Poli-sci profs Brandon Rottinghaus and Justin S. Vaughn asked the Presidents and Executive Politics section of the American Political Science Association to rank America’s Presidents. The 170 scholars who responded said the top five are Mount Rushmore plus FDR. The next five are Cold Warriors—Truman, Eisenhower, Reagan, and LBJ—and Obama.
Replacing James Buchanan at the bottom is Donald J. Trump:
Yeah, but those eggheads probably have a big liberal bias. Filter out the Democrats, talk to the independents and right-thinking Republicans, and surely they’ll rank Trump more fairly to reflect all the American Greatness he is re-Making.
The poli-sci profs in this sample identifying themselves as Democrats did indeed rank Trump dead last, grading him an 8 on a 100-point scale. Independent profs put Trump second to last, above Buchanan, with a score of 16. Republican profs ranked Trump fifth to last, with a whopping 25 points out of 100, above Civil War-sliders Buchanan and Pierce, one-monther William Henry Harrison, and the impeached Andrew Johnson.
The same Republicans gave Obama a score of 57, suggesting that even Republicans recognize that Barack Obama is more than twice as good a President as his successor.
Krebs and Tapioca say that they are both in the hip pocket of trump, the pretender. Dude can’t get any lower and these clowns are on board with him.
republicans have screaming that this poll is foul (or Fake News) regardless of the fact that republican Lincoln ranks 1st among the best presidents.
Drumpf tweeted wondering why Obama didn’t do anything about Russian meddling. Oh Boy.
Today Drumpf sez Putin might have meddled. Tomorrow, Drumpf will claim he doesn’t know Putin.
Good old Harry S Truman. Always in the top 6 to 8.
It is good that Mr. H and several other libbies of ginormous extents agree that Mr. Bolin would be a better president than President Trump is today. Draft Bolin for Something!
Can we re-run that poll with Mr. Bolin included?
Grudz, I state no such agreement. While I will accede to the claim that a hard-boiled egg would be a better President than Donald Trump (fewer rude Tweets, less damage to international relations, better role model for children), I am not convinced that Bolin could overcome his partisanship, clubbish snobbery, and obsession with historical trivia to govern well.
This poll proves “Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach”.
Faced with opinions from people smarter than himself, Jason resorts to ad hominem. Weak.
“Those that can, do; those that do become teachers”.
Cory,
Please tell us how they are smarter than me?
You are correct about the opinion part. This is an opinion poll where the opinions have no basis in fact.
Jason, what’s the easiest way to keep a wingnut occupied for 24 hours?
The professors asked 170 experts, not just a couple guys arguing in a blog comment section, but individuals who have dedicated their careers to scholarly study of government, to rank the leaders of the American government. You’re going to be hard pressed to find better informed opinion.
Averaging scores from this august group, consisting of professors of varying political backgrounds, Trump comes up dead last. This isn’t just one guy’s opinion.
Or, Jason, do you mean to say these professors are completely unreliable, and that their rankings at the top—Lincoln, Washington, and the Roosevelts—are completely ridiculous as well?
The scores at the bottom seem pretty consistent with history and conventional wisdom as well. Buchanan, Pierce, and Harding aren’t flukishly placed at the bottom. Where’s the evidence of bias or error, Jason? On what grounds other than your personal distaste for the results do you dismiss these educated opinions?
Note, Jason, that I don’t like your opinions, because you’re usually petty, distracting, and wrong on facts and principles, but I don’t just say, “I don’t like what you said, so you must be wrong.” I generally dismantle your statements with facts, evidence, and logic. I invite you to rise to that standard of rhetorical conduct.
Cory,
What was the criteria for rating the Presidents?
You article didn’t mention that. Don’t you think that would be important information for your readers?
Your comments lead me to certain conclusions about your intelligence. Whatever the criteria, they are the same for all Presidents in the rankings.
Here, read their original paper:

The criteria used to rate the worst of the worst is simply that which gets Pavlov’s Jason to salivate the most. Dumbass dubya and Drumpf created a virtual dam breech of salivary sophistry.
