American Stupidity, Selfishness Bring Back Coronavirus and CDC Mask Recommendation

Thanks a lot, anti-vax neighbors. Because of your laziness, lies, and lack of consideration for community and science, those of us who consistently sacrificed for over a year and got our shots as soon as we could in hopes of crushing this pandemic have to put our masks back on to fight the delta variant that you let loose on America:

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "When You've Been Fully Vaccinated," guidance on covid-19, updated 2021.07.27.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “When You’ve Been Fully Vaccinated,” guidance on covid-19, updated 2021.07.27.

“To maximize protection from the Delta variant,” says the CDC, “and prevent possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission.” And where in South Dakota is transmission substantial or high?

CDC Covid Data Tracker: "Covid-19 Integrated County View," screen cap of data for South Dakota, week of July 19–25, 2021, retrieved 2021.07.27.
CDC Covid Data Tracker: “Covid-19 Integrated County View,” screen cap of data for South Dakota, week of July 19–25, 2021, retrieved 2021.07.27.

Six of our ten largest counties—Minnehaha, Lincoln, Brown, Codington, Lawrence, and Davison—and 21 counties total out of 66 should mask up in public indoor spaces again… because a lot of us have been selfish and stupid.

We could have prevented this. We could have crushed the pandemic. Some of us tried, but a lot of you disrespected and discarded our sacrifices because you were more interested in political posturing. Thus, as a community, as a nation, we’ve blown it.

And I’m supposed to feel bad for blaming you idiots for bringing coronavirus back? Yeah, right.

Well Cory, I know it’s stupidity of the right, but everyone who has their two shots can watch with compassion at the losers of the world. Laughing out loud also helps. Oh and make sure you get a booster at six months.

How many of John Dale’s lies on Dakota Free Press have misled South Dakotans into believing false medical information about the danger of the Delta variant?

Were John Dale on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or What’s App he’d be permanently banned as a danger to America.

And rightly so. His motivation is unclear but his desire to mislead medically is clear as Black Hills spring water.

  3. grudznick 2021-07-27 17:45

    Mr. Lansing, Nebraska.

  4. Arlo Blundt 2021-07-27 18:09

Well…Mr. Dale, by his admission, had Covid..his medical advice is highly suspect when it comes to this virus and he may have infected many with the virus. We can only hope people are not infected by his advice..

I really never stopped wearing a mask in crowded places. I was eager to meet friends out and have lunch but except for time eating I kept a mask on. Even though I am vaccinated I kept reading little nuggets of information that made me wary. I am angry at the ignorant selfish people who have made it necessary to continue to protect ourselves and our most vulnerable loved ones. The lesson made clear to me is that our liberty can be, and was, exploited and used against us. Knowing that we elected people who used their offices against us in the name of our beloved liberty causes me to fear what might be coming. I believe the founders foresaw the potential when they designed a government of checks and balances but I don’t think they could foresee the evil we’ve seen in the past five years. Beware of the false patriots.

  6. grudznick 2021-07-27 19:30

I saw this fellow once, at breakfast, with a mouth doily. He was short, with a bad haircut, as I recall, and one eye that wandered a bit.

I do not mock at the face masks of yore, or of your now, I type here of a true mouth doily. He might as well have covered his maw with a one-ply napkin.

Now while he kept putting it up between bites, I left my fully compliant mask down as I breakfasted. And when I left Tally’s that fine morning, I put my mask back on. The point of this is, Mr. Nilly, is that false patriots are also those who wear mouth doilies and then howl at others for not wearing masks.

Noem refuses to rise above her ambition and initiate a Governor’s duty to keep her citizens safe.
Once again she claims SD won’t shut down while under the desk she makes county, city, and township elected officials to do the heavy lifting and make the safety precautions her career aspirations can’t swallow.

  8. Vi Kingman 2021-07-27 20:06

One word describes these people “SELFISH”

  9. O 2021-07-27 20:11

Four died in the 2012 Benghazi; 2041 have died in SD from COVID. Which tragedy did the GOP crank up the outrage machine to beat the drum of administrative incompetence?

With each “success” touted by our freedom-loving Governor and her like-thinking ilk, a . . . but 2041 people died needs to be added to the pat-on-the-back for flouting public health concerns.

It looks like death panels are promoting profit over life.

  10. John Dale 2021-07-27 21:13

    Covid is a cold virus.

    Weaponized.

    Fauci funded it.

Give credit where credit is due.

    What a mess.

Just to win an election for anonymous globalist banksters.

  11. John Dale 2021-07-27 21:14

Are the cases the result of PCR tests? Because PCR tests give mostly false positives (that’s why they were stripped of their emergency authorization status this week).

