Hear Good Debate, Sign Petitions at Saturday Candidate Forum in Aberdeen

Last updated on 2022-01-04

Want a double dose of democracy? Aberdeen’s League of Women Voters and the Chamber of Commerce are hosting a candidate forum this Saturday, May 9, 10 a.m. at the Hub Area Multi-District Vocational Center, 640 9th Ave SW. You can hear incumbent city commissioner and former Northern Beef Packers marketing director Laure Swanson and her challenger (me!) discuss big Aberdeen issues. You can then hear the four candidates seeking the two available school board seats discus their visions for education. Best of all, we’re taking questions from the audience, so come write some killer questions about street maintenance and downtown development and see what we say! (Alas, questions must be written and will be filtered by the LWV and Chamber, but if you have questions that don’t get asked during the show, ask me afterward!)

Of course, if I’m at a public event, you can bet I’ll have my referendum petitions handy. I’ll arrive at the forum by 9:30 Saturday morning. You can come early and sign the petitions to refer the youth minimum wage and the Incumbent Protection Plan to a public vote, or you can catch me after the city council portion of the show to put your signature on one or both petitions to defend democracy.

Come do good politics with me in Aberdeen Saturday morning, and bring your registered-voter friends!

In addition to bring your questions to submit to the LVW and Chamber, post them here, so everyone can see how they’re filtered for the candidates to address.

  2. I’m open to that, Bob! Aberdonians and neighbors, feel free to post your Aberdeen City Council questions here. Not only do we get the openness Bob encourages, but I can practice my answers! :-)
