Rep. Noem Tired of Losing Gov’s Race, Invites Ag Sec Perdue for School Lunch in Brandon

Congresswoman Kristi Noem appears to be getting tired of her gubernatorial campaign. She hasn’t thumbed out a happy campaign tweet for over two days. I hear she missed the planned debate coin toss at the end of tonight’s 6 p.m newscast and thus ceded two minutes of prime air time that should have been pure sporting yuckety-yuck to uninterrupted promotion time for a Democratic opponent on whom she just can’t get a handle.

And Thursday, she’s polishing the last crown she gets to wear to play Congresswoman with Trump Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue to “rally around school lunch reforms” in Brandon:

Rep. Kristi Noem, e-mail invitation, 2018.10.22.
Rep. Kristi Noem, e-mail invitation to school lunch event, 2018.10.22. Event takes place Thursday, October 25, 10:30 a.m., Brandon Valley Intermediate School. RSVP here.

Or is that school brunch? Rep. Noem continues to lack a sense of school timing. After hosting a “parent-teacher conference” at 2 p.m. on a workday when no working teachers could attend, she’s now hosting a lunchtime event at 10:30 a.m., almost two hours before some of the kids eat.

Well, at least this time, she’s managing to find a school building.

Of course, since Congresswoman Noem is advertising this event via her official U.S. House e-mail, using her formal federal title, and appearing alongside a chief official of a federal agency, we may assure Brandon kids, teachers, and parents that this event will include no campaigning for state political office whatsoever.

My understanding is the Pootiepublican plan is less food for fewer students. School lunch deform.

  2. TH 2018-10-23 22:39

Brandon Valley is the same school district that took a child’s tray away from them and threw it in the trash in front of them for an overdue lunch balance. They also think it is a good idea to stamp a child’s hand with a $ sign to remind the parents to pay. Their food service manager even came to the Legislature to defend their practice!

Does she need the Sec. of Ag to tell her hungry kids should eat or to tell her that it’s not ok to shame kids in-front of their peers? Hopefully somebody will donate their meal!

  3. Lynn Ryan 2018-10-23 22:51

Similar to her “town hall” meeting in Madison at the Persona plant. Not a town and not a hall.

  4. Jason 2018-10-23 23:19

    Debbo,

Did you forget Obama is actually the one that reduced meal portions for kids?

    Debbo fails again.

  5. jerry 2018-10-23 23:38

Michelle made it all better, what a beautiful beautiful woman!

  6. jerry 2018-10-23 23:43

Perdue should be about as welcome as and std for his participation in the tariffs. Like Colonel Sanders was to chickens.

  7. mike from iowa 2018-10-24 07:11

The Troll fails again. Michelle wanted children to eat healthier meals and cut out the fast foods. In case you hadn’t noticed, Troll, America has an obesity epidemic.

Another side project your right wing buds are working on is cutting out free breakfasts and lunches. Apparently, the wingnut consensus is kids starve better if they aren’t fed at school, too.

  8. Rorschach 2018-10-24 07:32

Who can forget Ronald Reagan trying to classify ketchup as a vegetable for school lunches? That was a good one!

  9. Porter Lansing 2018-10-24 08:31

Jason … I’ll school you like I schooled OS. New York Times and Washington Post = valid newspapers
New York Post and Washington Times = invalid, fake newspapers. (You see what they did there? The fake papers turned the names around to fool those not schooled in journalism.)
Your article was written in a paper owned by Korea’s Moonies for goodness sake. Learn something about your sources before you post foolishness.

  10. OldSarg 2018-10-24 09:02

Porter, let me help you out on something: You do not make the decision on what is or isn’t fake or real. You do not make the decision on who is elected or not elected. You do not make any decisions on how tax money is collected or spent. You do not live in South Dakota. You abandoned this state as I am sure you abandoned your family. You are a narcissist. You only think of yourself and what you can gain from any party that is elected to lead. This is why you are so unhappy. You can change things by bringing God back into your life and asking for the forgiveness of your family. learn to love again. Hug an old person or a kid. Do something kind for someone. You do not have to be like this 24/7. You can change. When you feel you have rectified your issues come back to South Dakota and we can sit down and talk like friends. I will smile and greet you with my outreached hand. I know there is still goodness within your heart. Come back to a life of love and happiness. We would welcome you.

    Awwwwwwww …… thanks, pal. ☮

Paytroll gets paid on Friday..via Moscow. Hey, anyone remember this and who said it? ” ““We are going to fix our inner cities and rebuild our highways, bridges, tunnels, airports, schools, hospitals. We’re going to rebuild our infrastructure, which will become, by the way, second to none. And we will put millions of our people to work as we rebuild it.”
How is that working? How is that infrastructure trillion dollar deal working for South Dakota? NOem, what have you done in the last two years on that?

Under NOem, our deficit has exploded (with nothing to show for it) and in the “second to none” country, we cannot account for over 1,000 American citizens in Florida due to the hurricane.

  13. o 2018-10-24 09:27

Maybe they can all just have a heaping helping of ketchup — as the Reagan administration tried to classify that as a vegetable. #MAGA

  14. Buckobear 2018-10-24 09:32

Maybe a $100 contribution to get your picture taken with Mr Chicken??

