Coronavirus Rising in Meade, Brown, Yankton Counties

The Department of Health says an individual who tested positive for coronavirus was at One-Eyed Jack’s Saloon all afternoon last Tuesday. Our state health officials gently recommend that everyone who was at the bar during the Rally that afternoon “monitor for symptoms” through August 25… a message that I’m sure will get out to all the now-dispersed rallygoers who will surely be checking the South Dakota State News website every day.

The Department of Health has issued no similar warning for Aberdeen’s Twist Cone, but Rallygoers who took a northeasterly detour might be faintly interested in knowing that one of Aberdeen’s brave ice-creameriers has joined Brown County’s coronavirus August surge:

Twist Cone has temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19, according to manager Jennifer Klitzke.

Despite having a positive test from an employee, the South Dakota Department of Health hasn’t issued a warning or notice.

“There is no danger to the public here because of the way we operate,” Klitzke said in a phone interview. “You have to be in a consistent air space with somebody for a time period, there’s no way anybody here would pass it on to the public.”

The South Dakota Department of Health and Twist Cone are working together, according to Klitzke [Trent Abrigo and Elisa Sand, “Positive Covid-19 Case Closes Twist Cone Temporarily,” Aberdeen American News via Hub City Radio, 2020.08.18].

Optimism isn’t preventing a coronavirus surge in Yankton County, either:

…Yankton County Emergency manager director, Paul Scherschligt… says within the last week there have been 40 new positive COVID-19 cases in the county.

“Seen that we went up 40 in the last six days, so we had a meeting yesterday with our COVID task force to find out if we needed to start implementing more restrictions or what’s going on, is there anything we need to be concerned about,” Scherschligt said.

For now, he says they are reminding people about the importance of wearing face masks and social distancing [Sarah McDonald, “Yankton County Sees a Surge in Covid-19 Cases,” KELO-TV, 2020.08.18].

Wonder how Wuhan, China is doing after they shut everything down?

“BEIJING (AP) — For more than two months, the 11 million residents of Wuhan endured a strict lockdown as coronavirus raced around the city in central China.

Now, some are letting loose en masse at rocking nighttime pool parties at a popular amusement park chain. The Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park reopened in late June, and the crowds have picked up this month.

Wuhan was the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in China and saw the most deaths. The city and most of the surrounding province was locked down from late January to early April. People couldn’t leave or enter the city and were mostly restricted to their homes.” Associated Press 8.19.20

Looks like if you take stuff seriously, you find success. That used to be a motto we lived by here in the US of A, but we then turned selfish and arrogant…to the point that it is killing us. Please proceed China and show us how to make things work here.

One new milestone today in body count….

    United States
    Coronavirus Cases:
    5,692,464
    Deaths:
    176,101

Tomorrow most of us will wake up and this still won’t disappear. Speaking personally, I believe drumpf is BSC and a pathological lying, know nothing.

Salon had this to say about Sturgis …. The event is scheduled to bring around 700,000 people – a marked 200,000-person increase from the prior year. Last year’s smaller charity ride “had many characteristics of a superspreading event,” according to a report by the IZA Institute of Labor Economics, which noted that the rally “generated public health costs of approximately $12.2 billion.” The rally, they estimated, may have resulted in the infection of about 250,000 Americans nationwide.

At the time, Noem dismissed the report, saying that it “isn’t science; it’s fiction.” She added: “Under the guise of academic research, this report is nothing short of an attack on those who exercised their personal freedom to attend Sturgis.”

According to AP News, Noem – who has repeatedly flouted public health guidelines and even criticized governors who heeded them – is set to make an appearance at the event, which starts on Friday and is expected to generate $800 million in revenue, per the state’s Department of Tourism.

800 mil in revenues versus 12.2 billion in healthcare costs estimated from last year’s debacle. Quite a tradeoff in th wrong direction.

mfi “800 mil in revenues versus 12.2 billion in healthcare costs estimated from last year’s debacle. Quite a tradeoff in th wrong direction.” This is called republican dollar cost averaging. How it works is that it puts money into the pockets of those that deserve it less for being deadwood, not the city either, for short term gains. A sugar high.

Barring a miracle, this year’s delta healthcare costs are likely to be significantly higher than last. year’s covid costs. Unless drumpf can make delta disappear like he did covid.
