One area in which the South Dakota Investment Council continues to excel lies in keeping overhead low. According to the SDIC’s report to the Legislative Executive Board Wednesday, the fees its staff investors collect for making our state pensions and trust funds grow run less than a quarter of the average fees for public pension funds:

I may worry about the growing trend of underperformance on returns, but SDIC is still doing a really good job of taking an exceptionally small portion of those returns for the hard work it does on South Dakota’s behalf.
