Noem Exposed to Coronavirus, Declines to Say Whether She’ll Self-Isolate

Lee Strubinger publishes the evidence that Governor Kristi Noem was in close contagion proximity Thursday to Trump campaign fundraiser and Trump Jr. girlfriend Kim Guilfoyle, who tested positive for coronavirus here in South Dakota on Friday. Strubinger posts two pictures to establish that, yes, that’s Kristi:

Lee Strubinger, "Noem Not Concerned Following Event with Covid-Positive Trump Official," SDPB, updated 2020.07.05.
Lee Strubinger, “Noem Not Concerned Following Event with Covid-Positive Trump Official,” SDPB, updated 2020.07.05.

Aaron Rupar of Vox posts a video showing Noem seated with Guilfoyle, Trump Jr., and a couple other men in a small group apparently assembled to make remarks to the Thursday fundraiser crowd indoors:

Team Noem tells Strubinger that she tested negative for coronavirus Friday before speaking at Trump’s inflammatory and sadly divisive Rushmore rally and thus is not concerned about having contracted the disease. Noem flack Maggie Seidel gives both Strubinger and KELO-TV non-answers on whether the Governor will self-isolate following her exposure to the likely contagious Guilfoyle:

KELOLAND News also asked Seidel if the governor was taking any precautions due to her potential exposure to coronavirus. Seidel’s response is below:

“As the Governor has said over and over, science tells us not to focus on cases (the data set is junk because so many people are asymptomatic, among other things). The only thing we can reliably look to is hospitalization. Today, there are 54 people in the hospital in South Dakota”  [Angela Kennecke, “Governor Noem’s Close Contact with Trump Staffer Who Tested Positive for Covid-19,” KELO-TV, 2020.07.04].

Harvard Medical School notes that nasal/throat swab and saliva tests, the kind of test Rep. Dusty Johnson reported getting at Rushmore Friday, throw false negatives “100% of the time on the day you are exposed to the virus” and “about 40% of the time if you are tested four days after exposure to the virus.”

The CDC, whose guidelines Governor Noem’s office encouraged all attendees at Friday’s Rushmore rally to follow, says, “Anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has covid-19” needs to quarantine. The CDC says “close contact” includes being “within 6 feet of someone who has covid-19 for at least 15 minutes” or having “direct physical contact with the person (touched, hugged, or kissed them).” The CDC says people so exposed by close contact should “stay home for 14 days after your last contact with a person who has covid-19, watch for fever (100.4°F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of covid-19, [and] if possible, stay away from others, especially people who are at higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19.

Governor Noem, you had close contact with someone who has tested positive for covid-19. Don’t go to the office. Don’t go downtown. Don’t go make any speeches around the state. Stay home.

Update 07:24 CDT: Montana Republican candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, Congress, and auditor who attended a fundraiser with Guilfoyle on Tuesday are self-isolating.

Real men like drumpf and Noem nothing probably don’t eat quiche, either. Not manly-like.

  2. Bobanna 2020-07-05 08:23

It would be the responsible thing to do, stay home and quarantine, so will be interesting to see what she actually does.

  3. grudznick 2020-07-05 08:45

Quiche and gravy for breakfast this morning at the Conservatives with Common Sense breakfast, where we shall discuss the Governor’s work schedule and testing for the covid bugs.

  4. Donald Pay 2020-07-05 10:07

I hope she dies fast, so she doesn’t infect others.

  5. grudznick 2020-07-05 10:41

Not a very brotherly attitude there, Mr. Pay, wishing death upon anyone. What would people say to grudznick if I came in here wishing criminal protesters would die? Of course I don’t because I’m all about love and tolerance.

Plus, I think dead bodies can pass the covid bugs for days.

  6. grudznick 2020-07-05 10:48

Mr. Rhoden, you know, was at the event, and he was not a masked cowboy. If Ms. Noem were to die, Mr. Rhoden would assume power and fight off the bugs through sheer force of will. When the next zombie apocalypse starts, Mr. Rhoden won’t have to try to survive, the zombies will. No zombie or covid bug can withstand a Rhoden gut-punch.

  7. Donald Pay 2020-07-05 11:21

Grudz, when someone is so irresponsible, even purposeful, in endangering others, I see no need to coddle them. “Die fast” is the conservative approach to health care, and I’m just wishing on her that she live (and die) by her values.

