Noem Needs Bodyguards at Sioux Falls Middle School

Even in state, part-time Governor and full-time campaigner Kristi Noem can’t go anywhere without her entourage. She flew to Sioux Falls yesterday to observe profoundly disabled kids serving lunch at Ben Reifel Middle School, and even in that benign setting, she had to have her bodyguards:

Noem flew into Sioux Falls from Pierre for the event. She was joined by Jordan Overturf, her senior communications advisor, and Ben Koisti, a policy analyst in the Governor’s Office and scheduler for the First Gentleman, as well as Noem’s security detail [Morgan Matzen, “Students Prepare Thanksgiving Meal for Teachers, Peers and Noem, TenHaken at Ben Reifel MS,” that Sioux Falls paper, 2021.11.19].

Kristi Noem needs a security detail at a Sioux Falls middle school, or anywhere else in South Dakota? What is she afraid of: foodfights? Steve Haugaard’s grandkids? Questions from the press?

    Kory:

The Gov. is a risk due to all the left wings nuts that are trying to take her out. Security has been upgraded to keep her safe. Cory you are above posting this type of garbage.

There is a grave concern for her safety.

  2. Ryan

That’s such a fabrication, sam. Shame on you and noem. Embarrassing, yo.

  3. Spearditch is where truth goes to die.

  4. Donald Pay

I agree with Sam, but it’s the right wing nuts she has to worry about. Noem’s a squish when it comes to going really Nazi, and the Nazi crowd is out to get her. No, you can’t be only half Nazi, like Noem, these days in the modern Republican Party. I mean letting transgender people live is not something that goes down well with the rightwing. And, really, they want to see the “defectives,” you know, those kids Noem was at Ben Reifel Middle School to observe, taken to the ovens, after which their cooked remains could be served up to them for Thanksgiving din-din.

So, Noem needs her entourage, complete with her homosexual body guards when she goes to her next stop, the Y.M.C.A.

  5. Anyone know how many of Mrs. Noem’s bodyguards are her boy toys?

  6. Loren

Right, Sam, because it is in the news every day, the “left wing nuts” walking around with semi-auto weapons strapped across their chest…. oh, wait, that would be the RIGHT WINGNUTS and GQP ammosexuals! Be afraid, SD, be afraid!

  7. Sam moved to Spearditch in 2003. Anyone else notice that even PP censors him?

  8. jerry

It’s rutting season. Everyone knows that doe’s have to be traveling with bucks.

Middle School girls can be brutal. Nothing works but a display of weaponry and power. Visits to high schools will be accompanied by SWAT teams and for pay national guard.

  10. O

Given how the Second Amendment fetishists have turned schools into Wild West shooting galleries, a body guard seems wise. Who was guarding the children and staff in this potentially hostile setting?

Did the Governor’s security (and the Governor) honor the gun-free school zone?

I hope she didn’t make anyone feel threatened by her presence, considering the Rittenhouse self-defense verdict . . .

  11. mike from iowa

There is a grave concern for her safety.

I’d have more concern for her grave being given historical significance.

  12. Vi Kingman

    Sam,
Was Rittenhouse a liberal? Wasn’t he partying with that left wing group The Proud Boys?
    Take a longer look Sam

  13. Wild Bill wore a bullet proof vest under his Members Only jacket when he was governor. I will agree that she probably needs a security detail, but it is laughable at a kids luncheon. And as many of you pointed out, she needs to be more scared of the right wingers that may want to hurt her than anyone from the left. I honestly ask you, have any of you met an anti-fa in South Dakota or a left wing radical that is pro-gun and pro-violence? I haven’t. She needs protection from her own kind.

  14. ArloBlundt

Well….you never know who’s receiving messages from beyond Pluto on their wristwatch…right wing, left wing, follower of the benevolent celestial Bagel, it doesn’t seem to matter these days…armed and dangerous is the norm. I’d respect the Governor’s wishes when it comes to security.

  15. DaveFN

The very name of the middle school was likely enough to spook Noem.

  16. Porter Lansing

    The “self-consumed” fantasize being powerful.

Give them nearly unlimited funds and their fantasies run unchecked, towards the absurd.

