Forward the Jockocracy—Jackley Fundraises with Pro Ballers

Republican gubernatorial candidate Marty Jackley plies the jock vote by announcing a family fun-draiser June 8 in Sioux Falls with professional athletes Chad Greenway and Mike Miller.

Rah. Sport.

But hey, at least to keep it family friendly, Team Jackley is suggesting a mere $250 contribution, a quarter of the suggested price of admission to his private hat-passing here in Aberdeen next week.

Jackley has plenty of jockocracy appeal. Check out his springy trot in this 2014 campaign ad:

Jackley does know how to run! Forget the high-priced entertainers: our politics and our statewide self-image could use more imagery of skinny guys  doing their own sports and running up those lonely country roads.

Greenway is turning out to be a disappointment-political wise. I thought I larnt him better at the U of iowa. (not really) Let Greenway and Riley Reiff be a good lesson for all young South Dakota kids- athletics pay yooge dividends if you have enough talent and get coached up right.Jackley might teach you how to avoid doing yer job and still be employed at the public trough in embarrassingly red South Dakota.

This looks like a good idea for an event to me. I take it that Adam Vinatieri is not in the Jackley camp?

I wonder if that is the cornfield Jackboot Jackley runs, by that Benda was whacked in. This is kind of truth in advertising of how Jackley has done South Dakota business. Running away from the truth seems accurate.

Some choice, country road jogger vs. lady in tight jeans with a horse. Come on Democrats, get a viable candidate…. PLEASE!

Just think. If the AG wins the primary, then he can hold an other fundraiser like this one in the fall of 2018, except that Senator Thune can come too with his basketball in hand.

Although, this is an exercise in “Jockocracy” (no pun intended). It is actually an other example of the “Hollywoodization” of our politics. Where image trumps substance.

  6. And Loren, don’t diss the country-road jogger. I guarantee you that my gubernatorial campaign ads will feature me running along the gravel road on the south side of Lake Herman (good little hills and curves there), on the Sioux Falls bike trail, over the bridge over Moccasin Creek near the Aberdeen pool (the prettiest place in Aberdeen), along the Centennial and Mickelson Trails, and up Lookout Mountain, with a beautiful shot of me reaching the top and standing on that rock outcrop gazing out at Spearfish and Crow Peak. :-)
