I love Sioux Falls Democratic Forum, not just because they sponsor this blog (thank you!), but, far more importantly, because they offer a great opportunity for interested citizens to engage a variety of politicians and thinkers (not always mutually exclusive categories) in questions and conversation.
Alas, according to the South Dakota Democratic Party, today’s announcement of the Democratic candidate who will challenge John Thune for his U.S. Senate seat will not be such an opportunity:
A South Dakota Democrat will announce their candidacy for U.S. Senate Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Democratic Forum of Sioux Falls weekly lunch starting at 12:00 PM. The event will be hosted at the Sioux Falls VFW.
…There will be no question and answer session after the announcement. Limited interview availability will be offered after the event. Please contact press@sddp.org for more details [South Dakota Democratic Party, media advisory, 2016.02.18].
Ms. or Mr. Candidate (widely rumored to be Jay Williams of Yankton, but as yet not substantiated), whoever you are, I hope you’ll change your mind by lunchtime and take a question or ten from an audience eager to boost your challenge to our do-nothing U.S. Senator.
Let’s be clear: this guy is running to be the nominee.
This unfortunately will be a very public high speed trainwreck!
I can’t wait to find out who is running. I hope it’s someone who wants to cut deficits.
Hey Lynn, how much prison time is about right for someone who is trying to feel better?
Save your time and energy, Thune is a lock!
Career Warshington politicians should be challenged lest their arses become too comfortable in their government chairs.
Sing for your supper, Sen. Thune. Tell us in your low energy way how having you as the cardboard cutout behind Sen. McConnell brings home the conservative bacon for South D.
Powers at the Dump Site is peeing all over himself in anticipation of this announcement.
