Senator Thune Visits Private School in Aberdeen

Senator John Thune visited Trinity Lutheran School before his town hall in Aberdeen yesterday:

I’m sure the kids were thrilled to meet such an important public official. But I’m curious: couldn’t a public official make time to visit the public schools, for whom in Aberdeen his efforts are responsible for 4% of the general fund and 16% of special education funds?

    Of course not

Relax. Thune gets around. I’d think 75% of the people in the state have either shaken his hand or been within a stone throws of him.

I think in a state that has as few people as SD does that there should be more public visits by their Senators and House Rep. I know it’s a safe strategy to stay away except during Fair time, but the lack of Town Halls has been actually kind of embarassing. Sioux Falls or RC would love to have them for a town hall and they know it, so therefore the criticism is deserving.

    Steve,
There are those that might like being “within a stones throw” of Thune

I don’t know why these folks are afraid to show their faces. Looks like a pretty tame crowd to me!

We must now add children to a list consisting of soldiers, veterans, and basketball players that Senator Thune is apparently more than willing to reach out to.

As far as the 75% figure is concerned. Well, I once remember McGovern saying back in ’80, during his senate race with then Representative Abdnor, that he had thought he had met just about everyone in South Dakota during the course of his political career. So I guess our current Senator has a little more work to do, in order to reach the McGovern level that is, and perhaps a more centrally located town hall meeting or meetings could go a long way in aiding that accomplishment….. Oh, and proper notice of the meetings might help as well….

    JKC

McGovern wasn’t afraid to visit the South Dakota reservations and was often a regular fixture at community meetings.
Thune will have to visit the reservations if he wants to meet any threshold.

    Roger,

Very true! And hopefully he will not just visit the reservations because of trauma ER concerns; ER concerns or problems that he and his party were responsible for due to their politics of obstruction and sequestration.

“Heh kids, do you like bears? I voted so you can take a gun and shoot the mother bears and their babies right in their den while they sleep!”

I’m having trouble moving on from this one.