  15. o 2018-10-24 09:35

    1) It seems the Noem strategy is to invoke candidates she WISHED she were running against: Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders . . . instead of facing who she is actually running against: Sen. Sutton.
    2) School lunch issues are handled (at least at the fed) in the Farm Bill. Rep. Noem’s inability to ever get a timely passage of that bill and her abandonment of that committee do not seem like the things her campaign should be reminding voters of with this photo op.

  16. OldSarg 2018-10-24 09:44

Did any of you actually watch the Noem/Sutton debate last night?

  17. OldSarg 2018-10-24 09:54

I watched most of it and came away rather disappointed with both candidates. I thought Noem was too “down pat” or rehearsed with her responses. I thought Sutton came across as trying to appear as a republican. When Sutton started complaining that Noem took corporate money and Billie has as well is was a bit disingenuous. When he talked about him not supporting gay marriage I was shocked. When Billie came out saying he didn’t support Bernie I then thought “what if everything else he said was a lie as well?” I know he wants to get elected and I thought he would have been a good candidate but when they lie about something that everyone else has already shown he actually said you have to think he is either stupid of just a flat out liar. I hope he is just stupid because being a liar would make him look even worse.

  18. Porter Lansing 2018-10-24 10:11

Old Psych Ward … I watched it all, because I have more money invested in SD than you’ll ever have. Billie didn’t tell one lie but he exposed the Associated Press fact checks on Noem’s campaign ads. AP says she’s a big fat liar. Who’d a thunk it?
Here’s an article to bolster women’s rights in your “hate state”. Hope you have a great day, pal.

    Porter,

Billie said he supported Bernie and liked his ideas. Last night he said he didn’t support Bernie’s ideas. Which is the truth?

I’m glad you are so obviously wealthy. It must be wonderful, knowing the vast sums of someone of your stature controls, to be able to help others. You would think, being as wealthy as you are, you could afford to live in South Dakota, the state you “claim” to love. Thanks for the article on how to continue to kill the future of our Nation. You are still in my prayers brother. Come back home. We will toast to your future of prosperity and wealth. You will see no envy from me. I am happy being who I am with what I have. peace

  20. Porter Lansing 2018-10-24 12:27

Os’ski … Obviously, what Billie said is the truth and the phony, doctored video clip is a distortion of what Candidate Sutton believes. (Any 8 second truncated video clip lifted from a 45 minute talk is a devised attempt at portraying the candidate in a way other than what was intended. aka Crooked Politics by Noem)
I’m not that wealthy but it was time to shut your fat mouth about my legitimacy in SD politics. Every American has a right to protect their investments.

  21. Jason 2018-10-24 12:44

    Porter,

Why are you not asking Cory about it?

    Cory was there.

The answer is you are lying.

The best part is cory is not coming to your defense.

  22. jerry 2018-10-24 13:12

What is “it”? No one knows, because “it” does not exist. Define “it” because it only makes more sense in your context by adding bullsh in front of “it”

  23. bearcreekbat 2018-10-24 13:14

Jason, when you frequently point out claims that Obama, or one of the Clintons, or some other democrat did something that Noem or Trump is now doing, that raises a couple questions. Are you a big fan of Obama or the Clintons are saying what they did is okay so it is okay for Noem or the Trump administration to carry out the same great policy? Or are you a critic of Obama and the Clintons and are saying the policy is bad, hence Noem and the Trump administration are just as bad as Obama or the Clintons?

Here you say Obama cut student lunches. Are you saying what a great idea that was so it is good that Noem now also wants to cut children’s lunches? Or are you saying that it was a bad idea for Obama and that it is a bad idea for Noem to continue or add to that policy of cutting lunch aid because it harms kids?

Your comments are confusing – do you think it is good or bad idea for Noem to seek to cut student lunches, and why?

  24. bearcreekbat 2018-10-24 13:43

Porter, I am going to make one off topic comment here to speculate about a comment by OS since he repeats it so often, and I doubt that Cory will do a thread on the topic. Take it for what it is worth as I intend to say no more after this comment on the topic, unless encouraged by Cory, hisownself.

As in this thread, OS often makes comments that claim you or others are not from SD and should shut up. This reflects his stunted growth and high school thinking.

While spending time during my formative teenage years in Spearfish during the 1960’s, I learned that many Spearfish teenage boys were quick to challenge boys from surrounding towns to fights or races or what have you. There was some sort of competition among teens with kids who lived outside the town. The same was true when we Spearfish teens ventured to Belle Fourche or Sturgis or Deadwood. The teenagers in those town viewed our presence as a threat and would just as quickly challenge us to fights, etc.

I also spent time in Minneapolis during these formative teenage years and big city life was not that much different. Kids from one suburb were typically in competition with kids from another suburb or a different part of Minneapolis.

Perhaps it is a result of how local sports competition instills hostile attitudes toward those kids on a different team in a different location. Likewise, military service generally confirmed that identifying and hating the “other” could be a matter of life and death.

Fortunately, most kids I knew grew out of these attitudes, especially when attending college and meeting new friends from other owns and communities.

