Hughes County must not be short on cash. They can afford to give former Department of Corrections chief Kellie Wasko a contract to serve as an “external commission advisor” for the county jail.
KCCR’s report on the contract doesn’t specify Wasko’s duties or rate of pay or what makes the commission think they need to hire jail Administrator Captain Gerald Wasko‘s wife to help run the 150-plus-inmate, 40-staff facility. One of the audio clips indicates the county will pay Kellie Wasko by the hour for her consulting.
Governor Kristi Noem brought Kellie Wasko to South Dakota in 2022 to run prisons. Wasko lasted three and a half years doing a less-than-great job. She resigned last September in part to help Governor Larry Rhoden overcome objections to DOC management and secure the Legislature’s approval of a new $650-million prison to replace the state penitentiary.
You know when I was sophomore in Highmore I beat Pierre’s numero uno in tennis. Everyone else from Highmore lost. Our tennis team went belly up. I was so proud of that victory until my good friend from Pierre at USD said that “Pierre was like ten Highmores” that reality would have been better for me now ” Pierre is like 21 Highmores”, has a better ring to it. Reality of a shrinking SD is still sad, oh well.
Wasko I now has a chance to advise on the paint color they should use and other crucial items of advise. At least its not TOO over the top in Noemland.
