It’s anybody’s guess where Governor Kristi Noem will be this week. But Representative and Democratic candidate for Governor Jamie Smith will be out and about the great state of South Dakota taking questions from the people he would like to serve for the next four years.
Today Smith will be in Sioux Falls taking questions at the Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary gubernatorial candidates forum. As of Friday, Smith was the only gubernatorial candidate to accept the invitation. Lunch begins at 11:30; questions begin at noon. Only Rotarians and their invited guests may attend, but the civic-minded club will livestream and archive video of the discussion with Smith.
On Wednesday Smith will be in Brookings at South Dakota State University for two public fora in a row…which may be two more public fora than Kristi Noem has held through her entire campaign. Smith will be in Rotunda G to take questions from students from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Then the Democrat will take questions from the general public from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
It is perhaps remarkable that the Jackrabbits would welcome Smith given the enthusiasm with which Smith carried the Augustana Marching Choir banner and sang the Augie school song in the Vikings Day parade Saturday:
Happy Vikings Days!
Today, I had the pleasure of coming back to my alma mater to see so many friends and smiling faces. pic.twitter.com/RmSlQq7hXC

Ah, but Jackrabbits, like Smith, are diverse and inclusive folk. And Smith is an authentic and enthusiastic man of the people who, as we can see from that parade video and from his public schedule this week, actually enjoys interacting with his fellow South Dakotans.
Meanwhile, no word from Noem on how much money she raised in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday.
Representative Smith is a real estate guy so how might he address runaway sprawl in South Dakota? Yankton County was under a red flag warning yesterday. Urban sprawl, accelerated global warming and drought are reducing productivity on the remaining grasslands of the High Plains and Mountain West so if some Republicans are angry about conservation that means it’s the right thing to do.

Cory: “Meanwhile, no word from Noem on how much money she raised in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday.” -Who cares, Kristi Noem is becoming yesterday’s news.
Cory: “And Smith is an authentic and enthusiastic man of the people who, as we can see from that parade video and from his public schedule this week, actually enjoys interacting with his fellow South Dakotans.” -Yep, Jamie has always come off as sincere, down-to-earth and himself. I live in the Black Hills and many voters have told me that Jamie exudes authenticity and a person they can relate to. I don’t have to say anything about Jamie’s opponent, I think his authenticity and well grounded campaign speaks for its self.
Waiting for your Governor to invent another “BIG LIE”, as she did with poor Billie Sutton in the remaining two weeks of the campaign, is like waiting for the construction worker upstairs to take of the other boot.
BOHICA SD …..
Kristi Noem forgets that this race differs from 2018.
Kristi has a record now or LACK of and her piss poor record is on the ballot this year.
Imagine, Ms. P.h, how Mr. Smith lies awake at night awaiting that other construction worker boot to drop. It’s driving him towards being like those insaner than most. It has him nibbling the corners of his pillow, probably, at 3am, and then it ruins his breakfasts when he knows he has another day of dreading and awaiting.
You do bring out a great point, Ms. P.h. But an important part that you miss is that Mr. Smith really, REALLY likes his breakfasts.
grudznick can respect him for that.

Update: Smith will be in Watertown Tuesday for two public events:
From noon to 2 p.m., Smith will converse with voters at Gather Coffee, 122 E Kemp.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Smith will join his fellow Democratic candidates Brian Bengs, John Cunningham, Tim Azure, Jeff Barth, Tom Cool, and Kahden Mooney to speak with voters at the Elks Lodge, 600 W Kemp.
Does anyone know where Kristi will be tomorrow?
It’s “cool to vote Cool”*, and Mr. Mooney has a really neato name, so I expect he’ll get a bunch of votes on that alone and I don’t even know what he’s running for.
The Messrs. Bengs and Cunningham are just lost causes, as is Mr. Barth, who breathes hard whilst walking downhill. If I was a libbie, I write Mr. Barth off again this year too. Go all in with the Messrs. Cool and Mooney.
Like the cheese, Mr. Smith stands alone, apart from this other crowd of the fellows who want to be his road dogs. Mr. Smith is on a different strata, but he just hasn’t figured out if it’s a double stuffed oreo layer or a family stuffed tripled up layer of the strata.
* grudznick needs no royalties from the use of this slogan, only credit, which I’m sure Mr. Cool will give
Smith’s great advantage is that he is not Noem. He is not supported by the nut case down the block, with the Rebel Flag plastered on the side of his Ford 250, which you know he can’t afford. He’s got four home schooled kids he drags to Wal Mart in the middle of the day, to “study their math”, and changes churches every six months, not generally of his own volition. He claims the “cops are crooked” and is not particular in his racism..he hates universally. He’s heavily armed, at all times, and, at all times, is pissed.
Mr. Blundt, I am not sure your categorization of Mr. Smith changing churches every six months or claiming the “cops are corrked” is very accurate. This is coming from grudznick, myownself, and I’m pretty sure Mr. Smith is not heavily armed or (really angry) at all times. He seems a swell enough guy to me, by most accounts except yours, although he is misguided and underinformed.
He was on the Rosebud rez the other day, Go Jamie! & Good Luck.
Grudz, I take exception to that statement you just made. Yes, I support Jamie’s campaign, so, I’m a little biased in this regard. Smith is very informed and well-guided, in my humble opinion. He’s also himself, down-to-earth, natural, and seems to be a guy you could go out and have a beer with. Kristi seems EDGY, confrontational and some one I would want to avoid. Smith seems open to learn while Kristi seems closed-off and has her mind made up despite any new factual revelations that could detour her narratives. Smith also seems to be the kind of guy who would owe up to making a mistake and admitting it while Kristi , in her usual chameleon way, would not accept responsibility for messing up and find a way to blame someone else while changing her colors at the same time. At least, I’m going off from what I’ve witnessed in the past 12 years of Kristi’s shifting record of irresponsibility, deflecting blame and self-centeredness. All I can do as a citizen and voter is keep supporting other candidates and hope against all odds that just enough voters will finally wake-up and grow tired of Kristi’s nonsense.
Grudz–I believe you misread my submission. It was not critical of Smith, but of various Noem supporters.
I know that guy as well, Mr. Blundt. He can’t afford braces for his pre teen, but he can afford a new scope for his modified assault rifle. ‘Merca.
Guy- I agree. I consider Rep Smith to be just a swell guy. He does represent us well, dudn’t he? Like Loti said, he has truly visited with the people in every single county in SD. Including the reservations. He represents us all. I’m rooting right with you, Go Jamie! He doesn’t hang out with p(ssy grabbing predators* like Anti Kristi.
