Remember how Dusty Johnson said last month that we’d see no Farm Bill this year?
Yesterday, Congresswoman Kristi Noem tweeted her thanks to Donald Trump for supporting farmers and ranchers:
Fat lot of good that support did. This morning, Noem and the U.S. House failed to pass the Farm Bill:
The House farm bill died in a vote on the floor Friday 198-213, and it all came down to a fight over immigration.
The passage of the farm bill was far from certain Friday morning. The $868 billion legislative package that subsidizes agriculture and funds food assistance programs has been mired in partisan fighting for weeks, losing support across the board.
…Knowing the farm bill will need as much support as it can get, Republican lawmakers used the bill as leverage to make a separate demand on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Somewhat surprisingly, that request came from both conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus and moderates like California Rep. Jeff Denham [Tara Golshan, “A House Revolt over Immigration Just Killed the Farm Bill—for Now,” Vox, 2018.05.18].
Rep. Noem responds by tweeting a 2013 Politico article and saying, “Let’s not forget we’ve been through this before on the Farm Bill. We have to get it done, and we will.”
Yes, Kristi, good reminder, two and a half weeks before the primary, that you have failed twice to deliver a Farm Bill on time. Please keep reminding all voters of that fact. I’m sure Marty Jackley will help.
Was Noem actually in Washington, D.C. to vote on the farm bill or was she driving around South Dakota taking selfies?
She was there, Roger… which may make her failure all the more pointed. On the floor, able to press the flesh and twist arms, and still she gets nothing done.
It looks like the Freedom Caucus has learned the lesson taught to the Democrats: vague promises on immigration reform do not warrant helping the GOP move its policy agenda forward. As the President promised/made a DACA deal – then later reneged – the conservative GOP will not get burned by the same ruse.
Great radio spot this morning CH
Well done
I imagine it will eventually pass to us farmers detriment. I don’t know what the final substance of it was but all along it was touted as being “more of the same”. Across the board farm incomes have declined under “the same”. All cost’s are up while returns have been stagnant.
You don’t get a farm bill, Clyde, but you do get a trade war.
Noem entirely useless…. fixed it for you
(T! Thanks for listening!)
Kathleen – thanks for fixing it.
Here’s what happens with 45th’s & Noem’s ag policy — China cancels US soybean orders and triples order from Russia.

Democrats and some Republicans chose illegal aliens over US farmers.
The US Farmer gets it Cory.
John,
Do you think the Countries buying Soybeans from Russia will now buy from the US since they can’t buy from Russia now?
Today on Facebook Noem shared an Argus Leader column on the farm bill blaming Democrats for the republican failed bill.
“Noem Mostly Useless.”
I heard that’s going to be the title of her political biography.
Horsehockey, Jason. The farmers and CAFO managers hire all those immigrant workers and are clamoring for Trump to quit cutting off their labor supply.
