With no apologies….

South Dakotans Reject GOP Party slam on American flag, call on Noem to end sponsorship of disrespect for flag.

Today patriotic South Dakotans called on Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Kristy Noem to address the anti-American statements expressed by GOP Party-sponsored blogger Pat Powers on July 11, and whether Noem endorses the graphic that characterized our great President Abraham Lincoln as a violent America-hater who would drape the American Flag over a wild animal and sit on the American Flag as a saddle blanket.

Patriotic South Dakotan Cory Allen Heidelberger said, “Our founding fathers fought and died on the battlefield and forged what grew to be the greatest nation on earth based on the principle we should always respect the American Flag. July 11 is a day of great importance in American history. On July 11, 1796, the United States took possession of Detroit from the British and erected the American Flag over what was destined to become a great American city. On July 11, 1798, Congress re-established the United States Marine Corps, whose brave members have fought and died to defend the American Flag. On July 11, 1864, the Confederate Army launched an ill-fated invasion of Washington, D.C., and President Lincoln himself faced down the fire of traitors as loyal Americans defended our American Flag. That Powers would travel to our Nation’s Capital to flaunt his disrespect for the American Flag would surely make those traitors proud.

7-Eleven also gives out free Slurpees on July 11, and a more American drink than the Slurpee there is not. Powers may as well have depicted the great Abraham Lincoln using the American Flag to wipe up a spilled Slurpee.

“With Mr Powers, the official voice of the GOP party, mocking those values on the very day we celebrate these important moments in American history, not to mention encouraging his own son to abuse the American Flag, it does not bode well for the kind of people that Kristi Noem would bring to Pierre with her. The people of South Dakota reject that kind of unpatriotic revisionism that Republicans continually try to inject into our state.”

Heidelberger added, “It is further evident that Kristi Noem, GOP Party chairman Dan Lederman, and other unpatriotic Republicans are willing to support this disrespect to the American Flag with their campaign dollars, buying ads on Powers’s blog while their director of propaganda is bashing the American Flag.”

That’s a terrible shirt that no patriotic American should ever consider buying.

  2. Rorschach

Abe Lincoln riding sidesaddle. The next photo that didn’t make it on the shirt is Abe falling backward, scrunching his hat accordion style, accidentally shooting the grizzly causing it to land on top of him, and that document he’s holding being covered in mud and blood.

Are you sure he’s ridding the bear? Maybe the bear is a Russian bear and he’s doing something else.

Are you going to allow me to make 15 comments as anonymous/anon/nony/nymous…..?

If we’re going to do this, let’s do this right

  5. Good Job Cory, when I saw the post all I thought was, “Man that is one ugly shirt.” But you also have to take Pitty Patt’s taste into account. His favorite band is STYX and the thing he gets most excited about when going to our nation’s capital is eating fried cod.

  6. Kelly

I would encourage everyone to boycott his website and immediately end all advertising with powers on his website. It’s time this guy gets taken down.

  7. Kelly

His greasy fried food posts were horrible. No wonder his entire family is chubby. The guy is
Disgusting, along with little Annie Beals.

Is that a boar or a bear that Lincoln is riding on in that t-shirt? Because if it is a boar, then it symbolizes how the GOP are not unlike the eventual intentions of the swine in ‘Animal Farm;’ but if it is a bear, then it symbolizes how a former Soviet bear, or Putin, is taking Trump and the GOP for a ride….

A quick google search for “American Flag Saddle Blanket” will reveal that a number of different styles are available in a range of prices.
For some reason this has never offended anybody until now.

This upsets me even more than the NFL displaying the flag flat at the beginning of football games (see U.S. Code Title 4 Chapter 1 section 8c). Refer to the rest of section 8 for an outline of this disrespect.

Ah gee Dave, I hope you have a safe space where you can sit on the floor with an old blanket and watch recordings of Mister Rogers Neighborhood until you recover from your distress.

  12. dave knudsen

I do, Anne – thanks for asking. I hope you have . . . never mind; not in the spirit of this comments section.

  13. Kal Lis, my tolerance for satire by imitation goes only so far. We don’t need sockpuppets to do this right.

  14. John—Bear! It’s a bear! Another symbol of unpatriotic surrender! Powers must apologize for this outrage!

  15. mike from iowa

Anne Beal prolly worships her MAGAT hat. Notice it comes in 2 patriotic colors, Commie Red and stone waste of white white.

  16. Another Bear! The whole forest is going to be in an uproar over this unpatriotic outrage!

  17. Rorschach

Nothing says patriotism like a Chinese made t-shirt that disrespects the United States flag.

  18. Great satire, Cory. You absolutely nailed it.

If Billie Sutton were required to answer for the actions of Samuel Parkinson, then Kristi Noem would be required to answer for the actions of Dan Lederman. Unfortunately for Lederman (though perhaps fortunately for Noem), that’s not how any of this works.

Lederman is eager to sow discord in South Dakota politics, even if doing so ultimately hurts his own candidate. Maybe the South Dakota Republican Party ought to support tighter restrictions on immigration from Iowa.

Thanks, Evans. The Buckaroo Bar in Hudson was more than happy to take invasive species paychecks on weekends. If it was still standing (listing heavily) I could show you how my blue jeans polished the seat of my own personal barstool, back in my halcyon days of underage drinking in yer state.

To be clear, I was referring to immigration into the leadership of the South Dakota Republican Party—specifically by Dan Lederman—and I was joking. Some of my favorite people are Iowegian immigrants.

I could also note that Cory’s case is actually stronger than the one he’s parodying, since Kristi Noem actively sponsors the Powers blog.

I can agree with Ms. Kelly, but only to a degree. It would be good if Mr. PP were to eat real meat on his journies to blog from the DC Capitol. He eats fish, and it is deep fried which does make it better, but he could eat that in his town too. I think it is the atmosphere of the establishments he is seeking. grudznick, myself, used to once be a bit of a chubby fellow because of breakfasting back in the day, before I became old and frail and disordered of bowel, of which I shall not elaborate. Now I breakfast, but am thin as a fence post. We can all mock Mr. Powers for being chubby and mock Ms. Tornberg for being incompetent and mock Mr. Howie for being insaner than most, but in the end people will draw cartoons.

Mock Pat Powers the way he mocks us? OK. My best Power’s story is when he got the results from his DNA test and puzzled said, “I was always told we were Irish but the test showed no Irish bloodline. I guess Dad was wrong.” Or, maybe you don’t really know who your Dad is, Paddy. #grins