  17. mike from iowa

Prowd Boys, those liberal clowns, call form stacking up boidies like cordwood after Rittenkiller gets away with murders.

    https://www.rawstory.com/proud-boys-2655766952/

Haven’t heard a peep from violence mongers antifa and BLM. WTF?

  18. ArloBlundt

Well…read about Governor Huey Long…assassinated by a disgruntled Party member…you never know who has their eyes on you when you’re leading the parade.

  19. jerry

O, your last sentence speaks volumes. Not only will Anti-Fa and Black Lives Matter groups need to tread lightly, but Proud Boys and other white nationalists will need heed those words as well. It’s open season on everyone and all you need do is tell the judge you were threatened by their presence or they were blocking your traffic route. All the police need to do now is collect the bodies from both sides, just like they do when there is a deer hit on the road. As they say “bothsidesism” is at play. Don’t get caught in the crossfire of open carry and concealed weapons. I see white silhouettes outlines on the pavement… welcome to the new America, same as the old America, only with more guns and less law.

I am surprised that the Lt. Governor, Mr. Rhoden, does not travel with her and glower at any threatening-looking individuals and intimate he might deliver them a Rhoden Gut-Punch if then venture too close. Or even, lend Ms. Noem a contingent of Rhoden Rhangers. That’s probably who her security detail is…a contingent of Rhoden Rhangers.

“…and Ben Koisti, a policy analyst in the Governor’s Office and scheduler for the First Gentleman,…”

I wonder what Ben gets paid for these positions, which would appear to take ten to fifteen minutes a day of his time, on a busy day, one where the “First Gentleman” wants to be filmed shooting some free throws.

  22. grudznick

That is a great question, Bob. I wonder if the first gentleman may have a more complex schedule than you and I envision. Even just scheduling grudznick for breakfasts all week, a few lunches, some other appointments where I have to talk to people and do things, and then my elaborate social schedule and recreational touring would be a full time job for a young fellow like Mr. Koisti. While you have had some personal glimpses into how busy grudznick is, you and I can only imagine how busy is the first gentleman,

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a consensus agreement on Thursday with the labor union representing 31,000 state employees.
It’s a first for the state, which only granted its employees collective bargaining rights in 2020.
The contract secures an annual, 3 percent across-the-board raise for all union workers.

I heard Gov. Noem’s body guards make $3.00 and hour plus tips.
    Who knew?

  24. Bonnie B Fairbank

Kristi Lynn has an inflated sense of self regard, considering she’s merely a pimple on the butt of life on earth, so OF COURSE she has bodyguards. Rather like Mussolini, only stupider.

  25. LCJ

The Governor’s public appearance’s are regularly announced ahead of time hence the need for security. Sometimes she will make several public appearances in a day. Should she tell her security to take a few hours off just because she is at a school?
You are really digging deep here CAH
LL, to insinuate her security be implied in the way you dream about is quite disgusting.
If it wasn’t for the people that Kyle Rittenhouse shot their wouldn’t be a need for a hero like Kyle Rittenhouse

  26. Don Frankenfeld said he thinks home rule is a conservative’s dream. He said he thinks it empowers the citizens to control their own destiny rather than the local government to control it.

  27. ds

Yea of course she needs a security detail now that she signed an open carry and concealed law. Now all the wackos are out there legally armed to the teeth. And yes South Dakota has the enhanced right to self defense laws also.
So, whether deer hunting or riot busting, be sure to pack the weapon of choice…the AR-15 style assault rifle. But if running down and cutting off a black jogger with pickup trucks, a shotgun will suffice.

  28. Sam is right, we would have taken her out at Irving.

  29. V

In case Sam hasn’t noticed, the Democrats aren’t as aggressive as the Republicans. They’re too busy defending individual human rights and fighting the constant onslaught of bullying, disregard for the rule of law, and gun violence.

In the meantime, the Republicans have been courting white nationalist for my lifetime and longer. And in the meantime, stockpiles of munitions have piled up everywhere in the country.

As a non party member, I see the Democrats trying to save us through the legal system but now the Republicans have the okay to mow us all away whenever and where ever they want.

THIS IS A PROBLEM THE REPUBLICANS HAVE CAUSED BECAUSE THEY WANT EVERYONE ARMED. LIKE NOEM, THEY ALL WANT TO BE A COMIC BOOK HERO.

