Rhoden, Like Russell, Must Withdraw from Legislative Race Before Saturday Convention Nominations

Last updated on 2018-06-21

Hey, Larry, you big stud! Call Shantel by Friday or lose Kristi forever!

As a friendly fellow South Dakotan and defender of law and order, I remind Representative Larry Rhoden of his legal obligation to his constituents and to his new patron (wait—we should say matron, right?) Kristi Noem. Yes, we’re all excited Kristi just picked the hottest dish in Union Center to decorate her gubernatorial cake. But Larry, in your excitement, don’t forget that you’re still a candidate for reëlection to District 29 House. Before some proud Republican delegate can officially enter your name into consideration for nomination to the post of lieutenant governor, you must formally withdraw your Legislative candidacy, due to South Dakota’s ban on being a candidate for more than one office.

Senator Lance Russell, still a candidate for District 30 Senate, must do the same thing to pursue the GOP convention nomination for Attorney General.

The election of nominees for statewide constitutional offices takes place this Saturday, starting at 10 a.m., at the Pierre Ramkota. Rhoden and Russell must submit their withdrawals to the Secretary of State by the end of business Friday. As of 4:25 p.m. Central today, neither Rhoden nor Russell is listed as having withdrawn his Legislative candidacy.

Larry Rhoden doesn’t withdraw from elections. By definition he is from the center of the Union and all elections must swirl around him.

Grudz, I must say, that was clever, witty, funny even. Are you taking new meds? 😋
