Job Growth Slows from Six-Year Pace Under Trump

An AP Fact Check notes that Donald Trump is falling a bit short of his promise to be the “greatest jobs producer that God ever created.” Job-growth data, including projections for last November and December, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that job growth slowed in 2017:

Year U.S. Job Growth (thousands)
2007 1,147
2008 –3,567
2009 –5,068
2010 1,061
2011 2,091
2012 2,142
2013 2,302
2014 2,998
2015 2,713
2016 2,240
2017 2,055

From 2011 through 2016, average U.S. job growth was 2.414 million. More new people went to work during each of the last six years of the Obama Presidency than went to work in 2017 while Donald Trump pretended to run the country.
