Two-Month Purge Drops Total Registered Voters by 2.1%

Secretary of State Monae Johnson has issued her updated monthly count of registered voters in South Dakota. Secretary Johnson apparently continued her fall purge of the voter rolls. Since October 1, Secretary Johnson has pushed over 15,000 voters into “Inactive” status, a 46% increase. The net decrease in total active voter registration is 13,402, a drop of 2.11% from the October 1 peak of 635,385 registered participants in democracy.

The two-month scrub has resulted in net losses of 5,011 Republicans, 4,144 Democrats, 4,086 independents, 108 Libertarians, and 53 others. But since December 2, 2024, Republicans show a net gain of 110 voters (0.03%) while independents are up 281 (0.18%). Over the last twelve months, Democrats have shed 5,544 registered voters (–3.79%), while Libertarians show a loss of 110 (–3.68%).

The four-year trend reflects even better on the GOP and indies and worse on Dems. Since December 2021, Republican registration is up 39,770 (14.27%), and independent registration is up 19,420 (13.92%). Democrats have lost 12,344 registrants (–8.07%). Over the last four years, Libertarians have netted 300 new members (+11.61%).

Republicans now constitute 51.21% of the South Dakota electorate, a percentage that has not shown a single downward bump since September 2023. Independents make up 25.55% of the statewide electorate. Democrats claim just 22.61% of voters’ allegiance and have languished in third place in voter registration since September 2023.

  1. Democrats are still dropping. That just means that the Rinos are thriving in South Dakota. Keep a lid on it all you liberal Republicans. Don’t let the crazy Magas drive you all crazy too.

  2. With Democratic primaries likely in the three races at the top of the ticket expect those who migrated to the Earth hating SDGOP to come back in the upcoming months.