  8. Steven Higgins 2020-07-05 11:55

And Donal Pay is a SHPOS.

  9. Robin Friday 2020-07-05 12:34

The masks and the distancing should have come *before* the huggy-hug meetings, not after. We’ll see what happens to gov and kim from here on out, but obviously, they couldn’t offend the big guy by denying even nonverbally what he says and doesn’t say about the pandemic. Their attitude is if we don’t talk about it, it doesn’t exist.

  10. leslie 2020-07-05 12:35

Hey steve, u know tim? Long time no hear.

  11. mike from iowa 2020-07-05 12:47

Wasn’t too long ago, grudzilla’s none too human compatriots were telling elders to take one for the team and die. drumpf has driven the covid car so far into the ditch he has basically quit and is telling people to learn to live with it.

I disremember any wingnuts, particularly the ones that spew venom here, lecturing those tools on wishing people dead. Must be the color of their skin and white privilege protecting them from the wrath of grudzilla or Higgins part duh.

  12. Steven Higgins 2020-07-05 13:38

Well mike, I guess you forgot about little stories like this one (and notice it is NBC News and not Fox News)…

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/coronavirus-spreads-new-york-nursing-home-forced-take-recovering-patients-n1191811

So you want to tell me how the actions of several democratic governors ordering nursing homes to accept COVID-19 positive patients was in the best interest of those nursing home residents? So which governors wanted people to die? And which governor was the one who stated that we all die someitme when asked about this mandate? Well Mike….duh.

  13. Greg 2020-07-05 13:54

Steve Higgins, if a SHPOS means what I think it does you are right about what Donald Pay just spewed out. No brains to make a statement like that.

  14. mike from iowa 2020-07-05 14:15

Part duh, it was yer twin brother, drumpf, that said covid was a harmless hoax and would magically disappear and even after 132k deaths, he still thinks it will just disappear.

As for Cuomo’s decisions on what to do with these patients, with no guidance from drumpf’s fed and no experience to draw from, I will give him some benefit of doubt, even though it appears to have been a poor decision.

Dem governors at the very least, made an effort to slow down this pandemic. drumpf and Higgins part duh, not so much.

Donald Pay had every right to toss wingnut disgusting ejaculations right back at them.

  15. mike from iowa 2020-07-05 14:20

SHPOS, does that SH stand for Steve HIggins? Steve Higgins POS would make a great email name and people would have a good idea where you were coming from.

Plus your Cuomo whine was totally irrelevant to the conversation at hand.

  16. mike from iowa 2020-07-05 14:25

Someone needs to inform Noem Nothing (second photo with her boots) there is medicine made to cure black heads. I’d bet they were 2 fine looking young white girls.

    Hello,
I am a respiratory droplet of The COVID 19 virus.
I came to your state with the intention of spreading my cause as fast as I am able. Many transporter was Kimberly Guilfoyle and my job was to
infect the Governor of South Dakota.
Everything went as planned and when the hug came I had my chance.
    I made the leap.
    Mission accomplished.
Thank goodness I was able to get back to Kimberly before the hug was complete.
That was one rancid piece of meat.

  18. 96Tears 2020-07-05 15:00

COVID Kristi and Donald Trump are not part of the solution, but the heart of the problem that is killing tens of thousands of Americans, and infecting more than 50,000 Americans each day. Both of these POSs encourage Americans to ignore social distancing and refuse to set an example by wearing a mask. That alone triples the likelihood of infection. This is genocide.

I’m angry as hell about the carnage they inspire. Trump dumped his responsibilities and cut and ran from them. A worthless coward. The responsibilities have fallen entirely on the shoulders of governors, most of whom try their best to provide security for those who don’t have COVID 19 and care for those who have. And there are some worthless POS governors like Noem who see the crisis and the carnage as a cheap photo op.

If Donald Pay is half as angry as I am, I don’t blame him for his remarks here. The Trumpanzees who think they need to protect the President and this horribly inept Governor are the monsters.

Sorry, grudz, for blowing my stack (realizing your sensitivities and politeness), but these self-righteous SOBs have no moral leg to stand on. They can buzz (insert verb of your choice) off.