  12. John Dale 2021-07-27 21:17

Blaming me for spreading covid is not only stupid, it is dangerous. Cory won’t be liable. You will.

For the record – when I had it, I felt bad for 17 hours, and, like I have my whole life, I stayed away from others until I was certain I wasn’t contagious.

Because that’s what you do when you have a cold.

It’s what I’ve always done when I have a cold.

  13. John Dale 2021-07-27 21:20

“How many of John Dale’s lies on Dakota Free Press have misled South Dakotans into believing false medical information about the danger of the Delta variant?”

I was waiting for this turn.

For what it’s worth, I’m trying to get the Delta variant. You know where I can get it?

When I get it, I’ll self quarantine like I always have, and I’ll have real, natural lasting immunity.

    So.

    Say my name again.

    Please?

  14. Porter Lansing 2021-07-27 21:28

    John Dale didn’t have Covid.

If he did, let him prove it.

The little boy from Gitmo lies like a Trump.

  15. John Dale 2021-07-27 21:28

“The CDC shifts their position AGAIN. South Dakota’s cases remain low. If you’re worried about the virus, you’re free to get vaccinated, wear a mask, or stay at home. But we won’t be mandating anything. And the CDC’s inconsistency doesn’t help the American people.” — Governor Noem

All this FUD ensures Governor Noem is reelected.

  16. John 2021-07-27 21:50

noem, John Dale, the CDC shifts their position because the scientific facts changed. Mark Anderson is correct. The anti-vax morons are opposed to the “trump vaccine” because the COVID virus first manifest in blue states (WA, NY, CA). Now that most infections and deaths are in red states, the morons are tied to their dogma — unable to shift their positions based on new scientific facts.

It’s inconceivable how noem and her luddites grew crops and raised livestock in the absence of vaccinations and applying science – even when the scientific facts changed.

  17. Willy 2021-07-27 22:08

John Dale is as straight as a cork-screw. He spouts mendacity, lies, and other BS.

  18. Whitless 2021-07-27 22:19

In my view, the primary cause for vaccine hesitancy rests with lying Donny Trump, his sycophants, including KN, and the Fox echo chamber. Solely for political reasons, they attacked the credibility of medical experts. For supporters of DJT, many chose to believe these false attacks despite the nearly universal concurrence of scientists throughout the world that vaccines are effective against COVID. Those who have politicized this pandemic deserve scorn and condemnation. They have unnecessarily prolonged this pandemic at the cost of lives, health and economic hardship. If the only voices of opposition were the anti-vaxxers, then the level of vaccine hesitancy would likely be much lower.

  19. John Dale 2021-07-27 22:41

  20. John Dale 2021-07-27 22:42

  21. Erica 2021-07-27 22:44

And yet MANY of us who havent masked up and or been vaccinated how been just fine.
If you are vaccinated and/or still wearing your mask and concerned about what others are doing, then you dont fully believe in the safety measures you have taken for your self. You sure shouldn’t be forcing those same safety measures onto others if you are not confident in their effectiveness.

How have the lot of you managed to live your lives throughout all your years every flu season and any other time a virus came about?? Must have been because the media & Govt didn’t let you believe it was something to be concerned about even though covid is no more dangerous than other viruses that have come & gone many times over.

  22. Erica 2021-07-27 22:47

*And yet MANY of us who havent masked up and or HAVEN’T (just to clarify) been vaccinated have been just fine.

  23. John Dale 2021-07-27 23:02

“The little boy from Gitmo lies like a Trump.”

    Dear Porter;

The burden of proof is yours.

Are you going to get a third shot this year, and 10 next year (cause that’s the plan if you survive)?

Are the FEMA camps really for *gasp* the vaccinated?

    Best of luck to you!

    Sincerely,

    John

  24. Guy 2021-07-27 23:04

This is how Kristi Noem wins. She plays off our divisions. Unfortunately, for us, she’s going to continue to play the COVID issue to her advantage. Why? I’ve read through these comments and I see how divisive we are with each other over this issue. If Kristi were monitoring our comments, she would be smiling from ear to ear. Divide and conquer works well for Noem.

  25. John Dale 2021-07-27 23:06

From the White House on May 13:
Big news from the CDC: If you’re fully vaccinated, you do not need to wear a mask – indoors or outdoors, in most settings. We’ve gotten this far. Whether you choose to get vaccinated or wear a mask, please protect yourself until we get to the finish line.

So, the CDC is responsible for the spread by not mandating masks for the vaccinated?

    What a sloppy affair.

  26. John Dale 2021-07-27 23:11

Just to clear the record (Porter and Mike misstate a lot here, especially about me).

