Ambassador Branstad Quits to Campaign for Trump; Foreign Policy Opening for Noem?

After overseeing the destruction of stable trade relations and other helpful bilateral ties between the United States and China, former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad is stepping down from his post as United States Ambassador to China to take on the much more important work of campaigning for the Dear Leader back home:

U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad will be back home in Iowa for good next month — and he’s expected to use his arrival on American soil to help President Trump win 2020.

The U.S. Embassy in China announced his departure on Monday. Branstad, who will step down in late October, has been praised for his work on the “rebalancing” of the U.S.-China relationship.

…Trump had hinted that Branstad would be playing a role in the last leg of his campaign. The ambassador’s son, Eric Branstad, is already working on the campaign.

Eric’s father is coming home from China because he wants to campaign,” Trump said during a call with Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, that was posted on social media.

Branstad started the role in June 2017 [Evie Fordham, “Branstad, US Ambassador to China, to Step Down, Jump on Campaign Trail,” Fox “News”, 2020.09.14].

Telling the Chinese that campaigning for Trump rather than staying at one’s post to work on vital trade relations and other diplomatic likely sends a clear message to China about how important the current administration considers open and honest dialogue with Beijing. The Chinese considered Branstad a friend with helpful experience and view his departure as a bit of a surprise.

So who might replace Branstad as Trump’s voice in China?

Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD) and Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) at the Great Wall of China, April 2014.
Kristi loved her last visit to China; might she return? Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD) and Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) at the Great Wall of China, April 2014.

Could the Chinese embassy be Governor Kristi Noem’s next step up the political ladder? South Dakota’s Governor lacks foreign policy experience; spending a couple years in China (with or without her travel pal Aaron Schock) could give her a gloss of credibility in speaking on international trade and diplomacy.

Of course, to spend any substantial time representing America in China, her Dear Leader will need to win reëlection. No wonder she’s away from her post campaigning around the country: her job prospects depend on keeping Trump in the White House!

How difficult is it to ship a horse to China?

Aaron Schock: The dude who resigned from Congress for a variety of reasons, but mainly for using campaign and taxpayer money to decorate his offices in the manner of “Downton Abbey”.

Also: Aaron voted for laws against LGBT folks. After resigning from Congress, he came out as gay himself.

No wonder he and Kristi are buddies. They share similar ethics and morals.

What happens when Noem Nothing tells the Chinese what they can do with their covid mask requirement?

Exactly which relationship did Braindead balance? Or drumpf, for that matter?

Would she get a television studio put into the Chinese embassy?

I was kind of wondering if Rounds would complete a new term since his wife is ill and allow Kristi to appoint herself to the Senate.

If Kristi didn’t like being away from home in Washington, how’s she going to like being away from home in China?

Braindead moved his whole family to China with the exception of Interpol fugitive son Eric who stayed stateside to work for drumpf.

  11. Aaron, maybe she could just send her video messages back to her faithful Fox followers via TikTok….

Kruel Kristi will never go to China. Not enough attention there.

The real reason the ambassador to China resigned his position via the chatter in industry is the mounting tension between the US and China over Trump’s trade wars and anti-China rhetoric. Industry suspects a cold war atmosphere and increased tensions based on President Trump’s actions of purposely attempting to start a war over baseless facts on trade.

Branstad was fired from his post, now we have no ambassador whatsoever in China. WTF is that? Trying to get trade deals for South Dakota ag producers and trump fires a long term personal friend of the Chinese leader Xi because he has to blame someone for his failure, that is the trumpian way and it seems acceptable to his brain dead followers.

Branstead may have been a lot of things that I personally do not like, but he did a great job in his position as ambassador to put as much through as could possibly be put through with the incapable trump administration or lack of.

Ag producers, here is a cold hard fact. There will be no deals until you pull your heads out and follow a leader that can actually make deals to support your products. That leadership is Democratic. Dump the republican failure, and go with a leader, Biden.
