Send Kristi Your Data! Says Email in Terms More Subtle

A reliable friend received this e-mail from Kristi Noem’s campaign team this morning:

Noem for Governor campaign e-mail, 2017.02.23.
Noem for Governor campaign e-mail, 2017.02.23.

After one mention that “we’re missing,” Kylee’s pitch refers to “your vote file.” CLick on the big blue linky button labeled “Complete My Voter Profile”, and up comes a page under GOP digital consultant Ryan Cassin‘s umbrella OurCauseOurVoice.com website inviting you to provide your data “to stay active.”

“Stay active”? Boy, I sure want to keep my voter registration active! I’d better fill this in right away….

See the trick there? It’s not quite phishing—there’s no blatant fraud, no explicit claim to be an official voter registration site, just a simple pitch that, read quickly, as most e-mails are, could induce a lot of people to enter their name/address/phone/e-mail out of concern that they need to keep their voter registration file active.

Do Republicans do anyting above board? From GW Bush’s hanginig chads to Cheney’s Iraq war that will pay for itself to death panels to voter registration purging, closed polling places and strict ID laws, to Benghazi, to… I won’t even start on the current DC occupant.