My stepdad was an auto parts contractor with East Bay Auto, and we got to go on base from 1983-1985 while my parents ran the auto parts warehouse on base.

It was awesome. Happy to share all the details anytime. My favorite thing was the seafood.

I am not “from” Guantanamo Bay, but I did get to live there as a kid. There were a LOT of lizards there, too.

    That is all.

  27. DaveFN 2021-07-28 00:17

“…each day 2,380 Americans die from cardiovascular disease — 405 per day due to strokes alone. More than 1,680 Americans sadly lose their battle with cancer each day. 474 die from unintentional or accidental injuries. 332 die from Alzheimer’s. 240 lives end due to complications from diabetes.”. – –Noem’s response today to todays CDC’s call for masking.

Idiot Noem in her infinite wisdom ignores we are now as a nation at 40,000 COVID cases and climbing nationwide.

  28. John Dale 2021-07-28 00:46

“Fauci is the biggest spreader of Covid misinformation in America.” — Larry the Cable Guy

    Cases?

    From the PCR tests?

  29. M 2021-07-28 06:17

Cory, I find John Dales’s posts to be repulsive lies that are far below a level of acceptance. I know it’s your site, however I’m tired of his crap because it’s everywhere else already. I come here to get away from it and to partake in the intellectual conversation. We all know where John Dale stands so it’s torturous to bumble through his crap to read the higher level material.

He’s out of control on this article and I suspect drank too many Buds.

  30. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2021-07-28 06:51

John and Gov. Noem, the fact that guidance from the CDC has changed does not mean the CDC is making mistakes. The CDC looks at the science, gains new information about covid-19, and responds to both that new information and the new conditions in society. Changing guidance is a sign of trustworthiness, far better than Noem’s refusal to change course unless her focus groups tell her it helps her win elections.

Erica, saying that the fact that we believe in preventative measures like wearing a mask shows that we don’t really believe in preventative measures shows that you’e contradicting yourself in an effort to preserve your failing argument.

  31. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2021-07-28 06:53

Not only do I have to avoid going to public indoor events again, but more Americans are getting sick and dying, and that sickness and those deaths are entirely preventable. This whole mess could be averted, America could beat the enemy, if people like John and Erica would just drop their self-serving lies and fantasies, accept basic science, and serve their country. Idiots.

  32. DaveFN 2021-07-28 07:23

34% of total population in Pennington and 47% in Minnehaha counties now fully vaccinated.

CDC | Data as of: July 27, 2021 6:00am ET. now

The majority appear to want nothing more than to prolong this pandemic and increase the death count.

  33. Dana P 2021-07-28 07:30

The John Dale’s of our state and country are detached from reality. Had Covid for 17 hours? Uh huh. You are so in denial about this deadly virus that you took yourself to a Covid approved medical facility (you know the type John. The ones that actually have science backing their testing and process and science) and got yourself a Covid test. Uh huh

That distracts from the point that you and others in this country have had no problem spreading dangerous lies and falsehoods about this pandemic that it has cost lives for no reason. Reckless. Irresponsible.

United we stand, and divided we are falling. Like Cory said…….Idiots. If only your ‘freedom’ and your reckless decision making didn’t impact the rest of us.

  34. james 2021-07-28 07:57

Erica says: “And yet MANY of us who haven’t masked up and or been vaccinated have been just fine.”

Right on, Erica. You are exactly right. Many will be fine.

But… SOME will not be so fine. Some will die. Did the CDC say everyone would be hospitalized or die? Did they, Erica?

You question why those who have been vaccinated might still wear masks. Let me see if I can explain this to you. We don’t yet have a complete picture on transmissablity of the Delta variant. We MAY be able to spread it even when vaccinated. But, you know, who cares… right?

  35. james 2021-07-28 08:24

“The CDC shifts their position AGAIN,” Noem says.

The cases are skyrocketing this month and she attacks the CDC for trying to confront this change in circumstance.

    Idiot.

  36. Jake 2021-07-28 08:24

The back of Trump’s wife’s jacket at the border last year said it all: “I don’t really care, do you?”

John Dale you have a ‘Black Hole” for a brain.

US life expectancy fell for the 3d year in a row. This falling life expectancy is a metric owned by the selfish trumpers, noemers.

Nearly half of iowa counties have met the threshold for transmission of Delta brand covid. No where near enough vaccinated people.

  39. Spike 2021-07-28 09:02

There are many good comments on this site. Guy makes points about Noems political MO that we should all take into consideration for sure.

Scary how she downplays the virus. What heart disease and accident deaths have to do with covid deaths is that our health system and the amazing people that work in it cannot help as well as they are capable of. We do not have an infinite amount of service and I would surmise that many of the deaths she mentions would have been prevented if more personal precautions were taken against the virus spread and our health systems could focus more on the things she mentions.