Mark Anderson, I remember playing Irving in basketball. Back in the day (1950s and early 60s) it was called “Friendly Indians” basketball, later changed to Gra-Y basketball, because, let’s face it, it was some of that institutional racism Noem thinks didn’t ever exist. Irving was torn down in 2020. I went to Mark Twain Elementary, which still stands. My Dad, my brother and I, my cousins, and my two nephews went to Mark Twain.

  31. False, LCJ: Noem’s office does not announce her itinerary. The article cited says Noem’s visit was a surprise.

How many bodyguards did Daugaard, Rounds, and Janklow tote around the state?

Conservative white men who love Noem seem to do all the shooting; Noem doesn’t need bodyguards.

  32. As your next Governor, I promise not to bring armed guards to any event at any public school.

  33. Aaron

Deliberate reliance on sex appeal for votes will always bring out the stalkers.

  34. Curt

The bodyguards were required to prevent Mr Groves of AP from getting too close.

  35. grudznick

67% of middle schools have armed police officers patrolling their grounds, Mr. H. Are you saying those schools are wrong?

  36. bearcreekbat

There are reports that Republicans that voted in the House to pass the most recent Biden bill aimed at helping a vast group of people other thasn the extremely weathly are now getting death threats. V is correct that Noem has to worry about extreme Trumpists, especially now that she has a primary challenger from that group, who attacks her loyality to all the nonsense spouted by the feckless leader of the current Republican party.

And unfortunately there have been some crazy blood thirsty individuals, such as James Hodgkinson, who self identify as liberal or Democrat, as evidenced by the Steve Scalise shooting a few years back. Obviously such individuals pose a threat to politicians they disagree with.

Like Arlo, especially in light of our current 2nd Amendment environment, I really have trouble criticizing Noem for bringing a security detail everywhere she goes.

  37. grudznick

That Mr. Hodgkinson was one sick sorry individual, shooting a fellow defenseless on a baseball field.

  38. Alas, then Noem would only be burning up our tax dollars to remind us of the toxicity that she herself has helped create.

  39. grudznick

Mr. H, I suspect those white male governors had body guards, too. Mr. Rounds in particular traveled with a bunch of goons*. Your NDS is really raging today.

*grudznick does not mean the Guardians of the Oglala Nation, the fellows lurking about back in the days, I mean oafish fellows stuffed into 3-piece suits lurking about uncomfortably the the back of every meet and greet.

  40. Donald, I played guard in Gra-y basketball at Irving, we won the city championship in 62 63, we had a big Jewish center, I was a guard and scored like 3 points a game. Lonnie Cheddar was the other guard and he was great. The games were high scoring if it went to 20. I had to shoot underhanded with both hands for a free throw. It was fantastic and in away games we’d go to the new place McDonald’s for burgers afterward. We only got tied in one game that year and played all the other schools and won the championship at our home court. It was a beautifully designed school. We were the smallest school also. I still have my number 8 top, it might fit on my leg.

  41. By the way Donald Pay, Mark Twain has only about a mile away from Irving, I lived at 307 Summit so I was a downtown boy. It was great, the downtown was bustling then.

  42. Spike

Once again Grdz has to invoke Rhodens gut punch threat to a young news reporter from out east in a crowd of trump luvers as being a symbol of toughness. lol. And once again I suggest Rhoden go to Big Bats in Pine Ridge and throw that threat around. Me, I am mostly impressed by Rhodens black hair dye. Must have borrowed some from Rudy’s forehead….

Ben Reifel would not agree with the way Noem is governing. He was a republican from a different time and mold. Whom earned his degree from SDSU the hard way, by going to class…

I guess my thought is if Noem needs to take armed guards with her entourage into a school maybe she should not go there. It is one thing to go into a public place or private facility with adults involved but something else entirely when it is a school. The security threat to her spills into potential tragedy and chaos for the children. Just avoid it Noem and let Dusty get the photo op and publicity instead. ;)

  43. Donald Pay

Mark Anderson, yeah, I was in 6th grade in 62-63. I don’t remember the game, but I remember we played Irving sometime in 4th, 5th or 6th grade. I was a shrimp, not a good shot, but I could handle the ball pretty well, so I brought it up the court and passed it off to people who could shoot. We had a winning record, but never won any championships.
