An eager reader goes checking out SuttonforSD.com, hoping to get an early view of which office Senator Billie Sutton will announce his bid for tomorrow morning. My reader comes up with nothing but a password-protected site… and a telling title showing up as the page title:
The page gives no content, but the page code still contains the title in two places:
<title>Sutton for South Dakota Governor — Secure</title>
…”siteTitle”:”Sutton for South Dakota Governor”,…
As my commenters have noted, either Sutton is just testing us and throwing us a curve, or someone in IT forgot to scrub that last little detail of the website that should be launching tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. Central.
I’m going to say they wouldn’t go through that much trouble to deceive people. Besides I just don’t see Billie Sutton the D.C. type. He’d be much happier in Pierre running stuff. I guess we’ll see tomorrow…
Occam and I share your preference for the simpler answer.
The website im more interested in watching is BillieSutton.com which is owned by the one and only Pat Powers.
Briggs, FANTASTIC FIND!!! I cannot wait to see what that is used for!

Just adding this to the record, found on icann.org
So Pat Powers made a billiesutton website? Why would he do that?
Interesting, Briggs! A guy tried try to squat on my name like that once. It came of nothing, and he eventually got tired of spending the money on me. But I would suspect Pat’s pal Dan Lederman will be happy to throw some money Pat’s way to support doing some dirty tricks. Rather sleazy, really.
What does this mean, Cory, can you please explain? What is icann.org?
Jenny, ICANN is the nonprofit organization responsible for maintaining a centeral DNS service. The easiest explination is they are like the keepers of the internets phonebook.
Illegal to register another person’s name in bad faith. Sutton’s people should get on this ASAP before bad actors leave anything that might come back to haunt Sutton via Wayback Machine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anticybersquatting_Consumer_Protection_Act
Jenny, Icann.org is a governing body of how the internet runs. They help establish guidelines on how websites are registered and made available for access across the globe. Basically, all this means is Powers grabbed the site billiesutton.com to use how he sees fit. It can be as be as simple as squatting on the site so it cannot be used, or the site can be used for propaganda and attacks. Guess we will see what Pat Powers has in mind.
Powers will do what Powers does.
