One good defense against a raging police state is a community willing to play fuzzbuster:
The South Dakota Highway Patrol didn’t visit Brookings for a saturation patrol that had been announced in advance by the city’s leadership.
The Department of Public Safety sent troopers to Winner and Sturgis for the ninth set of patrols undertaken as part of Gov. Larry Rhoden’s “Operation Prairie Thunder” public safety initiative.
The city of Brookings posted a notice on Dec. 12 saying that troopers would be in the area Dec. 17-19 for a Prairie Thunder saturation patrol. The city would “not be participating” in the operation, the notice said.
…The Highway Patrol signed cooperation agreements with U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement in advance of launching Operation Prairie Thunder, which initially targeted the city of Sioux Falls and surrounding areas.
…The city had posted the notice to let residents know there could be additional officers in town, Brookings City Manager Paul Briseno told South Dakota Searchlight on Wednesday, and to clear up any confusion within the community about where those officers came from. There had been “questions in the community” about Operation Prairie Thunder, he said.
The state gave notice to Brookings that it intended to conduct its Dec. 17-19 saturation patrol, Briseno said, but did not reach out about its change of plans [John Hult, “State Saturation Patrols Go to Sturgis and Winner, But Not Brookings After Public Notification,” South Dakota Searchlight, 2025.12.26].
Boy, if there really were bad guys posing a grave threat to the Republic in Brookings, I’d think our brave troopers would storm in to save us come heck or high press release. Evidently our Gestapo-in-training finds its ambushes thwarted by a duly alert and attentive public.
How is this not selective enforcement especially when Muslims have such a huge footprint in South Dakota’s collegiate faculty population and in its nursing staff?
Gosh, how do they identify these evil doers? Do they identify them by race, by accent, by location, by type of work? Deport the Spanish speaking workers who do the jobs that real Americans refuse to do. What could go wrong? As Kristi did, encourage them in to do the dairy work, pay taxes into social security, and after a few years just get rid of them. That’s fair right? What a country, what a state.

He has less experience than “learned-nothing” grifter Noem. Was she a grifter before she held office? That’s the question.
When did she really shoot her 1st pet? Did she get her own warm gun like her grandchild, to make her happy on the Noem homeplace? I question her 2nd amend. parenting.

While DHS anti-immigration agents may hide their faces, Noem is front-and-center promoting the agency and Trump’s promised mass deportations. ICE Barbie’s unfathomably cruel DHS tenure-her job is to sell a fifty-year conservative political project based on xenophobia and Christian nationalism.
DHS was unified less by mission than by the nationalist turn of the war on terror. ICE was an invention of this agency, which in turn institutionalized the idea that immigrants posed a national security threat. Trump and Noem did not build this. It will not be unmade merely by their departure alone.
