“Security Reasons” Don’t Stop Noem Photo Opp with Guards Headed for Southern Border

When Governor Kristi Noem announced she was pimping out our National Guard to a billionaire bidder with an ideological agenda, but the Governor’s Office initially refused to give details about the deployment out of concern for “security reasons.”

Evidently there are no security reasons to avoid publishing pictures of the South Dakota National Guarders when the Governor needs a campaign photo opp:

If I were a terrorist seeking to undermine national security by targeting National Guards deployed to the border, I’d find budget data on the cost of the deployment far less useful than photos of the Guards themselves. So the next time you hear Ian Fury babbling about “security reasons”, remind him of these photos from his boss, and then ask him to quit stonewalling and give us some real public budget accountability.

We need the press to keep in contact with the guards and to observe what they actually do when they reach the border. That includes the other detachments GOP governors are ordering down there. An Illinois Guard officer says, “We’re not civilian law enforcement. And so we can’t really be used as an auxiliary police force. And we legally cannot make arrests. We can hold somebody for a bit until a fully licensed civilian police officer can come in and arrest that person. But if we’re detaining someone, that should be for a very short period of time. We’re not trained to investigate crimes. We’re really not trained in community policing.”

Yup, It’s all about her. If she wanted to stop human trafficking, she should would be sending the Guard to the Sturgis Rally.

Isn’t pimping out the guard similar to human trafficking? Couldn’t a competent lawyer convince a judge of this?

It must be exhausting spending every waking moment figuring out how to stick your face into the public consciousness as much as humanly possible.

  5. Yeah, you’d think, Dicta, but narcissists feed off attention.

Alas, it is certainly exhausting living with and under the rule of such a person.

Well…they look like a group of very up and coming young people and I hope they benefit from the experience. A trip to the Rio Grande Valley can be a real eye opener. Its a very unique part of America…the food and the music are worth the trip. Up above the Falcon Dam you run into real desert country, very barren
. El Paso and its sister city in Mexico is one of the great urban areas of this continent and can be a lot of fun to visit. I hope the Guardsmen and women come back to South Dakota and share what they have learned about the so called “border crises”. I think they will find, that outside of our detention facilities, the region is not in crises at all.

I’d feel more secure if Kristi would go down in full paramilitary outfit over black Amani dress and direct the op on the ground. She’ll be running against Kamala no doubt!

Were these 50 young people employed before they left? Are they leaving 50 more unfilled job openings in SD when employers are begging for help?

Is this an official Guard deployment so that their jobs are secure upon their return? Or will some of them return to find their empty slots filled in their absence?

  9. Hang in there, Leslie: that photo opp is coming. I can see it coming: will get tweets from Christy on the border in full camo gear and maybe even a helmet on a sunny Texas morning, and then she’ll be at a fundraiser in Houston with Allen West that evening.

I bet theres alot of work to be done at the border. Giving Covid shots, helping feed the people, washing dishes or laundry detail. Putem to work. South Dakota cares, LOL.

Having a hard time processing these photos of a “deployment”. Are they representing Homer Simpson, kristi noem, South Dakota, or the US? If either of the latter two, where are the uniforms?! Guards – don’t complain over the “reputation” you earn from the Regulars. Set the standards low and they will achieve them.

The biggest challenge they’ll face is keeping the air conditioning and electricity on in Governor Abbott’s mis-managed grid. Life along the border communities is too often far better than is life on South Dakota’s reservations.

  12. Come on, everyone knows the real reason for deployment. Didn’t she give them T shirts or something. I’m sure Kristi’s are cheaper than Svengoolies.
