This could be interesting: a new progressive (opposition? resistance?) group is coalescing in Aberdeen. The Brown County Progressives for Change popped up on Facebook a couple weeks ago. The admins are my Aberdeen neighbors Jayden and Joshua Halsey and Democratic District 3 House candidate Justin Roemmick. The group professes nonpartisanship and openness to “individuals from all walks of life, and political affiliation, to come together to discuss ideas and opinions of change for Brown County and South Dakota.”
BCPC is holding its first meeting this Saturday morning, May 19, at 11:30 at 615 Riverside Drive here in Aberdeen. If a tenth of the 138 Facebook denizens who have joined the group come out to the first meeting, we could have a pretty strong discussion and planning session for practical political action.
One of the most direct and productive progressive changes we could make would be electing a whole new slate of District 3 legislators. Roemmick, Brooks Briscoe, and I will be among the local Democratic candidates at the Brown County Democratic Party’s 2018 Campaign Kick-Off. We’re getting together Wednesday, May 23, at 6 p.m. at the Americinn, up the street from Menard’s. We’re letting folks in for free for snacks, speeches, and socializing, but, just like Dakota Free Press, if you like what you hear, throw some money in the Tip Jar, and help us Legislative and county candidates get out the good word!
