Pence Not Buying Carlson’s Insurrection Revisionism

Tucker Carlson wasn’t at the United States Capitol during the January 6, 2021, insurrection; Mike Pence was. Here’s what Mike Pence says happened:

“President Trump was wrong,” Pence said during remarks at the annual white-tie Gridiron Dinner attended by politicians and journalists. “I had no right to overturn the election. And his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”

…“Make no mistake about it, what happened that day was a disgrace,” Pence said in his Gridiron Dinner remarks. “And it mocks decency to portray it any other way” [Zeke Miller and Chris Megerian, “Pence Says Trump ‘Endangered My Family’ on Jan. 6,” AP, 2023.03.12].

It’s not pleasant choosing between a batty Fox panderer and Roy Batty for historical reliability, but Pence is at least speaking plain truth: his old boss put Pence, Pence’s family, hundreds of faithful public servants, and American democracy in danger. The danger remains, and we will only beat that danger back by speaking the truth and voting courageously and consistently for those who speak the truth with us.

Pence speaks the truth, except when and where it counts. He only tells the truth when he can make a buck off of it, not to hold anyone accountable.

He should have insisted on testifying to the Jan. 6 committee. He should insist on testifying at any criminal investigation into Jan.6, election fraud or any other investigation into Trump’s criminal activity that he may witnessed during the Trump Administration.

Pence was a true hero on January 6. He saved our democracy. And then he turned into a coward. He wants history to do the job he is too cowardly to do. People hold other people accountable. History doesn’t do a goddamn thing. Pence has failed time and again since Jan. 6 to stand up and tell the truth in a forum where it counts.

“He wants history to do the job he is too cowardly to do.”

I just wanted to emphasize Donald’s comment. Same could be said of the entire SD delegation!

Donald and Loren: You’re BOTH so damned right!! Dusty Crusty’s recent GOP mouth-piecing about how the GOP is “off and running” doing the work it promised us it would do is the ultimate in attempts at “trying to polish a turd” to make it look like a gem. Jim Jordan’s “Weaponization Committee” is so shaky that it should be called a “Grievance” committee instead. McCarthy as a “leader” would be further ahead calling up our unicorn riding governess of SD and asking her to trade places of power. McCarthy then could have a direct link to Fox News from the basement of the Gov’s mansion.

  4. It’s clear Herr Trump put out a contract on Mike Pence and Republicans like John Thune aided and abetted their party’s leader during an attempted assassination. Mike Pence knew at least ten years ago that Trump is a loose cannon and Trump would have pulled the trigger on the gallows built to hang the Vice President.

  5. It is deeply saddening that the party of Eisenhower has squandered the opportunity to make America truly great instead of helping to lead the way to sustainable and equitable secular progress or where Republicans like Liz Cheney could actually be POTUS.

Pence will go down in History as an American Hero. Prior to History’s judgement he may well die in ignomy or be assassinated by a Trumpist Militia.

  7. Mike Pence has all the integrity of a vial of pus and now that an Earth hater is Speaker of the House America’s POTUS and VPOTUS are in mortal danger from that Trumpist mob.

What my close personal friend Lar is trying to say, is:

Mr. Pence is a pretty swell fellow.

  9. What should be said is that the Republican Party has fitted its moral compass with concrete galoshes then jettisoned it into the swamp it swore to drain and South Dakota’s congressional delegation helped to bury the remains.

  10. Mike Pence could have said it under oath. To say he’s a brave boy is bonkers.

  11. Arlo Blundt

I’m not bonkers, yet. History will be kinder to Pence than the contemporary criticism for his game playing and seemingly endless loyalty to the Republican Party at its’ most traitorous. He’s sort of the new Gerald Ford.

  12. Mike Pence is Fred Deutsch without a beard.

  13. So, Mrs. Noem could never be Mike Pence’s running mate because Mother would never allow it, right?