Unfortunately, such attitudes have been to easy to rekindle in many of our friends and neighbors. And it seems that those kids that were not lucky enough to experience bonding with kids from different towns or cultures in college, or who suffered trama, or saw their companions hurt, at the hands of “others” during military life, may be more susceptible to such juvenile irrational focusing on where a person is from, rather than the content of her or his character or quality of her or his ideas.

Trumpists, in particular, have found a way to rekindle that childish behavior in so many of our neighbors. Given that, I am not particularly surprised when folks like OS reject other people and their ideas by declaring these people the undesirable “other” because they live, or were born, somewhere different than OS lives or was born.

  25. Porter Lansing 2018-10-24 14:00

Well said, Bear. OS was a military brat and had a dysfunctional childhood as such. He certainly got labeled an outsider at every new base he was moved to, so calling me what he was labeled is a way to salve his pain. He’s got good character.

  26. leslie 2018-10-24 14:53

Sarge, u raise red herrings to distract from truth co-opting the thread. U Bolviate Loyalty And Belief decisions Instead Of Truth. U Troll Here. There is no decision to truth. Lesbian Leslian. Misogynist. You demonstrate deplorable-ness daily. Ugh. Leave here. You Add Nothing. Troll/bot.

  27. OldSarg 2018-10-24 15:54

Porter, yep I was a military brat and also served in two branches but in addition I also graduated from high school here, attended college here, owned a business here, still live here, pay taxes here and vote here. You do not.

You have no say in our state business thus your opinion does not count. I know this is hard for you but if you do not reside here what happens here is not your business. You can move back and we would welcome you. We are a friendly state. If your goal is to undermine one of the most fiscally balanced states without the crime or racism of the place you live then don’t come back. If you decide to come back in peace I will greet you as a friend. Your choice.

  28. leslie 2018-10-24 15:59

More so vital for SD than elsewhere, 3 people in the nation own more wealth than 160 million people. Most of them have NO RETIREMENT SAVINGS while Mitch McConnell will cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and again for the 100th time, repeal ACA. K. Vanden Hueval, “GOP HEALTHCARE CON”, The Nation, Oct 2018.

Do Not re-elect Noem and make her our Governor. Rounds, pal Daugaard, and Thune and Noem voted against ACA health care and Medicaid Expansion AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY for all citizens and caused premiums to soar.

  29. mike from iowa 2018-10-24 16:28

OldSnakeinthegrass sure has a ‘high’ opinion of himself. I thought I was smelling cafos.

  30. mike from iowa 2018-10-24 16:32

One more thing, OldSlanderousNorthernMississippian, this is CORY”S blog and CORY”S rules. He gets to decide whose opinions are valued and accepted and allowed. Not you, troll tool.

  31. Debbo 2018-10-24 17:28

This line in Cory’s post, “Congresswoman Kristi Noem appears to be getting tired of her gubernatorial campaign.” caused it to occur to me, would Noem pull a Palin and resign partway through her term? I’d say doubtful, but it’s surprising that she gave up DC for Pierre. I guess amongst Pootiepublicans you do as you’re told.

  32. OldSarg 2018-10-24 17:35

mike, are you Cory’s policeman now?

  33. Jenny 2018-10-24 17:53

Noem team has sent out a huge mailing claiming she is the only real prolife candidate. Not surprised they’re about Sutton not really being pro-life, such desperation.

Debbo, there is another SD gubernatorial debate tonight on SDPT that starts at 7, I’m sure it’ll be livestreamed.

  34. Jenny 2018-10-24 17:54

Not surprised they’ re lying about Sutton not being pro-life (forgot the lying)

  35. Porter Lansing 2018-10-24 18:05

OldPsychWard … I’ll make you a deal. I’ll continue doing and saying everything I want to and you go to the VA and get some meds so it doesn’t bother you so much you have a heart attack. See. It’s not so hard to compromise.

  36. Porter Lansing 2018-10-24 18:59

It’s not surprising Associated Press fact checked Noem as a big fat liar. Where I grew up we all knew you couldn’t trust people from Castlewood to tell the truth. Nothing’s changed. Any thinking person who watched the debate knows Billie cleaned her clock. She’s just a mean Bee.

  37. jerry 2018-10-24 19:06

Porter, but you do not know if the Russian is here or not. Like me, he gives no name to fact check. What you and I both know though is that he is a troll on the paytroll. A Russian lover like Dirty Johnson.

  38. Porter Lansing 2018-10-24 19:22

    Jerry ✔

  39. Fairburn 2018-10-24 23:24

OldSarge wrote that another person posting a comment doesn’t live in SD right now, “thus your opinion does not count.”

Say what? Does that mean OlDSarge doesn’t believe in the value of information or analysis unless it comes from a person who happens to live near him/her? What is the exact distance from you at which information no longer has validity?

I guess this is why the term “narrow mind” was coined. smh

  40. Debbo 2018-10-25 19:08

Fairburn, that “You don’t live here” trope is what OS uses when he’s got nothing else– no facts, no pertinent information, nothing relevant. You’ll note he uses “You don’t live here” often. 😊
