Kennedy: No Problems Resulting from SDHSAA Transgender Policy

In the solutions-seeking-a-problem department, Senator Craig Kennedy (D-18/Yankton) offers the true conservative reason to vote against Senate Bill 49, Senator Jim Bolin’s resurrection of the anti-transgender potty-panic bill—quite simply, there’s no problem to solve:

Regardless of motivation for introducing such pieces of legislation, Kennedy said South Dakota is unique in that each bill is entitled to a committee hearing.

“Personally, I have not heard that there has been any problem anywhere in South Dakota as a result of the Activities Association’s rule,” Kennedy said [Jeremy Hoeck, “Session Slowly Takes Shape,” Yankton Press & Dakotan, 2019.01.20].

I haven’t heard of a single case of a transgender student throwing any high school in this state into turmoil by taking a whiz or suiting up for a game in accordance with the South Dakota High School Activities Association’s participation policy for transgender students.

Senate Bill 49 is the only bill currently listed on the Senate Education Committee’s agenda on Thursday, January 24, at 7:45 a.m., in Room 423 at the Capitol. Conservatives, use the next three days to call and write the conservative majority on that committee and remind them that conservatives don’t support government action when government action is not needed.

Some laws are meant to be broken. If this bill passes and is signed into law, one hopes educators will have the courage of the man whose birthday we honor today to do the right thing, and break this law into a thousand little pieces.

    We are not surprised.

Good find Mike. Males with the loudest voices against LGBT folks also seem to be the most likely to have their own sexuality issues. This is not news.

So what are Bolin’s issues? Hey Jimmy, talk to us. We’re sympathetic and supportive of your plight.

Messrs. Kennedy and Bolin are a contrast in haircuts and styles when it comes to certain things that grudznick cares about. Often I find myself in lockstep with Mr. Bolin, he of the conservative and common sense bent, but when it comes to bathrooms and such I prefer Mr. Kennedy’s style of staying away from the head when I’m in there doing my business. Mr. Kennedy is a hands-off sort of fellow when it comes to my bathroom business, and you want him and Mr. Bolin, too, to be hands-off on your bathroom visits.
