Noem Votes to Block Analysis of ACA-Repeal Deficit Impact; Death Looms

Spinning gossamer metaphors about life rafts and boats, mythologist Mike Rounds has deemed the still figmentary (or at best fragmentary) Republican health care replacement plan “Real Care.” (2020 challengers, deem yourselves “Real Senator.”)

But fellow fabulist Kristi Noem doesn’t want us to know the Real Cost of repealing the Affordable Care Act. The rules package approved Tuesday by the House instructs the Congressional Budget Office to estimate fiscal impacts of new legislation over the next ten years but exempts ACA repeals and reforms from that instruction.

In other words, the new Republican rules package specifically instructs the CBO not to say how much it would cost to repeal Obamacare.

It is worth pointing out that the last time the CBO did a cost analysis of repealing Obamacare, in 2015, they found that it would increase the deficit by $353 billion. That is important, because Republicans are hoping to repeal much of Obamacare using budget reconciliation, which requires any legislation that increases the deficit to expire after 10 years [Matthew Chapman, “House GOP Appallingly Votes to Conceal Cost of Obamacare Repeal to Taxpayers,” Shareblue, 2017.01.05].

ACA repeal will also saddle states and hospitals with over a trillion dollars in uncompensated care.

Noem, Rounds, and the GOP will also want us to pay no attention to how much repealing the ACA will cost in lives. Repeal Obamacare, and 29.8 million Americans lose their health coverage. Lacking health coverage makes working-age Americans 40% more likely to die. More uninsured people means more dead people.

Mike Rounds said on public radio Tuesday that there are no “death panels” in the Affordable Care Act. But there is a death panel: Mike Rounds, Kristi Noem, John Thune, and the Republicans who want to kill the ACA and, by inevitable extension, thousands of Americans.

Don says the taxpayers will pay for the completion of the wall that Bill Clinton started all those years ago. My question would be, is this at the request of Mexico to keep us out of there? They were supposed to pay for it, but now, it will be up to the taxpayers to build the fence to keep us from crossing as time goes on. Well played Mexico, well played.

Rounds is the master of deception. Remember his 2010 plan for education. Since it was an eight year plan he blew through the first four years just on the promise that there was a plan. We really never saw anything come of it. In the end they used the excuse that they ran out of money, well not by spending on education.

I cannot wait to see what “Trump-care” is.

WHAT REPUBLICANS ARE TALKING ABOUT — We’re hearing more and more from rank-and-file Republicans that they are afraid they’ll never be able to insure as many people as Obamacare does — and they all, to a person, worry about the steep political consequences. – POLITICO
WHAT SENATE DEMOCRATS ARE SAYING – One week into the new Congress and Trump’s Washington and here is the narrative they’re pushing so far: “Trump is going to be in a constant battle against irrelevance, and he is already losing. Who knows if Trump understands what’s happening in Congress, but if he does, he has got to be upset by how weak he already seems.” – POLITICO

Whatever replaces Obamacare will be called Trumpcare. We will then have the opportunity to compare Obamacare’s results with Trumpcare’s results. I don’t think the GOP Party is going to like the results of the comparison.

The New Republican Party, closed door meetings, attempts to subvert ethics oversight, stacking cabinet hearings so no one gets a REAL hearing, … The list just goes on and on. I was a registered Republican, once, but now can not distance myself far enuf. I don’t know what you call this, but it sure isn’t GOVERNING!