I am also with M on John Dale. There have been some characters on this site whose opinions we may not like but he is going too far and I believe driving people away. It is hard to ignore him when he is every other post. Maybe I’m too sensitive…. or else just too disgusted with the anti vaccine craziness everywhere.

Everyone please take care of themselves today and the 4 legged relatives. It is gonna be a scorcher.

Dear fellow DFS commentators, don’t feed the trolls, and we all know who they are.
Meanwhile, I’ll continue to wear masks in indoor settings because, even with full vaccination, I have a husband I dearly love who has multiple serious health issues, and I don’t want to bring something home to him, because it probably would kill him. That’s MY choice. And the trolls can bite it.

  41. cibvet 2021-07-28 10:38

Great post Eve Fisher. We all know the trolls come to this site trying to be pertinent and when we reply to their misinformation, it satisfies their sense of being. That said, misinformation must be addressed or it will take on a life of its own which is the defining motivation of trolls.

  42. Lottie 2021-07-28 10:52

I believe this whole covid virus thing is very real and we need to protect ourselves in whatever way we can. Everyone must realize that many recommendations by the CDC are Science-based. I don’t know what the big deal is about wearing masks it’s Simple to do. Notice that Nebraska is not going to require mask or vaccines in their schools. Another Gnome. I often wonder why people don’t realize we are talking about saving human lives here.

  43. John Dale 2021-07-28 11:13

Is the case load being driven by KNOWN FRAUDULENT PCR tests?

  44. mike from iowa 2021-07-28 12:37

There is no test known to mankind that is 100% accurate 100% of the time. Known fraudulent tests are like known fraudulent voters. They exist in an alternate fact universe.

  45. Porter Lansing 2021-07-28 14:21

    KNOWN FRAUDULENT PCR tests?

John Dale is a public health hazard and should be banned from this blog.

  46. DaveFN 2021-07-28 15:26

A certain reader of DFP—or a certain noxious commentator who apparently seeks acknowledgement of his minimal PCR internet-informed knowledge not to mention his desire for frequent attention—has yet to apprehend the difference between (1) a relative and practicable indicator of viral spread within a mass population, crude by some standards, yet the most workable we have, and (2) an absolute and precise measure of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

In simple Kantian terms, the phenomenal (our imperfect COVID testing methodology which does exist) has always blocked access to the noumenal (the perfectly quantifiable yet non-existent possibility of absolute determination of infection on the mass population level).

What is closer to being exactly quantifiable is the vaccination rate within a population. If that isn’t quantifiable enough, consider the number of COVID deaths which themselves map to positive PCR test counts.

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/?utm_campaign=homeAdUOA?Si

Or, to approach the hypothetically absolute, consider 627,564 COVID deaths in the US and some 6.9 million deaths globally (more than double what official reports show, as published by IHME). Or are those numbers not yet good enough?

    http://www.healthdata.org/special-analysis/estimation-excess-mortality-due-covid-19-and-scalars-reported-covid-19-deaths

The newest testing recommendations of the CDC utilize a multiplex assay to differentiate among SARS-CoV-2, influenza A, and influenza B. As such, they represent a move toward a more finely-grained indicator of the varieties of viral spread within the population.

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/lab/testing.html

Most know that the perfect has always been the enemy of the good-enough. Except said DFP commentator who apparently just recently figured that out.

  47. Porter Lansing 2021-07-28 19:35

Biden and Fauci’s Brilliant Gambit =
-When we vaccinated liberals mask up again, it’s not because we’re in any danger.
    -We’re 99% protected.
-We’re inconveniencing ourselves to save people like John Dale from himself.
-30% of USA (MAGA’s) are vulnerable and we’re stepping up to do what good neighbors do.
-He’ll never thank us and we’re not interested in gratitude or glory.
-The positive vibe we get from our own, is enough.

  48. Jake 2021-07-28 19:57

    Porter-you are so “right on!”

  49. Mark Anderson 2021-07-29 17:03

Erika, my wife and I mask up when we go out. We both have our shots but we could still catch it, it would be minor like the flu because we got our shots but we could still transmit covid to others who are too stupid to get vaccinated and could get sick and die. Unlike you we care about others.

  50. Mark Anderson 2021-07-29 17:15

Porter, I just read you, I read Erika’s bull and just went down and made my comment. Its amazing to me when trumpies read their own motivation into the liberal mind. You are absolutely correct. I know I sometimes get harsh with those who are against vaccination, but I would never really harm them or want too. I don’t know what I would do if anyone I truly love was hurt by their stupidity, but thats something luckily I don’t have to worry about.
