Wear White to Families Belong Together Rallies in Aberdeen, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, and Vermillion

Families Belong Together LogoAre you unhappy with your government’s abuse of human rights at our southern border? Then come make your voice heard at one of at least four Families Belong Together rallies in South Dakota tomorrow protesting the Trump Administration’s unconscionable policy of family separation:

  1. I’ve told you about the Aberdeen rally, Saturday morning, 10 o’clock Central, at Anderson Park by the Senior Center. I’m on the program to speak, along with other defenders of human rights and due process.
  2. Indivisible Rapid City invites protestors to rally in Memorial Park Saturday at 10 a.m. Mountain.
  3. Sioux Falls defenders of justice will gather at Fawick Park downtown Saturday at 11 a.m. “to ask Congress to enact compassionate immigration policies to keep families together, allow for due process, the right to seek asylum at our borders and to enact legislation to overturn the Supreme Court of the United States implementation of the Muslim Travel Ban.” Sponsors of that rally so far include ACLU-SD, Caminando Juntos, Establishing Sustainable Connections, LEAD, Hispanic Business Network, Pax Christi South Dakota, Planned Parenthood SD Advocate, Presentation Sisters, Refugee Congress, SD Synod of the ELCA, SD Voices for Justice, SD Voices for Peace, Sioux Falls, AFL-CIO, Swamp Daddy’s
  4. And Vermillion believers in the real America will march from the public library Saturday at 10 a.m. to support the message that Families Belong Together: “Protestamos por las condiciones en las que se mantienen a estos niños. Protestamos contra el trauma irreversible que ya se ha perpetrado contra estos niños y sus padres por el delito de buscar una vida mejor.”

Protestamos, indeed!

We encourage everyone to wear white to show solidarity.

Capitol Police said 575 protesters were arrested and escorted out of the Hart Senate Office Building in a mass demonstration that called for the abolishment of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, and an end to migrant family detentions and the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy.
They were charged with unlawfully demonstrating, a misdemeanor.

One of my friends was separated from her Mexican migrant parents when she was about 8. She had been born in the US and never really understood why it happened. My understanding is that she never saw them again.
It was during the Eisenhower administration, so of course it was Trump’s fault.

I have written about this before on the Dakota Free Press; however, I feel it is important enough to mention again and that is Kristi Noem’s silence about the separation of families at the southern border. She spoke repeatedly about human trafficking on the air wavesbut now she has nothing to say. Im sure she would say it is two different stories…but are they really ? CRICKETS! I guess if it’s a policy pumelgated by the Trump regime it’s just okey dokey with Rep Noem

Anne Beal is drinking again. The last line of her comment is rock-solid proof.

To be more effective, maybe these protests should be on the border educating families of the risks of illegally crossing? Too much common sense there I suppose.

Immigration policy was just ducky until unelected Drumpf changed it because of Obama’s hand in it. Drumpf does not care who gets hurt as long as he can erase Obama from history.

Like everything else Drumpf has touched, it is utter chaos and getting worse because wingnuts can’t govern.

We’ve got a killer heat wave, and our protest is set for the middle of the afternoon. I’m not a big fan of wearing a uniform to protests. Protests shouldn’t be junior high events where you all have to wear the same thing. That said, since it’s hot and they say white is better to wear with the sun beating down, I’m wearing white just for comfort.

I can’t do much about Eisenhower’s policy, but I can have an impact on Trump’s. Any policy that separates families seeking asylum is evil, I don’t care what President is doing it.

Roosevelt initiated the Bracero program so Mexicans could come to the United States to replace American soldiers who were sent to war. “The Bracero Program (from the Spanish term bracero, meaning “manual laborer” or “one who works using his arms”) was a series of laws and diplomatic agreements, initiated on August 4, 1942, when the United States signed the Mexican Farm Labor Agreement with Mexico. The agreement guaranteed decent living conditions (sanitation, adequate shelter and food) and a minimum wage of 30 cents an hour; it also allowed the importation of contract laborers from Guam as a temporary measure during the early phases of World War II.

The agreement was extended with the Migrant Labor Agreement of 1951, enacted as an amendment to the Agricultural Act of 1949 (Public Law 78) by Congress, which set the official parameters for the bracero program until its termination in 1964.”

Eisenhower, under Operation Wetback (a republican racist, say it ain’t so) deported even some American citizens. “As many as 1.3 million people may have been swept up in the Eisenhower-era campaign with a racist name, which was designed to root out undocumented Mexicans from American society.

The short-lived operation used military-style tactics to remove Mexican immigrants—some of them American citizens—from the United States. Though millions of Mexicans had legally entered the country through joint immigration programs in the first half of the 20th century, Operation Wetback was designed to send them back to Mexico.”

What Anne Beal states is quite possible.

  9. Terrible event, Anne. Shouldn’t have happened, and shouldn’t be repeated now. Evil and un-American.

Families are separated every day in America when a Parent commits a crime and goes to jail. The children’s parents committed a crime when they entered the US illegally

  11. Sure, Greg. And the Allies should have just sat on the German border and warned folks that the Nazis would put them in concentration camps.

  12. Jason

Terrible analogy Cory unless you are saying the illegal immigrants should attack the US?

  13. mike from iowa

Context, Jason, context. Drumpf and perjurer Sessions are on record saying that the separation of kids from their parents was an intended side effect of their policy. The kids were going to be used by Drumpf and perjurer Sessions as bargaining chips to force Dems to fund Drumpf’s folly border wall. It is all in the record. There might even be a notation in the record of how you, Ryan and OldSomalian would make great additions to Fake Noize propaganda corps.
