Pennington County Democrats Get to Work on Resistance

Everybody talks about the ill weather of the Trumpist election, but nobody does anything about it… except the Pennington County Democrats, who called a meeting on Sunday and had over 60 people show up:

The PennCoDems have a strategy meeting on November 20  1–3 p.m. MST at the Rapid City Public Library to continue yesterday’s discussion and their monthly meeting on November 29 6–7 p.m. at Computer Village. The PennCoDems are also pushing pipeline resistance, SD NOW, and Dakota Rural Action on their website as opportunities to get involved with issues important to South Dakotans and to resist the assaults of the incoming administration.

Joy Reid defines the focus for resistance.

“You’ve lost the morality card. No longer can the U.S. go around lecturing the world about democracy, because, in our democracy, the person who got the most votes will not be president Nor does the party that got the most vote control the House of Representatives. Again, we’re required to accept this affront to democracy, because that’s our system. But our acceptance doesn’t make it any less democratic.

“You have also lost the notion of an exceptional America. Because as it turns out, We’re just another western nation into the ethno-national forces sweeping and swinging across Europe… We, as it turns out, are not so different at all.’

“You have ratified Trump’s vulgarity, his crassness. You saw exactly who and what he was and you chose it. You are going to have to own that. If the incoming president makes you feel proud, I am very happy for you. But please don’t tell the people who are afraid that they have no right to be.”

Joy Reid is spot on. We are the oligarchy that Jimmy Carter correctly defined. In an oligarchy, no one is the winner but the super wealthy. Get over yourselves if you think differently.

Gwen Ifill of PBS passed away. Too bad, America needs more minority reporters, not less. What Ms Reid says is 100% true and it is up to us to make sure the enemy is reminded they own this mess.

Now with Kristi Noem making her announcement for governor, Democrats throughout the state can start doing what they should have doing all along. The Vote Smart statements provide a place to begin.

John Thune has refused to provide voters with positions on key issues covered by the 2016 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests. Historically, candidates have failed to complete our test due to the advice they receive from their parties and advisors and out of fear of negative attack ads. John Thune is still welcome to submit the test at any time.

Mike Rounds has refused to provide voters with positions on key issues covered by the 2014 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests. Mike Rounds is still welcome to submit the test at any time.

Those tests are so bogus it takes little courage for a candidate to refuse to complete the “Political Courage Test.” They publicly laugh at such tests. “HA” they laugh, right at people’s faces.

  6. I’m so glad to have found your site. I’m heartened by your reports and comments.
Question for you, does your county dem party supply you with voter registration materials?
Forms, a banner, a voter reg guide and signs.
I am writing my county dem party to ask that all chartered clubs in my state be provided with such tools.
