Jason Ravnsborg, Man God

Jason Ravnsborg just spent a truckload of money (more than 62% of it so far from out of state) to declare himself God in our Sunday papers.

His parents, Richard and Jeannie Ravnsborg, taught Jason how to be a man of his word, a man of service, and a man God [Jason Ravnsborg campaign ad, inserted in Aberdeen American News, 2018.11.04].

Well, at least he didn’t try to claim a virgin birth.

As of October 17, Ravnsborg reported paying out $21,000 in campaign salaries. Evidently those paychecks didn’t include a proofreader.

Among the donors who think Ravnsborg is God are the DC-based Republican Attorney Generals Association (two $50K donations so far, plus a donated survey valued at $7,875), Las Vegas Sands ($4,000), Neal Tapio ($750 last Sunday), 21st Century Fox America ($500),  Home Depot ($1,000), and Facebook ($4,000).

Obviously, the most obvious question is whether his parents were into kink unless one assumes that was a misprint.

But seriously, a man god would know whether he tried criminal cases and which ones he did try. A man god would exude confidence and savoir faire.

Man God? What’s up with his eyes?

  3. Kelly 2018-11-04 13:51

Did anyone teach the man God that it’s a sin to lie?

  4. grudgenutz 2018-11-04 15:36

    FaceBook? WTF?

  5. Kelly 2018-11-04 16:02

He’s been living off the government long enough. Get a job, but where does a man God get a job?

  6. Timoteo 2018-11-04 16:17

I would assume they meant to say that he’s a man of God, not a man God.

  7. Rorschach 2018-11-04 16:56

It’s a misprint. They meant mad dog. I mean … look at him.

  8. mike from iowa 2018-11-04 17:06

Job? How about Las Vegas dive through chapels where his legal papers should allow him to perform quickie weddings. Not sure he is qualified-experience wise, but, why not give it a shot?

$2000 from Xcaliber International Ltd, LLC, a tobacco products company that manufactures and sells cigarettes? They market their cigarettes through wholesalers and distributors. Xcaliber must think SD will continue to be one of the only states that still tolerates cigarettes. And should the public mood shift, an AG that won’t allow regulations that even the playing field for those trying to quit the addiction.
$4000 from Las Vegas Sands? When the SDGOP skims their rake off the sports betting market that’s coming to SD, they’ll need a complacent and compliant AG to conveniently look the other way. The casino will get a sweetheart deal to set up a wagering paradigm that’s tilted the Republican way and LV Sands apparently has their “crook up front”.

    Facebook giving money! WTF?

  11. Debbo 2018-11-04 19:18

Now there’s a flesh and blood hypocrite. Everyone knows gods are not flesh and blood.

  12. Kelly 2018-11-04 21:07

What a dishonest basterd, I mean man God.

  13. grudznick 2018-11-04 21:19

This fellow, Mr. Ravsnborg, is completely unfit and unqualified to be the Attorney General of the Great State of South Dakota. However many of you blogites who actually live here in South Dakota there are, 5, 6, more, I urge you all to vote for Mr. Seiler. Mr. Seiler may not be a man-god, but he’s a good man.

Speaking of PAPERS, the deep important of these constitutional office candidates can be illustrated by brash politicization. Facebook legal regulation? Pay off the Republican AG.

Election outcomes matter. Republican SOS Krebs (who ran for Congress) finally protects 8 counties using digital voting machines THE DAY BEFORE THE ELECTION with backup PAPER records.

Elect DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE Shirley Fredericks Secretary of State.

Stop Republican voter suppression in SD!

  15. leslie 2018-11-05 09:06

Trump billionaire crony Sheldon Adelson owns The SANDS money laundry casino. He is one of those Republican billionaires who got Trump elected so billions in tax cuts went straight into his pockets and tax havens like SD. Ravsborg will steal your future with tax cuts for the rich. Jason :)

  16. Porter Lansing 2018-11-05 11:12

Thx, Leslie. I didn’t connect The Sands with Shel Adelson.

  17. Corey Klatt 2018-11-05 11:57

Don’t you think that this is likely a typo?

  18. mike from iowa 2018-11-05 12:03

Leslie, Porter and the Troll- Steyer and Soros wealth combined is barely one third of Adelson’s personal wealth.

    Steyer- 1.6 billion
    Soros- 8.3 billion
    Adelson- 35 billion

Corey Klatt- was your question serious?

  19. mike from iowa 2018-11-05 12:08

The Koch brothers’ net worth is a combined $103.4 billion, according to Forbes, adding up their individual net worths of $51.7 billion each. Much of their wealth comes from Koch Industries, which has colossal influence across a range of American markets.Jun 23, 2018

The koch bros, especially Chuck, have their grubby little fingers in all kinds of wingnut skullduggery designed to advance the koch bros because the koch bros write the damn legislation for wingnut flunkies to pass at state and federal levels.

Everything Drumpf and right wing billionaires are not about. These billionaires give and give and give and……..for the benefit of all HUMANS.

    Sorry for the off topic.

Hey, Corey K, if I’m going to spend umpteen-thousand dollars on a big color insert in Sunday papers around the state, I’m going to proofread the heck out of it to make sure there are no typos that make me look like an idiot. Image matters. So do details, especially when you’re presuming to defend South Dakota’s interests in the United States Supreme Court.

  22. Debbo 2018-11-05 14:13

Ravsbutt reminds me of Dimbulb Dubya. Picked by the nasties like Darth Cheney, they wanted Dubya precisely because he wasn’t very bright and they could prop him up front while they were off to their dirty deeds like making billions of bucks off their horrendous “perpetual war” while thousands of Americans and millions of Middle Easterners died. Dubya stood there with his blank smirk, god talk, and willingness to say what he was told, all the while getting all giddy to be the “decider.”

