Novstrup Reminded of Transparency Promise During Crackerbarrel Discourse on Secret GOP Caucuses

Remember this flyer from the 2018 campaign?

"tested Trusted Transparent Team"—Perry Novstrup Dennert campaign flyer, fall 2018.
“Tested Trusted Transparent Team”—Perry/Novstrup/Dennert campaign flyer, fall 2018.

Transparent, the flyer for incumbent District 3 legislators Al Novstrup and Drew Dennert and the aspiring Carl Perry averred.

Now that all three Republicans are serving and bunking together in Pierre, one of them seems to have trouble remembering that transparency is a good thing. That one legislator got reminded of his claim to transparency in the middle of his closing speech at today’s Aberdeen crackerbarrel with this very flyer:

Senator Novstrup: …”We have caucuses, and we’re supposed to kinda keep things a little quiet as to what went on in there…. that’s not supposed to be public, Carl….”

Representative Perry [holding up campaign flyer]: “I’m into transparent.”

Senator Novstrup: “You’re into transparent? Ha ha ha ha. Wonderful, Carl. Anyway…” [Sen. Al Novstrup and Rep. Carl Perry, District 3 Republicans, closing remarks at first 2019 Aberdeen Chamber Crackerbarrel, Aberdeen, South Dakota, 2019.01.26].

Off topic. The matriarch of my South Dakota family passed away in Watertown this week. Peg McNulty, at 89. A lifelong Democrat. Aunt Peg was Codington County Treasurer for 26 continuous years. She was so honored, honest and unbeatable that Peg ran unapposed most cycles. (I thank my new copy of South Dakota Magazine, every issue to her). A true S.D. liberal treasure. ❤️

  3. Condolences, Porter

I’m sorry she’s gone Porter, but glad you are part of such an illustrious family.

Nostrap is apparently a blatant liar. What a slimy little racist. District 3, you need to a human being with morals and decency. At least Carl Perry seems to have a conscience. Nostrap thinks being caught in his lie is funny. He’d be perfect in the current WH.

Transparency? Like allowing two Trans people to have children? Now that is progress!

District #3 voters, what the bleepity bleep? Novstrup just laughs at the “transparency” word. Laughs! Next up? “Will you start weeding out corruption in Pierre?” Novstrup response, ” ha ha ha ha ho ho ho ho hee hee”

    Disgrace

Porter — so sorry for your loss.

    That’s pretty good Mike.😁

    What Dana P said.

If Corey had his way Novstrup would have to take pictures of his bathroom times among other “transparency” desires…

Ah, the return of the Pearvertson. How’s things at the Mini-Mart? Keep reading the headlines on those tabloids. You’re a great source of pertinent information.

  11. Steve, that’s just rude and false. I said exactly not that in my webcam blog post.

But again, Steve, why talk so much about me when we could talk about elected officials’ statements? In the original post, it’s Carl Perry calling for transparency and reminding Al Novstrup that he claimed to be for transparency as well during the election. What do you think, Steve, of Perry’s commitment to his campaign slogan and Novstrup’s laughing at his own slogan? Do you defend Senator Novstrup’s keeping secrets from constituents?

  12. Play that Novstrup laugh on loop in 2020 alongside “We practice nepotism.”

I like your last suggestion Cory.

Pearson, quit acting like a 3rd grader and contribute like an adult or shut up.

I’ve been waiting for someone in District 3 to be disgusted with Nostrap for laughing in their faces like that. Very disappointing that they don’t seem to mind.

  15. Debbo, I have a hard time imagining any Democrat being able to openly laugh at his own promise of transparency and not catch holy heck from his fellow Democrats.
