Tim Prater and Kaleb Weis, the two newcomers tag-teaming in Aberdeen’s southeast district race, may have a little trouble finding city council meetings:
Their new postcard shows a fuzzy image of the Brown County Courthouse. Now I agree that the Brown County Courthouse is one of the most photogenic buildings in Aberdeen. But (a) it doesn’t make sense to take a building that impressive and blur it out, and (b) Prater and Weis are running for City Council, which meets in City Hall, a block south of the courthouse.
Perhaps the card is meant to represent the view one gets from City Hall, looking north to our grand courthouse (and blotting out the blocky, characterless annexes that have accreted like barnacles around the classic architecture). But even if we reach for that graphic assumption, we must conclude that our candidates have weak vision and aren’t paying attention to what they’re being elected to attend.
I don’t mind aspirations to higher office; I just have a thing for integrity in graphic messaging.
I watched the council videos yesterday for Aberdeen. Only about one or two candidates knew what they were talking about when it comes to muni government. Having children and being from Aberdeen doesn’t qualify you.
Great photo, Governor. Since Patty Powerless can’t write two articles in a row that don’t mention you, such a photo should be e-mailed to him continually from all we Friends of the FreePress.
Porter: You’re right that Pat apparently has me so much on his mind that he needs no reminders. But if you’d like to send him another… hee hee hee!
That is an outstanding photo of Mr. H, standing in front of the White House. He has a nice grin, chin up, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and most importantly he is again sporting a nice haircut instead of the Unibomber look he fancies in the colder seasons. Dressed like that, with a more subdued affect, he could easily take the first step towards his goals by running for the District 9 House seat this next go-round and he just might win.
Fashion Tip: add pocket hankie
Subdued affect? Not going to happen. I keep my practical hanky in my back pocket. And I do not plan to move to Hartford.
