South of Spearfish City, Toward Spearfish Mountain

I fried, peppered, and garlic salted four eggs and toasted two slices of bread for breakfast, put on an extra shirt for chilly downhills, then hit the road—Maitland Road, squeeze across the closed bridge to Christensen Drive, then up rocky Forest Road 628 and a couple other paths, in the general direction of Spearfish Mountain. My pictures show the milder stretches; when I hit the rocky rutted tracks, I was hanging on with both hands and cranking hard!

Take the downhill too fast, and this could be you.

West slope, a little moist in spots, some springs, perhaps, running down to Spearfish Canyon.

Hills and plains, dry.

Spearfish Mountain and the powerline path.