  19. 96Tears 2020-07-05 15:03

Grudz – Given a choice between COVID Kristi and Larry Rhoden to serve out the rest of the current term, our state would be infinitely better served with Rhoden as Governor. COVID Kristi has been a disaster in the office.

  20. DaveFN 2020-07-05 16:37

“We’re in the fight of our lives right now for the heart and soul of this country,” one can hear Guilfoyle preaching to her choir amidst applause in the clip. What kind of cult is this? What kind of group psychosis?

  21. grudznick 2020-07-05 16:55

The Rhoden Rhangers stand ready to assist Lt. Governor Rhoden in whatever manner he wishes. We have many administrators who are all part of the militia ready to help the transition.

T-shirts are being ordered with the same Rhoden Rhanger logo as last time. If you need one email grudznick with your size.

  22. 96Tears 2020-07-05 17:30

If COVID Kristi croaks from C-19, let’s pray Rhoden didn’t also catch it. I believe the next in line of succession (secession is a different word, but comes too easily to the loony rightwingers) is the Speaker of the House. I believe that would be the worst outcome. Steven Haugen was a disgrace as Speaker.

Get on your knees and pray, Rangers!

  23. Cathy 2020-07-05 17:31

It wasn’t that long ago I had a discussion with friends and no one could remember the name of the lt. governor–I had to look it up, lol. Even now I had to remind myself that the Rhoden guy was the spare.

  24. jerry 2020-07-05 17:34

I don’t like to say it, but I for one, would not grieve if GNOem was infected by the girlfriend, bit the bullet, and left us. For her to kill residents of this state in such a cold blooded way speaks for itself. 173 tests..in a pandemic..what a bad joke.

“South Dakota completed only 173 tests and found 35 new cases of COVID-19 illness. Another strange statistic from Sunday morning’s report is that only one person was listed as recovered. That pushed the number of active cases in the state back above 900 to 903. This is the first time active cases have been above 900 since June 16.

There have been a total of 7,063 infections in the state.” Rapid City Journal 7.5.20

  25. grudznick 2020-07-05 17:41

Mr. Rhoden will not be withered by a small covid bug. He will stand ready as the Acting Governor and LGAS for the next two weeks, I am sure, as Governor Noem fights back the bugs in the recuperative wing of the Mansion.

I would not worry about Mr. Rhoden’s constitution, as it is stout, and tall like an oak with an iron spine. Not even hail the size of hen eggs can dent his determination.

  26. grudznick 2020-07-05 17:45

I agree with Mr. jerry that we would be better off if we had Mr. Rhoden out there conducting tests. Or deciding how many to conduct. Mr. Rhoden would not settle for 175.

Who is it that decides how many tests are conducted? We need to castigate them at a restaurant that doesn’t require masks.

  27. grudznick 2020-07-05 18:06

I note that active cases of the infections of covid bugs have risen to over 900 after being at 800 for weeks. Perhaps the Rushmore gathering was a bad idea after all.

No, the fireworks were good, and worth it.

  28. Dave 2020-07-05 20:14

How many people handled the microphone seen in the video? At least Kim and Kristi, for sure. So, they and others touched it with their hands, and then likely touched their (collective) faces or rubbed their eyes or scratched their noses. And, we’re not even talking about the working end of the mic, that collected more than just the words that came out of everyone’s mouth. And … according to the CDC, on average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days. Doesn’t that mean that Kristi’s negative test on Friday is meaningless? I’m not a doctor but maybe somebody who knows their stuff about this can provide an answer. If I was Kristi, though, I’d be a bit worried. If I was the First Gentleman, I’d be sleeping in a different room.

  29. T 2020-07-05 20:29

It’s like someone having aids and continues to spread by unprotected sex
She was exposed so she should isolate

  30. grudznick 2020-07-05 20:31

Mr. Dave, I counted 9 total people besides Governor Noem, and that assumes the microphone device was clean when it was first pulled from its perch. If I was the First Gentleman, I’d keep sleeping in the same room and just get everybody tested again in a few days.

  31. Donald Pay 2020-07-05 20:44

I’ve been thinking whether I would change my statement above. I certainly don’t wish death on anyone. On the other hand, Noem’s actions are irresponsible. She put many people in danger by being so weak in intellect and character. Some could die as a result of her selfishness and irresponsibility. I doubt she has the character to change. Better that she die fast than that innocent people who might get COVID from her and her bread and circus irresponsibility.

