Polls show Donald Trump failing to inspire confidence on taxes (including tariffs), immigration, the war against Iran, gasoline prices, and pretty much every other issue. Trump’s failure may wreck Republicans’ midterm hopes, but far more importantly, Trump is wrecking the world’s confidence in the United States of America… to the benefit of Communist China:
Faced with Trump’s erratic behavior, China has been one of the few countries to choose to strike back when hit — whether through the standoff over rare earths or its complaint to the World Trade Organization over Trump’s unilateral tariffs — while at the same time calling for diplomacy and multilateralism and presenting itself as a bastion of stability. If Trump announces a war, Beijing later emerges as the behind-the-scenes architect of the newly reached truce.
China appears to be capitalizing on the Trump era. In this fragmented world, where old alliances are faltering, China surpassed the United States in global approval ratings in 2025, with an average of 36% of people approving of Chinese leadership, compared to 31% for the United States, according to a recent Gallup global poll [Guillermo Abril, “China Takes Advantage of Declining US Credibility to Improve Its Global Image,” El País, 2026.04.19
But making China look good isn’t just a Trump thing; Republicans have been working on it with their Presidential picks throughout this century:
Although both nations have low approval ratings, this is the largest lead the polling firm has recorded for China in nearly 20 years. Previously, the country had only surpassed the United States during the George W. Bush administration (2001-2009) and Trump’s first term (2017-2021) [Abril, 2026.04.19].
For all of George W. Bush’s faults, the world could at least count on him to stick with America’s allies. Donald Trump is ripping up our alliances and making our closest friends think they might do better to throw in with China.
Make America Great Again isn’t what the Trump Party is doing. It’s what we’ll have to spend the next generation doing to repair the destruction caused by Trump’s termination of the Pax Americana.
让美国再次伟大—Ràng měiguó zàicì wěidà!
If Trump takes Cuba China is empowered to take Taiwan.
And congressmen, including South Dakota’s very own, Thune, Rounds, and Johnson are letting him. Even apparently supporting him.
Let this be known South Dakota voters.
The only thing that Trump has done right is to put Sir Jacob Epstein’s Churchill bust in the oval office. I look at that everytime the narcissist is on talking. I’m sure he relates it to his good buddy Epstein but whatever. It’s a great work of art.
China is just biding it’s time. We used to think it was necessary to have more freedom for any country to succeed. Its still mostly true, but Trumps not a buy in on that for sure, so we have to outlast all the damage he is doing on every front. We are six months away from stopping the POS. We will.
@Mark We might last 6 more months with this regime in the White House. Doubtful we’ll last 3 more years.
Taiwan is a little bigger than Maryland and Cuba is about the size of Tennessee.
One good thing that has emerged from Trump’s unilateral bullyboy behavior is that China has recognized how the world reacts. It may be having a sobering effect on China’s own bullyboy tendencies in its own areas of influence, such as the South China Sea and the East China Sea. Taiwan is a different matter, though. It really does believe that Taiwan is a part of China and it is determined to make it so. Maybe, though, they are rethinking how they go about it.
