Dark money or dark horse? Just yesterday one Michael Caalim filed a statement of organization for “South Dakotans for Fiscal Responsibility,” a new ballot question committee to, Caalim’s declaration of purpose, “Pass constitutional amendment C.”
Like the C-backing lobbyists who changed their group name to “South Dakota Coalition for Responsible Taxation,” Caalim appears to be using “responsibility” as code for “No More Taxes!” Good grief—can’t anti-taxers just be honest about their desire to starve democracy and the public good?
Caalim’s group doesn’t look like big money on paper. South Dakotans for Fiscal Responsibility claims as its address Apartment #3 at 615 North Minnesota in Sioux Falls, on the way up the big hill, across from the cop shop. Caalim filed the statement of organization last night at 7:59 p.m. CDT; he has not disclosed any finances yet. Caalim offers a Gmail address (to which I have submitted questions) but no apparent website or other online information. I’ll watch for a response and any supplemental campaign finance filings to see if Caalim is a lone wolf or another funnel for billionaire money to try wrecking South Dakota democracy.
Conservatism and political honesty are words that aspire to be known as an oxymoron.
This guy orders the best steak, complains about its cost and never leaves a tip.
