Committees have more good than bad before them on this last day for regular committee work. As I review the morning agendae, I find just one measure that would prompt me to active opposition.
House Joint Resolution 1006 would place on the November ballot a constitutional amendment to impose the single-subject rule on constitutional amendments. HJR 1006 is the umpteenth component of Speaker G. Mark Mickelson’s war on direct democracy. We can vote down this unnecessary lawyer bait ourselves in November, but why not spare us the trouble, Senate State Affairs, and kill it today at 10:00 a.m.?
James Nord reports this clunker passed Senate State Affairs 6–3.
