If you can’t beat ’em, join up with your allies and beat ’em!
That’s the thesis of Sioux Falls UNITE, a collaboration of Democratic Legislative candidates in the nine districts overlapping Minnehaha and Lincoln counties.
“We are collaborating to bring a better balance to our State Legislature,” said Scott C. Petersen, one founder and candidate for the House of Representatives from District 12. “While Republicans have only 42 percent of registered voters in our area, they control 85 percent of the Legislative seats from the Sioux Empire. Our goal in collaborating is to bring that into better balance – for a better government that represents all the interest of our area.”
“At our first meeting, we found we were a very diverse group of individuals, but we had strong consensus around three key issues,” said fellow founder Jeff Hayward, who is also running for the House from District 12. “We are all focused on demanding higher ethics in government, improvements to our educational system, and promoting a strong economy and workforce development. Each of our campaigns will emphasize these and other important issues” [Sioux Falls UNITE, press release, 2018.06.26].
SF UNITE kicks off its collaborative campaign this week Thursday, June 28, at the ICON Event Center, starting at 5:00 p.m. No Direction, The Hegg Brothers, and Mike Connor will play music. SF UNITE would like $5 free-will donations at the door, and they encourage guests to chip in for the candidates of their choice.
Very strong collaborative partnership to help us move forward!
Once again, District 12 Democrats are leading the way…..
Smart planning. I wish them great success.
