At Least Thirteen Conference Committees Meeting Today in Capitol

Get ready for two hectic days in Pierre. As of 8:30 Central this morning, the Legislature has appointed thirteen conference committees to reconcile differences between the House and Senate on legislation, and more conference committees (like the fearless six legislators who will duke it out over Senate Bill 140, the anti-transgender anti-SDHSAA power play) remain to be appointed.

Below is the list of posted conference committee meetings, which begin with HB 1190, a possibly $2-million appropriation for community-based provider workforce development, at 9:30 Central in Room 412 at the Capitol. Per Joint Rule 8-2, these meetings are open to the public. I’ll speculate that the hottest ticket will be the conference on SB 1, the road funding bill and speed limit increase, at high noon in Room 414.

Update 14:10 CST: New tables, with minutes of some meetings, straight from LRC. We’re up to 24 conference committees.

I sure hope HB 1140 passes. It would be even better if those penalties were enhanced even more. A woman is statistically safer in a room full of drunk men than in her own home with her male spouse or boyfriend.

SB 95 limits the criminality of human trafficking only to those 16 and older? That’s nuts! The sick perverts that pay to rape, like victims down to even pre-pubescent children. Child labor is also popular. I really hope I’m misunderstanding the bill.

Thanks for the chart Cory. It is easy to follow and find the text of the bill.

Obama is playing hardball now. We shall see how the state of South Dakota handles the Medicaid that will come due this summer and what will happen with the coffers in Pierre. While the capitulation will be fun to see, it will be even more gratifying to see those working poor finally get the healthcare they desperately need. Ahoy Daugaard and crew, prepare for your leaky ship to take on more water or take care of your people. http://www.nationaljournal.com/health-care/is-the-obama-administration-playing-hardball-on-health-care-20150311

matt, record number of emergencies too?

jerry-florida wants a billion dollars; but doesn’t want to expand medicaid. as the 5 year olds are saying right now, and as rachel madow is mimmicks the 47 republican “5 year old traitors”- aauuhu (short u pronunciation on the last u)!

doesn’t help the 30-90 dead south dakotans who couldn’t get insurance last year :(

30-90 dead South Dakotan’s are what Daugaard and the rest his cabal call collateral damage. They feel the blood on their hands is worth it because they stopped the tide of Obama for a few more months in their game. I remember when President Bush came up with the unfunded mandate of Medicare Advantage plans. Geesh, they were an ugly dog that would not hunt. Democrats helped Republicans for the common good of our seniors to make sure this would work while the republican was in control of everything. There is no joint efforts now to help the citizens find their way anymore. The hunger games the republican plays are going to haunt our country for some time.
