South Dakota’s main anti-abortion organization, South Dakota Right to Life, didn’t endorse anyone in the gubernatorial primary, not even its own Board of Directors VP Speaker Jon Hansen. SDRTL insists it still isn’t endorsing a gubernatorial candidate in the Rhoden/Doeden runoff, but yesterday it rebutted Toby Doeden’s false accusation that Governor Larry Rhoden is beholden to pro-choice donors with an affirmation of Rhoden’s anti-abortion credentials:

Thereโs a lot of misinformation floating around during this primary runoff, so South Dakota Right to Life wants to set the record straight with some ๐ ๐๐๐๐.
๐ ๐๐๐: Larry Rhoden voted 100% with South Dakota Right to Life throughout his legislative career and led the fight as a prime sponsor of key pro-life legislation.
๐ ๐๐๐: As lieutenant governor for two terms, Larry Rhoden was a consistent pro-life advocate, including publicly opposing Amendment G, the proposed constitutional abortion amendment.
๐ ๐๐๐: As governor, Rhodenโs administration has taken direct action against illegal abortion-pill operations and abortion advertising campaigns targeting South Dakota women. This included asking Attorney General Marty Jackley to investigate abortion-pill advertisements placed at some South Dakota gas stations.
๐ ๐๐๐: Rhoden maintained the Unborn Child Advocate position in the Governor’s Office, keeping a dedicated pro-life voice at the highest level of state government.
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐: Larry Rhodenโs decades-long record on ๐๐๐ ๐ is 100% pro-life.
Donโt let misinformation tell you otherwise.
South Dakota Right to Life is not endorsing a candidate, simply stating the facts [South Dakota Right to Life, FB, 2026.07.14].
Sure, SDRTL isn’t endorsing Rhoden, but they aren’t putting Doeden’s face on their social media.
Anti-abortion crusader Leslee Unruh endorsed Rhoden in response to Doeden’s ridiculous attack in a smarmy, rambling three-and-a-half-minute video (and perhaps we should blame the rambling more on Ian Fury’s reckless editing than on Unruh), but even without an endorsement, SDRTL offers the better response, a more concise and more specific bullet list that would make a great campaign mailing or YouTube ad.