It’s the same thing with the SDGOP and Ravsbutt. Actually it goes farther than the SDGOP. I should have said the Korporate Kochs that Mike described. Ravsbutt was essentially their pick. Why? Because, like Dubya, he’s not that bright and he’ll be a good boy, doing as he’s told. In the meantime, he’ll get to stand up in front of microphones, get lots of attention, and pretend he’s a real lawyer.

It’s a nefarious GOP/Koch scheme to continue grifting off the good people of SD. You citizens won’t get the help you’re due or promised. It will go in the pockets of a few crooks you vote for while you continue to struggle. Is that what you want for yourself and your descendants?

    VOTE DEMOCRATIC!!!

  23. mike from iowa 2018-11-05 14:58

And as a reminder to whiney North Mississippians that complain about poor little old me and Porter mucking up the place, the koch bros et al spend way more hundreds of thousands of dollars to influence policies in yer state than me and Porter and Debbo and Jen combined.

  24. Debbo 2018-11-05 15:02

Excellent point Mike. You are the DFP Champion for 2018 !!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
    🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

And that, sports fans, is the #1 reason we are here. 😁

Jason aka Miranda Gohn is an out of stater, too. He/she moved to Lakeville , MN and only works in S.D. two days a month.

  26. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-11-05 19:24

If anyone is running the out-of-state critique, Randy Seiler was born in Herreid, worked in Mobridge, lives in Fort Pierre. If I’m not mistaken, the most time he spent out of state was when he served his country in Vietnam. Jason Ravnsborg is an out-of-stater: like Dan Lederman, he’s from Iowa, and he may have more family there than here.

Randy Seiler has also never claimed to be God.

  27. grudznick 2018-11-05 20:02

I’m all in for Mr. Seiler, but we should be clear: Mr. Seiler has never claimed to be a man God, that we know of.

  28. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-11-05 22:48

…and Grudz, there’s no sense in voting on anything other than what we know.

We know Jason is a complete screw-up, good for nothing but wheedling nominations from easily hoodwinkable Trumpublicans.

We know Randy Seiler has the experience necessary to represent our state in court.

Does that include you typing it in at the the printer?

This thread makes the printer look bad, not Jason.

This thread demonstrates why you are not qualified to be in the legislature.

  30. Porter Lansing 2018-11-06 06:14

Jason from MN represents President Trump’s midterm campaign built on dark themes of fear, anger, division, nationalism and racial animosity. They want a Democrat reaction, making us appear to be an “angry mob”. It’s a political tactic President Trump’s using to take attention away from himself and his crude behavior.
It’s Election Day, not the time to be distracted or diverted from the job at hand.

  31. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-11-06 07:01

Why make excuses for poor performance, Jason?

Every document I’ve submitted for political advertising goes to the printer in PDF or JPEG format to avoid exactly this kind of error. Whenever my printers do any work for me, they always send a proof for me to review, to ensure they are providing the product the customer wants and to avoid the kind of mistake you are trying to blame them for. The ad buyer signs off on the final version. The ad buyer owns any mistakes.

And seriously: when an ad comes out badly—when I get the occasional card where the machine cut off a little of my image or my text—nobody looks at the ad and immediately thinks, “What a shoddy printer!” Ads send a message about the entity buying the ad. Errors in an ad make the advertiser look bad.

“Man God”—that’s Ravnsborg’s error, and it shows his sloppiness.

Trump’s racist ad doesn’t reflect on his ad firm in the public mind. It reflects on him and his racism-fueled party.

  32. Jason 2018-11-06 07:04

You don’t know the procedure that was done with Jason’s ad.

How was the Trump ad racist Cory?

  33. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-11-06 07:12

I know the procedure done by any responsible: we submit our content, we demand a proof before printing, and we proofread it to ensure we aren’t embarrassed by any mistakes.

Ravnsborg failed to perform due diligence on an ad. We can’t count on him to do due diligence when representing our state in court.

  34. Jason 2018-11-06 07:16

You have made mistakes in your articles on here.

    Every human makes mistakes.

  35. mike from iowa 2018-11-06 07:41

The Troll apparently believes DFP stands for StormFront.

  36. Darrell Solberg 2018-11-06 07:51

So Jason, you are now admitting that the campaign piece was done in a sloppy manner? But you have to justify that acknowledgement with the comment “every human makes mistakes” just to make you feel better. I can’t believe a person thinks the “R” is more important than the qualifications of an individual running for the position of top prosecutor in South Dakota. Experience does matter!!!

  37. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2018-11-06 12:42

Yup, and mistakes make a campaign look bad. Jason Ravnsborg is asking us to overlook his lack of experience, but now he piles on and shows a lack of attention to detail. Experience and attention to detail are both good qualities for an attorney general. Ravnsborg is asking us to elect him despite his obvious, demonstrated weakness. Why would we do that when we have an experienced candidate in Randy Seiler who has made no such obvious, embarrassing, and avoidable errors in this campaign?

  38. Jason 2018-11-06 12:46

    Cory,

Are you ever going to tell us why you think that ad is racist?

    I am guessing not.

  39. Porter Lansing 2018-11-06 13:03

It’s election day and Jason is on lunch from his job at the Mpls. VFW. He represents President Trump’s midterm campaign built on dark themes of fear, anger, division, nationalism and racial animosity. He just wants a Democrat emotional reaction, making us appear to be an “angry mob”. It’s a political tactic President Trump’s using to take attention away from himself and his crude behavior. Same tactic used by Nazi’s after the Reichstag fire to say their enemies were planning widespread political violence.
No reason to allow Jason to distract and divert us from the task at hand. The talk’s over, Jason. Go vote in Minnesota.