  32. jerry 2020-07-05 21:14

57,000 cases yesterday of the Covid that trump and his sidekicks have delivered. Not one thing have they done to improve our lives in the last 3 and half years, only theft have they accomplished. Now the complete lack of leadership from these frauds.

EB5 Short Rounds and the tall skin tag, Thune could have saved tens of thousands Americans from death and early death by impeaching this traitor. Instead, they threw all in as traitors themselves to destroy the country. BTW, they’re doing one helluva job in that department with 40 million unemployed and many more on the way. Look out teachers, your next on the chopping block called republican governance.

Who can forget that these same traitors allow a bounty on American troopers heads. Putin loves these traitors. Wonder when Thune will take another trip to Moscow to pick out his suite in the traitor trump hotel.

There’s just no excuse for the heartlessness of Psychopathic SOB and Kruel Kristi. They truly have blood on their hands and do not deserve anything but being put in a position where they can do no harm.

  34. jerry 2020-07-05 21:54

GNOem better get her arse to a hospital bed before they are full like in Texas.

“All beds are occupied in parts of Texas – one of the states worst hit by the resurgent virus.

“Our hospitals here in Harris County, Houston and 33 other cities … they’re into surge capacities,” Lina Hidalgo, the county’s chief executive, told ABC television in the US. Her comments were echoed by Houston mayor Sylvester Turner, who said the system could be “overwhelmed” if the outbreak was not brought under control.

Steve Adler, the mayor of Austin, has also expressed concern that hospitals could soon reach breaking point.

“If we don’t change our trajectory, then I am within two weeks of having our hospitals overrun. And in our ICUs, I could be 10 days away from that,” the mayor told CNN.”

So there ya go, the trump hoax is killing us.

“President Donald Trump is being trolled on Twitter after footage of a man singing a Bruno Mars song at his Fourth of July event at the White House was shared online.

“Many of the president’s critics were quick to point out that former President Barack Obama had the real Bruno Mars perform at his Fourth of July party in 2015, calling it ‘a tale of two presidents.’

“‘Perfect anology [sic] for the deterioration at the White House: 5 years ago the real Bruno Mars performed at the White House,’ one user wrote on Twitter while retweeting the video of Trump’s celebration.”

That statement is completely idiotic and doesn’t answer the question that was asked about self-isolating. Expect Krystal to stay out of public view for a few days and then announce whether or not she has continued to test negative. Knowingly spreading AIDS is a serious no-no-

    S.D. Codified Laws §§ 22-18-31, 22-18-33, 22-18-34
    Class 3 Felony
It is unlawful for any person, knowing him/herself to be infected with HIV, to intentionally expose another person to infection by: (1) engaging in sexual intercourse or other intimate physical contact with another person; (2) transferring, donating or providing blood, tissue, semen, organs or other potentially infectious body fluids or parts for administration to another person in any manner that presents a significant risk of HIV infection; (3) transferring in any way to another person any nonsterile intravenous or intramuscular drug paraphernalia that has been contaminated by him/herself; or (4) causing blood or semen to come in contact with another person for the purpose of exposing that person to HIV infection. The actual transmission of HIV is not a required element of this offense. It is an affirmative defense, if proven by a preponderance of the evidence, that the person exposed to HIV knew the infected person was infected with HIV, knew the action could result in infection with HIV, and gave advance consent to the action with that knowledge.

So many distractions, so little time.

Kristi Noem had close contact with a person who tested positive. The CDC says Kristi Noem should self-isolate for two weeks to protect the health of others. As of news time this noon, Kristi Noem still has not announced that she is going to self-isolate to protect anyone.

Kristi Noem is a menace to public health.

On Mike’s note: per SDCL 34-22-5, intentionally exposing others to a communicable disease is a Class 2 misdemeanor. Under SDCL 34-22-18, ” Any person who intentionally refuses to accept the diagnosis or treatment, or both, or who fails to follow the reasonable and necessary directives of the department issued for the protection of other persons, is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.”

Just saw that COVIS Kristi took a ride on Air Force 1 after the Rushmore event. Good! Pretty much locks in more coronavirus going around the White House and the state capitol in Pierre.

If they both test negative it assumes Trump and COVIS Kristi are too mean for the virus.
