Hiatt Challenges Kolbeck’s Re-Election in District 13; BBQ on Sunday!

Jack Kolbeck “is announcing his re-election” to the District 13 Senate seat.

I had to reread that press release from the unreliable SDGOP mouthpiece blog. Did someone hold a special election in Sioux Falls? Did Kolbeck’s Democratic opponent quit?

Well, the first Democrat who filed to challenge Senator Kolbeck, Hugh Grogan, did withdraw back on July 2. But Democrat Melissa Hiatt jumped into the race on July 30, and she was out campaigning last night:

Hiatt will also be hosting a “Bright Balanced Bold Barbecue” Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Richie and Alison Hutchinson’s house, 2404 South Elmwood Avenue in Sioux Falls. For the barbecue, Hiatt invites donations equivalent to what you’d spend taking your family out to dinner… which is probably less than the $1,000 Kristi Noem and Donald Trump are charging you and your honey to sit in the Denny Sanford Convention Center with them this afternoon.

Senator Kolbeck, revise your text. You’re welcome to announce your candidacy, but contrary to Republican club-entitlement thinking, you have to compete for re-election.

I noticed this as well and I thought it strange for someone to announce their re-election before election day. Then I remembered what state I live in and the attitude of the Republican establishment in this state.

Did anyone on the PP site even take issue with the announcment?

Cory. Please allow me to comment, briefly. I posted this on DWC (anonymously, of course) and it’s true. There are more people disagreeing with the general theme of that blog now than in the last two election cycles.

Cory, to answer your question: rarely in my experience.

  4. That’s interesting, Porter! Now will any of those dissenters on DWC translate their dissent into real action? I’m seeing a lot of instances of online chatter not translating into real votes.
