Kristi’s Got No Legs: Noem-Endorsed Herbster Loses Nebraska Gubernatorial Primary

I noted Sunday that the candidate Kristi Noem endorsed in Ohio’s Republican U.S. Senate primary, Jane Timken, finished fifth last week. But hey, that was way away in Ohio. Surely Noem’s endorsement would carry more weight closer to home, like in neighboring Nebraska, where she appeared on plane-loaner and lady-groper Charles Herbster’s billboards?

Sure it does. Herbster beat seven other candidates in Tuesday’s gubernatorial primary. He just didn’t beat all eight:

In Nebraska, Jim Pillen has won the Republican primary for governor, according to a race call from The Associated Press.

Riding the endorsement of Gov. Pete Ricketts and much of the state’s GOP establishment, Pillen, a hog producer and University of Nebraska regent, held off rival candidates that included Charles Herbster – a political newcomer backed by former President Donald Trump – and State Sen. Brett Lindstrom.

Pillen’s win is a loss for Trump and the power of his endorsement, which has seemed to push other Republicans in prominent primaries to victory this year, including in West Virginia Tuesday and in Ohio last week.

Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr., came to Nebraska to campaign for Herbster, a wealthy businessman who donated $11.5 million of his own money to his campaign. The stump speeches and spending weren’t enough to beat Pillen in the end, who raised $8.4 million [Will Bauer, “The Power of Trump’s Endorsement Takes a Blow in Nebraska’s GOP Primary for Governor,” NPR, 2022.05.10].

Maybe Herbster can return the favor by coming to South Dakota between depositions to campaign for Noem.

Good to see a Trump person go down. Hopefully people are starting to see what Trump was all about.

  2. But Scott, Trump endorsees have been winning elsewhere, like Ohio last week and West Virginia yesterday. It seems to take Noem’s kiss of death to bring a Trumpist down.

How long before the maga’s cry the election was stolen?

Scott: they literally started forming conspiracy theories on DWC after dems had a good night in Brookings. Of course those claims are coming.
