny, every word. Besides, Kruel Kristi despises Blue, Caring and Prosperous Minnesota. She would never want to be like us.

  40. Donald Pay 2020-08-13 20:25

Let’s understand. They’re afraid of We the People. They are very right to be afraid. They are going to do whatever they have to to stay in power. A fence ain’t going to be good enough, though. You see what’s happening in Belarus? That’s what they are really going to do.

  41. jerry 2020-08-13 20:41

I wonder how deep they will go with the foundation on Fort Tinker Belle’s fence. Visigoths can dig like badgers or what if the Visigoths contract the digging to these guys, free read, check it out https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/30/world/americas/tunnel-us-mexico-border.html

“Ventilation tubes and electricity cables run along the rough-hewed walls. Rudimentary rails stretch along the ground. The dank, waterlogged conditions belie the desert conditions at the surface, some 70 feet above.

Pictures and video of the remarkable smuggling tunnel, the longest ever found at the Mexico-United States border, were released by the American authorities on Wednesday. The shaft stretched some 4,309 feet, nearly a mile, between Tijuana, Mexico, and the outskirts of San Diego.”

1 mile of tunnel, damn, that in itself makes those guard towers obsolete before they were even manned. Booyah! Saved the taxpayers $3,000,000.00 a year!

  42. Debbo 2020-08-13 21:04

    “Fort Tinker Belle”

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  43. Mary D 2020-08-14 12:21

After the fence is in, they will have to dig quite deep to build a tunnel . Because soon she will want a moat with alligators so they will have to dig below that. A tunnel does sound like a good escape mechanism though so her boy/pal as Cory calls him can rescue her.
