Dem Chair Fora in Yankton March 2, Aberdeen March 20

Democrats are apparently serious about hearing from their candidates for state party chair before electing them. After a forum attended by all six candidates in Brookings on February 9 (forum video on Facebook here) and a chair candidates’ forum in Rapid City last weekend that I hear was attended by incumbent chair Ann Tornberg and challengers John Kennedy Claussen and Alison Renville, two more opportunities to hear from the candidates have popped up in Yankton and Aberdeen:

  • Yankton: Yankton County Democrats will gather this Saturday, March 2, at noon at the Big River Burrito Company, 100 Douglas Street to hear from and grill chair candidates. The Yankton Press & Dakotan reports that chair candidates Tom Cool and John Kennedy Claussen will attend, while vice-chair candidate Larry Lucas will speak for Tornberg. (Remember: no gambling allowed yet!)
  • Aberdeen: Brown County Democrats have moved their March meeting up a week, to Wednesday, March 20, to give the chair candidates a chance to make a final pitch before the March 23 central committee meeting and election in Oacoma. BC Dems will host chair candidates at the K.O. Lee Public Library at 7 p.m.

Chair candidates include Tornberg, Cool, Claussen, Renville, John Cunningham, and Paula Hawks.

Democrats, the next time the SDGOP tries to control women’s bodies, like Frantic Flaccid Fool is, remind them of these words spoken by Rep. Kelly Townsend, R-AZ:

“Dearest friends and people of Arizona, it seems we are prepared to give up our liberty, the very sovereignty of our body, because of measles,” wrote the five-term lawmaker.

“I read yesterday that the idea is being floated that if not enough people get vaccinated, then we are going to force them to,” she continued. “The idea that we force someone to give up their liberty for the sake of the collective is not based on American values but rather, Communist.”

The SDDP has been doing so much “winning “ I’m getting tired of “winning.”
